When Love Comes Late
Chapter 2268

But destiny had dealt her a heavy blow.

As Stella mused about her circumstances, she failed to realize that tears were already falling down her face.

And the more she cried, the more aggrieved she felt.

She was angry and frustrated, with no one to vent to or even confide in.

Her thoughts drifted over to Miley.

It would be nice if she could come over and keep her company.

But when Stella opened her social media, she saw the photos Miley had posted.

Miley was beaming at the camera, and behind her was a table laid out in a romantic, candlelit dinner.

On the other side of the frame was Neville, who was gazing at her with a doting smile.

Stella couldn’t bring herself to intrude upon her friend’s happiness, especially when their situations were a direct contrast to each other.

With no one else to talk to, Stella slumped on the floor in the living room and proceeded to drown her sorrows in alcohol.

At first, she contemplated how to handle her relationship with Matthew.

What could she do to help him regain his memories as quickly as possible?

In time, her thoughts went to Lindsay.

Now that Lindsay had lost the ability to walk because of saving Matthew, was there still a chance that Matthew and she could get back together? Would things never return to the way it had been?

Stella’s mind raced with similar, miserable thoughts.

Before she knew it, she had emptied several bottles of wine.

She didn’t stop drinking until her head felt heavy, and her vision blurred.

Ultimately, she let the darkness take her and passed out on the coffee table.

While all this was happening, a black Rolls-Royce was parked in front of the gates of the Prosper Bay villa.

Matthew sat behind the wheel, staring at the brightly lit villa.

He couldn’t stop thinking about all the things Stella had said back at the restaurant.

He had initially planned to return to the office, but his thoughts were running out of control.

Thinking that a drive would calm his tumultuous emotions, Matthew cruised through the roads aimlessly until, somehow, he ended up at Prosper Bay.

Matthew leaned back in the driver’s seat, feeling an unexpected sense of peace come over him just by being near the villa.

He intended to leave once the lights went out, but they continued to burn bright for hours.

He glanced at his watch.

It was nearly midnight.

Feeling a spike of anxiety, Matthew jumped out of the car and rushed into the villa.

Something might have happened to Stella.

He stepped into the living room and was instantly greeted by the sight of Stella slumped over the table, with empty bottles littered around her.

Her face was flushed, and she was muttering something in broken, almost incoherent phrases.

“Matthew… You bully! All you do is break my heart… I hate… Matthew…” She suddenly sat up and vigorously shook her head.

“No, no, no… I love Matthew…”

No sooner had she spoken the last three words than she broke down crying again.

She slumped back on the table and buried her head in her arms as she wept.

Matthew felt something stir inside his heart as he watched her.

The next thing he knew, he was walking over and crouching in front of her.

“Stella? Hey, wake up.”
