Chapter 14

Joana didn’t need any more explaining to understand why Marylin had chosen John. She missed her human life because she had a husband whom she was happy with; and it must have killed her when she found out that she would have to leave her husband and her family, and live as a lonely vampire for the rest of her life.

Dana, upon reading her thoughts, said to her.

“Marylin was never lonely here. She had me, Derick, Edmund and Hillary.”

“I know she did, but you can’t replace the happiness you will feel when you have a family with that of being in a coven. You probably didn’t know what she had to go through, she had to leave everything she had behind to come and live in a strange world. The same thing you wanted me to do. But it’s never easy to make those kinds of decisions, to leave your loved ones behind. It’s like you’re dying, and you make them think you are dead, but you’re still alive, but you know you can never see them again.”

“It’s one of the sacrifices one has to make for immortality.”

“But what’s the sake of it when you don’t have happiness?”

“That’s enough!” Dana said, raising her voice. “You don’t have to keep trying to convince me about your reasons for wanting to leave. I have already said you can go and I even offered to help you still.”

She turned her head to Derick, who sat there the whole time, not saying a word.

“Tomorrow, she will resume physical training with you. Let me know of the activity you decide to do before you carry it out on her.”

“Yes ma’am,” Derick said.

She turned back to Joana.

“We are done for today; I want you to ponder on everything I have said and figure out if you can pick anything from it that will help you in your search for the supreme council. If you have any questions, I’ll be in my room.”

She unfolded her wings and jetted off.

“Is there something bothering her?” Joana asked Derick.

“Yes, it’s you.”

“Me? What did I do?”

“Your refusal to stay reminds her of the time Marylin did the same to her before she left to join the human world finally. Dana was the only offspring of a pureblood vampire, she never lived a human life and never had any family surrounding her, except her father who was a tyrant. She never knew what love meant until she met Marylin in those caves. When I joined the coven, I thought they were real sisters because of the way they bonded so well. It broke Dana’s heart when Marylin announced her decision to leave. She felt betrayed, we all did, but since we all loved her, we decided to let her go if she thought that was what would make her happy, since it did, we were all fine with having to wait until she came as you again, until you said you’re leaving too.

Joana felt bad for Dana, she now understood why she was angry. The same way she complained about Dana wanting her to leave her family, Dana also had something to complain about. Her only family, Marylin left her before and is leaving her again.

After leaving the study room, she went to Dana’s room to see if she would find her. She wasn’t there. Where could she possibly be? She walked round the castle in a bid to look for her, she couldn’t find her anywhere. She decided to go back to the study room to see if Derick would still be there. Thankfully, he was.

“Hey, I’m looking for Dana, she’s not in her room. Do you have any idea where she is?”

“Have you checked Marylin’s room?”

“Marylin’s room is still here?”

“Of course, silly, it’s a big castle where only five people live, there are empty rooms everywhere.”

“Ok. So where is Marylin’s room?”

“It’s upstairs right above this floor, the third room towards the left side of the halls.”

“Ok, thank you.”

Joana flew upstairs and went in the direction that Derick had described. She entered into the room and met Dana sitting on the bed, reading a book. Atop of it, boldly written, ‘DIARY.’
