During the past few days, including the moment at the lake, I have been enjoying myself with kisses from Jack. He knew I wasnât ready for more, but he never let a chance, of getting close to me, go to waste.
Of course, I had felt his manhood being erect every time we were entangling our tongues, and he had been growling every time we had to depart from each other, but he was always a gentleman about it and never gave me the feeling that I was disappointing him.
Furthermore, Dennis had been working on the packâs perimeter and safety, so much so that I hadnât seen him much these days. Besides yesterday that is, as I saw him talking to someone on the phone, and as soon as he saw me, he had smiled, but turned himself around to keep his conversation private. I thought it was strange to see him using a phone, I mean, within the pack, everyone could communicate telepathically, right? But as I was still adjusting to all things pack related, I didnât want to burst through any rule and ask about it.
It was Saturday now, and tonight was going to be Vicâs dinner party.
Vic had explained to me, why she wanted this party to happen, and it was really frightening me to say the least, as Jack was going to announce to the pack that I was going to be their Luna. It wasnât going to be an official ceremony, as that would come later. But as the whole pack was going to be here, it was a little overwhelming to know that I had to stand right in front of them!
âAnd⌠done!â She said after checking me over one last time, while standing behind me looking at my reflection through the mirror.
Before we went downstairs, to join in with the rest of the pack, Vic had taught me a little more rules of pack etiquette, and I tried to memorise them all, while walking towards the kitchen. Once there, the pack had prepared food for a whole orphanage, where potatoes, vegetables and fruit had been either cooked or sliced up, and where two complete boars were being roasted outside on a spit!
I donât know how many people were coming over, but it looked like the food was meant for at least two hundred people! But when I followed Vic outside, with a bowl filled with fries for the children, the whole garden behind the pack house was filled with over at least five hundred people, who brought their own bowls of food as well!
Even Bertha came in with Erol, together with a massive red velvet cake with strawberries on top. Erol had said that Bertha had made him bake one, and smiled because of it. I didnât really understand what he meant by his expression, but he just continued to walk to the tables outside, and put the cake right in the middle of one.
It was a great turn out and I had gotten embarrassed with my own presence. Everywhere I looked, people were looking at me, as if I was their most prized possession.
Their smiles and cheers of joy, filled the air, as Vic took the bowl of fries from me, and guided me to a chair that was right next to Jackâs. Jack was completely relaxed and was playing with some children, facing away from us. And when he saw me and Vic, he took the bowl of fries from her, and cheered with the children. âHere you go little cubs, eat up!â He gleamed and gave them the bowl.
The children put the bowl on the ground, and sat around it, snatching as much fries as they could and stuffed their bellies full. I laughed at their antics, and also towards Jack, as I hadnât seen this side of him before. And for a moment I was caught up in their emotions, forgetting all the stares that all the other people had thrown me.
But as soon as I realized that, I started to blush again. Jack noticed my change of behaviour and took my hands. âDonât worry, sweetheart. They will love you.â He said and I smiled.
He stood up in front of the table, and took me with him. He growled lowly but loud, and as the sound travelled over the tables, everyone went silent and looked in his direction.
âI know this dinner is of short notice.â He started. âBut you all know Vic. If she has a party on her mind, then a party will happen!â He boomed and everyone started to laugh. âBut this is no ordinary party.â He then said and looked at me. âAfter some long, long years, I have found my mate, your Luna!â He yelled and everyone stood up and cheered and clapped.
They now all looked into my direction, and I wanted to crawl inside myself. The red on my cheeks couldnât become brighter, but as I looked at all those happy people, as they congratulated us with our coming together, I got a different feeling as well. A proud feeling, of soon becoming one of them.
After a few minutes, the cheers had become lesser, and we could actually start eating our dinner. As tradition calls it, Jack had to cut the first piece of meat from the roasted boar, and gave me a juicy piece to taste first. Everyone looked in my direction again, waiting for us to take our first bites, before they started eating as well.
Eventually I felt at ease, while talking with his pack members as they came walking by. They congratulated me, and told me that they were happy to finally have a Luna. A woman even said that she was happy that I could soften their Alpha a little, at which she had gotten growls from Jack in response, but she then just laughed it off and went to sit at her seat again.
His growl hadnât been an angry one, thatâs why the woman wasnât frightened by it, but it was one to tell that she was on the verge of being inappropriate towards my status.
All these little pack rules are still new to me, but I tried my best to act as a Luna should be. I even had some small talk with a few couples, while continuing to eat my meal, until I realised that I was missing someone. âIsnât Dennis eating with us?â I asked Jack. âOr did you throw him out of the pack?â I slightly chuckled.
âNo, he is the one that kept you from getting raped, so because of that he is still my Beta, he should have been here.â He whispered back and I nodded in response.
Dennis has indeed prevented that from happening, but ever since we had that little talk, and I thought that everything was alright, he should be here, right? Maybe he was still busy with pack duties? Jack was looking around, checking to see where he could be.
âOh, Iâm right here!â He suddenly yelled behind us. âI wouldnât want to miss it for the world, that our Alpha is showing off his Luna!â He said, faking a smile.
I hadnât seen him for nearly three days, besides that one time when he made that call, and saw that his face had been healed completely now. He didnât even had the casts around his feet anymore, and was actually walking. If it werenât for his odd behaviour I would have admired the speed at which he had been healing, but now I was just waiting to see what he was going to do.
The Beta is the right hand of the Alpha, and as such, he pulled the still empty chair on the right of Jack, and sat himself down. Then, he took a big piece of meat from the stack in front of us, and started to eat from it. And all the while he was chewing, he kept looking towards me.
I donât know what he is trying to do, and I donât know why he has changed from a caring creature that sacrificed himself for someone he barely knew, to this sarcastic, menacing man that he looks to be right now, but I donât like this kind of attitude.
âBecause,â He said, after swallowing his first bite. âwho wouldnât want to have the daughter of the gracious Damien Deveraux, as their own Luna!â He shouted, for all of the pack to hear, and my heart stopped.
