Whispers Turn to Whimpers: Could He Ever Change? -
Chapter 821
"Family, my foot!" Malvina exclaimed, looking at her son as if he'd just told the most absurd joke she'd ever heard. "You consider her family? Did that girl ever see you as family? When you were in that car accident and needed a liver transplant, she completely ignored you!" "Shouldn't she have ignored me?" Galen couldn't wrap his head around his mother's reasoning. "I have both parents and a sister. You're trying to force Sherilyn to donate her liver to me; does that mean you don't see me as family either?" "You!!" Malvina was left speechless, caught off guard.
"That's not, it's not..."
"Not what?" Galen shook his head, a rueful smile playing on his lips. "You just think Sherilyn is easy to manipulate!"
"Galen!" Malvina's voice broke as she sobbed, "Am I not doing this for our family? I just want to protect everyone in this household!"
Galen closed his eyes, sighing in resignation. It was futile to argue. His mother had always been self-centered; if she could be reasoned with, it would've happened long ago.
"Let's not talk about this anymore."
"Why should we stop talking about it?" Malvina hadn't forgotten the main issue. "I'm telling you, you need to drop this idea of donating your bone marrow! I do not approve! Do you hear me?" This confrontation was bound to happen.
"Mom." Galen was ready, composed, "I'm an adult now. I have the right to make my own decisions without needing your consent."
"What do you mean?" Malvina was taken aback, a bit bewildered.
"It means..." Galen paused, then spoke slowly and clearly, "My decision to donate bone marrow won't change. And Sherilyn is my sister. I'll take care of her. That's a lifelong promise." "You!!" Malvina's eyes widened in shock; she couldn't believe this was her son speaking.
Having said his piece, Galen pointed towards the door, "I'm going to take a shower. If there's nothing else, mom, please leave."
As he spoke, he headed towards the walk-in closet.
"Galen!" Suddenly, Malvina grabbed his arm. "Please!"
When the tough approach failed, she tried a softer one. "Do you realize how dangerous donating bone marrow is? You've just had surgery
the car accident not long ago; your body can't handle it!"
"It'll be alright," Galen reassured her, explaining calmly, "The doctors are aware, which is why they
recommended waiting six monthset
after the surgery to schedule it These past few months, I've been taking medication and exercising to strengthen my body. It'll be fine..."
"How can it be fine?" Malvina couldn't relax. "Every surgery comes with risks..."
"Mom!" Galen raised his voice slightly, interrupting her, "Don't try to convince me. It's pointless. I'm not Yuna. I know what I'm doing, and I won't change my mind."
His resolve was unmistakable, leaving no room for negotiation. Malvina felt a fire burning inside her but was utterly powerless.
In the walk-in closet, Galen immediately called Sherilyn to inform her. "Sis, mom knows about the surgery. She checked my bank statements; there's no way to hide it now."
"I understand," Sherilyn replied, staying calm since they'd already discussed it.
"Sis," Galen continued, considering the situation with Yuna, "if mom tries to confront you, don't meet her alone."
"Okay," Sherilyn agreed, though she couldn't help but worry about potential complications. "Galen, I'm sorry to put you in this tough spot."
"Me? Not at all." Galen chuckled softly, "Don't worry about it. I'm not in a difficult position. Sis..."
He could sense her concerns and spoke gently "Sis, when you first came to our house as a kid, I wanted to keep you with us. But back then, was just a child myself... I'm sorry, sis. It took me so many years Your brother has grown up now, can protect you."
