What Separates Me and You -
Chapter 431 We'll Both Suffer
Josephine waited for a long time. Suddenly, it began to drizzle. The raindrops scattered and sparkled under the streetlight.
Josephine gazed at the sky. The raindrops fell on her face and her hair. In her daze, she seemed to see the teenager again beneath the moonlit sky. He smiled at her dotingly.
"Alex," she mumbled and extended her arms. "Are you here to bring me home?"
The teenager did not reply. He appeared translucent under the moonlight. It was as though he would vanish at any second.
Just like in the dream, Josephine reached out to him. Once again, her fingers passed through his figure.
Tears glistened in her eyes, mixing with the raindrops running down her cheeks.
"No one wants me anymore," she said between sobs.
Josephine looked directly at the figure in front of her. She was afraid to blink because she thought he might disappear if she did.
The drizzle turned into a downpour. She was completely drenched. Raindrops, mixed with her tears, streamed down her face.
Out of the blue, she was blinded by a jarring white light. She lifted an arm to shield her eyes. When her eyes had adjusted to the brightness, she lowered her arm. "Alex" was gone. She panicked.
Josephine quickly surveyed her surroundings. She found nothing except a car parked by the roadside. A man exited the vehicle and approached her.
She tilted her head to look at the tall man. Even then, it was hard to see his face in the night. He squatted in front of her and looked into her eyes. "Are you done?"
Lewis was indifferent to her suffering. His tone was as icy as the winter weather. Tears flowed down her face. She whimpered, "You liar."
"What did you say?" His face twitched a little.
"Liar. You told me you would bring me home."
He pursed his lips and said nothing. The rain continued to pelt on their bodies. She wiped away her tears and grabbed his sleeve. "Why didn't you bring me home?"
Lewis looked at her hand. The raindrops slid down his jaw and disappeared onto the ground. He told her, "You haven't fully recovered yet."
"You're lying! I've recovered. Look, I'm not even coughing anymore!"
He stared at her. "Let's go home."
"No! That's not my home! I want to return to my real home!"
He suddenly stood up and grabbed her by the wrist. "Follow me."
"I don't want to! Let me go!" She kicked the ground. She naively thought he would give in if she were persistent enough.
Instead of letting go, he dragged her into the car.
"Lewis Alvarez, you're a bad guy! I hate you! I don't want to see you anymore!"
Josephine continued to cry. She was no match for Lewis. He forced her into the car. Lewis buckled her seatbelt and closed the door before taking the driver's seat.
She tugged at the seatbelt but didn't know how to unfasten it.
Josephine felt sad. She cried because her family abandoned her, and Lewis bullied her.
Lewis ignored her cries and drove back to Styx Mansion.
Upon arrival, he forcefully removed her from the car and took her to the bedroom.
Josephine couldn't free herself, so she spitefully bit his arm. That finally stopped him in his tracks. She returned his glare to show her anger. But she appeared innocent and pitiful with her swollen, teary eyes and timid look.
He pinched her chin, and she gasped in pain. He hissed, "How dare you bite me again?"
She was confused by his remark. That was clearly her first time biting him. What did he mean by "again"?
He pulled her into the bathroom and locked the door from the inside. "Take everything off."
She grew angrier by the second and placed her hands on her waist to convey her anger. "No!"
He repeated without expression, "I'll say it one more time-take everything off."
"You're annoying! I'm not playing with you!" Puffing, she fumbled around to unlock the door but failed. When she went at it again, the man pulled her from behind. She stumbled into his arms after she slipped on the wet floor.
"Who do you want to play with?" He snickered above her and pinched her chin. He forced her to look at him. "Alex?"
She blurted out, "Of course! I ..."
He tightened his grip on her chin, and she yelped in pain. He stared into her eyes and warned her, "I do not want to hear you mention his name." She glowered at him but couldn't retort because he grabbed her jaw. His eyes glimmered dangerously. Without warning, he suddenly let go of her. She fell hard onto the floor. Josephine rubbed her bottom and protested, "You're horrible! I'll make Dad fire you! And I don't want to see you anymore!" He squatted at her eye level and smirked. "Your dad?"
"Yes! I'll get Dad to fire you!"
"You won't have the chance to do that."
She was taken aback. "Why?"
"Because your father is dead."
Josephine stood frozen. Her eyes widened, and her mouth hung open. She was at a loss for words. Finally, she said tremblingly, "Y-You are lying." "Why would I? What good is that?"
"You ..." Josephine panicked. She tried to say something but ended up shaking her head instead. "You're lying. I don't trust you. You're a big fat liar!" He lifted her chin. "Oh? Why didn't they visit you, then?"
"They They went on a business trip."
...
"Hah! Didn't you call them? You can reach them if they're on a business trip, right? Josephine, you can act crazy if you like. But you shouldn't cross a line. I will repeat for one last time do not mention Alex before me, or I might make him vanish for good."
The fury and frustration in her eyes gave way to disbelief and, finally, fear.
She feared that her parents were dead.
She feared that she'd never see Alex again.
More than anything, she feared the man in front of her.
She seemed to realize that he wasn't her bodyguard. He was a villain.
Lewis noticed the change in her look and laughed. "Isn't it great to listen to my words for once?"
He brushed his fingertips against her lips with a threatening air. "If you push my buttons, we'll both suffer."
