What Separates Me and You
Chapter 471 Does He Want Both?

After some thinking, Lewis blurted out, "I'll try my best."

He did not overcommit. Still, Sierra found his rational answer more reassuring than a confident yes. Based on her past experiences, the more easily he agreed to something, the more likely he'd go back on his word.

A promise that he had carefully mulled over was one that he would keep.

Joy reappeared on her face, even though she looked more frightening when she smiled than when she was not.

Josephine overheard their conversation outside the room. She smirked and quietly left the hospital.

At first, she had wanted to head to the filming set after bidding goodbye to Avery. Somehow, she ended up overhearing Sierra's two requests at the hospital.

Once again, she witnessed Lewis' unconditional love for Sierra. He would say yes to anything Sierra wanted. Even though she had been disfigured, she still held an important place in his heart.

"If that was the case, why did Lewis force me to stay by his side?" Josephine wondered.

Was it greed that drove him to want her and Sierra?

Josephine had no answer to that. When she left the hospital, the sun was hidden behind the clouds. The sky looked dreary, like it was going to rain

soon.

She went into the car. The two bodyguards seated in front drove her around.

She found Seth's contact in her WhatsApp and clicked into their conversation. He had not sent any message. His silence made her doubt his promise to leave with her.

As she tightened her grip on her phone, a thought occurred to her. She almost wanted to leave this place by herself.

Still, she dared not bet on the chance of success. If she were caught in the process, it would be impossible for her to plot her next escape.

Sighing, she tucked away her phone and temporarily dismissed her desire to leave.

Back at the filming set, everyone was present except for Yona. Nicolas immediately approached Josephine and asked, "Where's she?" Josephine scanned the area and frowned. "Is she not here yet?"

"I wouldn't have asked you if she were here. What are you doing? You can't even get her to show up!"

"She dropped by in the morning, but everyone was off work at that time. I bet she was impatient from the waiting and went home."

Nicolas almost laughed at the absurdity of it. He said crossly, "It's tough enough to handle Yona. Now, there's you. Are you guys fighting? Is that why she is absent to spite you?"

Josephine remarked, "Isn't that what she's after when she made me her assistant?"

She successfully shut him up. Indeed, Yona had made her the assistant just to land her in trouble. Nicolas agreed to the arrangement and was therefore responsible. It wasn't Josephine's fault at all.

Feeling even more irritated, he put his hands on his waist and paced the area. Then, he bellowed, "I'm not filming today! Do whatever you like! Fuck this! This isn't even my company. I don't fucking owe anything to anyone!"

He kicked the trashcan beside him and left in a car. Those who were left behind at the set exchanged looks.

"What do we do? Are we not filming today?" someone asked blankly.

"He's gone. We can't get any filming done." A few others left the set. After that, everyone started trickling out.

Only Wendy remained at the set. She went up to comfort Josephine, "Mr. Lager is always hot-tempered. Please don't take it personally. This isn't his first outburst."

Josephine smiled. "I won't take it personally. Indeed, I didn't do my job well. He has all the right to be angry at me."

"What does that have to do with you? You're new here. Yona has always been like this. Every few days, she'd anger Mr. Lager so much that he'd throw up his hands."

Wendy looked around her. When she confirmed that most had left, she whispered, "Mr. Lager had wanted to switch to another team, but Mr. Allen wouldn't agree to it. Not only that, Mr. Allen was dead set on keeping Yona. Everyone suspects that she's involved with Mr. Allen."

"Huh?" Josephine was surprised to hear the gossip.

"Keep this between us. I heard the gossip from someone else. It might not be true. Didn't Chaiman Alvarez show up yesterday? I think it's more likely that Yona has connections with Chairman Alvarez."

Lewis' presence at the filming set came as a shock. It didn't make sense for him to be there. His relationship with Yona was the only reasonable explanation for that.

Josephine pursed her lips and said nothing.

"Sigh. There's nothing much to do in the afternoon. Josephine, do you want to have fun or go home?"

Josephine shook her head after a short silence. "I don't know. I don't feel like going home."

"If so, do you want to go shopping with me? I just got my pay. I'll buy you coffee!"

Josephine initially wanted to visit the hospital. However, she had just left the hospital earlier. She ended up going shopping with Wendy.

The last time she went shopping was ages ago. She probably went shopping at Elysium a year ago. She also went shopping before she married Lewis and before he had a new girlfriend.

Back at the time, Lewis would bring her around and have fun whenever he was free. They'd enjoy the movies, good food, and theme parks. He knew more places than she did.

Like a map, he'd locate the best restaurant for whatever she craved. He was able to lead her to any restaurant in the city, even if it was a desolate alley.

That was the only time she felt happiness and hope when she was living under the roof of others. She loved him deeply because of that. Even now, she couldn't find a reason to hate him.

She followed Wendy around mindlessly. The mall was not too far-just right across the street.

When they were at the mall, Wendy brought her to get coffee before they strolled around aimlessly. After half a day of walking, Wendy checked out lots of clothes but bought nothing.

Josephine was a little tired and asked, "Wendy, what do you plan to buy?"

"I'm not buying anything. I'm just window shopping. I can't afford anything in this mall, other than the coffee and food."

"That can't be true!" Josephine glanced at her in shock.

Wendy counted with her fingers. "My monthly base pay is around 5,000 dollars. Even with the commission and bonus, it would add up to 10,000 dollars at most."

She broke everything down. "Rent costs me 3,000. I spend 2,000 on meals. I can limit my transport expenses to 300 if I don't get cabs. Adding on other expenses, I can easily spend 6,000."

"Look at the clothes here. The cheapest one costs hundreds. Do you think I have the money to buy anything?"

Josephine became increasingly bewildered. She couldn't fathom that a monthly pay of 10,000 dollars wasn't sufficient for a comfortable life.

When she was discussing divorce with Lewis, he cut off her access to his credit cards. It was the one time she realized the difficulty of surviving in a city, but that difficult period didn't last very long.

After that episode, she did not spend much at all. She had no clue how much pay was needed to survive in a city.

But now she knew.

It was funny that she had been thinking of escaping the city but never considered her means of living after the escape.
