When Love Comes Late -
Chapter 1797
Stella, not wanting to dredge up past horrors, shook her head and smiled through her tears.
“No, it’s just that everything feels so perfect now.
I’m truly happy.
”
He tenderly ki*sed her forehead, his voice a soothing balm.
“Well, you’d better start getting used to it.
Our days ahead will be filled with even more happiness.
”
His comforting presence reassured her, and she nodded, her voice hopeful.
“If only I could find my biological mother, our wedding would be complete.
”
Grasping her hand with conviction, Matthew assured her, “We will find her, don’t worry.
We’ll make everything perfect.
”
The next morning, while Stella and Matthew were having breakfast, Stella’s phone rang.
It was Bella.
As she answered, her smile faded, and her expression hardened.
Matthew, unaware of the conversation’s details, noticed the change in her demeanor.
After Stella ended the call, he asked with concern, “What’s wrong?”
Stella set her phone aside and explained, “Bella said she’s not feeling well and won’t be able to make it to Prosperity Group today.
”
Noticing Stella’s concerned frown, Matthew thought she was worried about Bella.
He suggested, “Are you worried about her? We could visit her now if it would help.
”
Stella shook her head.
“No, it’s not that.
Bella mentioned that Elizabeth will be going to Prosperity Group in her place.
”
Stella had never been comfortable around Elizabeth, and the prospect of having to work closely with her was unsettling.
Matthew was also surprised by Bella’s decision but tried to reassure Stella, “Bella must have good reasons for her choice.
Don’t worry.
Elizabeth can’t harm you at Prosperity Group.
Just relax.
”
Though still troubled, Stella knew she had no say in the matter since it was Bella’s decision.
“I just hope Elizabeth doesn’t cause any trouble.
” Stella sighed with a sense of resignation.
After breakfast, they drove to the company.
As soon as they stepped out of the car, they encountered Elizabeth.
“Good morning, Mr.
Clark.
What a coincidence!” Elizabeth greeted Matthew with excessive warmth, a stark contrast to her usual attitude when talking to Stella.
Casting a casual glance at Stella as if she had only just noticed her, Elizabeth said dismissively, “Oh, nice to see you here, Stella.
”
Elizabeth’s gaze dropped, and she was visibly stunned upon noticing the ring on Stella’s finger.
She recalled that Stella hadn’t been wearing a ring the last time they met, but now there was a beautifully designed diamond ring adorning her hand.
Jealousy surged within Elizabeth as she bit her lip, unable to look away from the sparkling diamond.
She found herself daydreaming that one day Matthew might slip a similar ring onto her finger.
Snapping back to reality, Elizabeth forced herself to divert her gaze.
