Frank stood there, frozen in place, his face a mask hiding the turmoil of nerves beneath. His back was slick with sweat, his palms clammy. He could see his own panicked reflection mirrored in Rebecca White's clear eyes. As their gazes locked, both were momentarily startled.

Frank swallowed hard, his Adam's apple bobbing visibly. Rebecca's gaze flickered before she quickly looked away.

"Ms. White, please follow my finger with your eyes," the doctor's timely intervention broke the awkwardness of the moment.

"Keep following my finger... there, very good..." After a brief check-up, the doctor announced, "The surgery was a success. A nurse will come by shortly to take you for some tests. If everything checks out, you can be discharged." "Thank you, doctor."

"You're welcome. I'll also prescribe some medication for you to take home. Make sure to follow the instructions I'll note down in your discharge summary." "I will."

After the doctor left, a nurse came to escort Rebecca for her tests, with Sherilyn accompanying her throughout. Frank, of course, followed quietly behind.

Upon returning to the room after the tests, Rebecca glanced back, noticing Frank hadn't come in.

She looked up at Sherilyn. "Did Mr. Frank leave?"

"No," Sherilyn shook her head. "He's outside. He wanted to review the medications the doctor prescribed and discuss some details about your follow-up appointments."

Sherilyn was just stating facts,

without any embellishment. In her eyes, Frank seemed a bit 'lost', but

she believed that matters of the heart were best left to those

involved. As an observer, she felt it wasn't her place to interfere

"Oh."

Rebecca nodded, deep in thought. "Sherilyn, could you ask Mr. Frank to come in? There are some things I need to discuss with him."

"Of course." Sherilyn got up, "Have a good talk. I'll wait outside."

Soon after, Frank entered the room, holding a bag of medications for Rebecca. He placed the bag on the table and cleared his throat. "These are your medications. The instructions are on each box." "I got it." Rebecca nodded. "Thank you, Mr. Frank."

Frank's eyes flickered at her use of 'Mr. Frank', so formal, so distant. He felt a sinking feeling, a bad premonition.

Frowning slightly, he began, "Rebecca, are you still upset with me for hiding my identity?"

Rebecca looked at him steadily, countering his question with her own. "Why did you feel the need to hide your identity from me, Mr. Frank?"

Frank was at a loss for words.

Initially, he hadn't anticipated their

relationship would evolve to this stage. He was still with Caroline when they first met. He intervened because she was James's biological mother, unable to stand by as Eddy Jones mistreated her. Thus, he chose to remain silent around her, to avoid entangling their lives further.

But then, he and Caroline broke up. The thought of being with Rebecca began to take root... He was bound to marry someday, so why not James's mother? It would give James a complete family. Moreover, Rebecca had suffered so much because of him over the years. He

hoped to protect her from now on, to

make up for the hardships she

endured...

As Frank pondered these thoughts, he struggled with how to explain. How could he tell Rebecca about their child? A child conceived from a night he'd 'wronged' her?
