Miranda noticed that there was a lone blazer hanging deparately on its own hanger next to the coat rack. It was black and appeared so formal it looked slightly rigid.

Although Paul usually dressed up in suits, none of his clothes looked as old–fashioned as this one

Miranda walked in and stopped by the dining table. On the table were three dishes, all still steaming hot.

Paul said, “I learned how to cook pork ribs and stuffed bell peppers from you, while the sautéed greens! learned from a video. As for the tomato stew, that’s something I already knew how to make

He even explained how he learned each dish clearly.

Miranda couldn’t help but laugh. “Did I ever teach you? Why don’t I remember?”

“No, but I learned by watching you.”

As he spoke, Paul had already placed two plates on the table. “Sit,” he said before placing the utensils on

the table.

“Thank you.” Miranda picked up a piece of pork rib and put it in her mouth. Paul looked at her with an expectant gaze, yet he pretended to be calm.

“This taste. How should I put it?”

As she spoke, Miranda noticed that Paul instinctively straightened his back, and his expression grew

more serious.

She continued, “It’s delicious! It tastes even better than how I make it!”

Paul visibly relaxed, and a smile returned on his face. “How could my cooking compare to yours?”

“Dr. Jefferson, don’t be so modest!” Miranda wasn’t just giving false praise or being polite. The taste was really excellent.

“You learned all this just by watching and helping out?” she asked.

Paul answered, “I took note of the steps.”

It could only be said that smart people could learn anything quickly and were good at whatever they did.

Both the stuffed bell peppers and sautéed greens turned out great as well. Everything was delicious.

*Really?” Even Paul, a dignified professor, also had moments of insecurity.

Miranda chuckled. “No, I’m lying.”

Paul was taken aback. “What?”

“I’m joking, it tastes delicious”

Paul rolled his eyes and didn’t respond.

After they finished eating, Miranda was about to clear the dishes when he stopped her sternly. “You go and sit on the couch. You can play on your phone or watch television. I’ll clean up the kitchen myself.”

She blinked. ‘Didn’t we do all this together when you were at my place?”

Paul answered, “You said that it was your place. Now we’re at my place, so you listen to me.”

What kind of logic was this?

Miranda retorted. “Then next time you’re at my place, I won’t let you do anything either.”

Hearing her retort, Paul couldn’t help but stifle a smile. He sat down instead of rushing to clean up and said, “Do you know why a research group needs a team leader?”

She was puzzled. What did that have to do with what they were talking about now?

Paul continued, “Why does one person get to be the team leader although everyone is working on the same project, doing the same tasks, and getting the same pay? Sometimes, that leader might not even do as much work as the other team members?”

Miranda questioned, “Why is that, then?”

“Because every team needs a mainstay, and every research group needs a leader. This person doesn’t need to do the same work as everyone else. Their job is to take the wheel at critical moments. Like a Crew on a ship, the sailors do the labor while the captain steers the ship.”

Miranda raised an eyebrow. “So… I’m the captain?”

Paul nodded. “That’s right. As a sailor, I’m going to get to work!”

With that, he got up and headed straight to the kitchen

Miranda was stunned for a couple of seconds before bursting into laughter. She shouted toward the kitchen, “Dr. Jefferson, you’re way too modest! How could I possibly be your captain? You’re the captain, and I should be the one following your orders!”

“Alright, I order you to not do any work right now. Next time when we eat at your place, you can’t stop me from doing the work either.” Paul’s voice calmly drifted from the kitchen.

She felt perplexed. How did Paul always manage to turn the logic in his favor?
