Whispers Turn to Whimpers: Could He Ever Change? -
Chapter 855
The final preparations for the bone marrow transplant were all complete, and the surgery was scheduled for the day after tomorrow.
That night, Galen woke up, having metabolized most of the medication, and felt a boost in his spirits.
The next morning, Sherilyn and Galen met with Dr. Neil for one last discussion about the surgery. Having already reviewed all the details and considerations thoroughly, this meeting was more of a formality. In the end, they both signed the consent forms. As they left the doctor's office, Galen followed Sherilyn, saying, "I haven't seen Jenna in days. I miss that little munchkin..."
When they opened the door to the hospital room, they were greeted by Jenna's laughter.
"Stop it, Mr. Gilbert! That tickles!"
Gilbert had come to visit.
Sherilyn paused, surprised. Was he already up and about?
Hearing the door, Gilbert looked up and nodded at the siblings. "Just dropped by to see Jenna."
He had hurried over as soon as he was able, without taking much time to clean up, and his face was covered in stubble.
He had been tickling Jenna's soft cheeks with his stubble, making her giggle uncontrollably.
Sherilyn asked with a light smile, "Are you feeling better? Is it okay for you to be walking around?"
"No worries," Gilbert shook his head. "I don't really feel it anymore."
"Mr. Gilbert!"
Jenna seemed to understand and quickly grabbed hold of his sleeve, worried. "Are you sick?"
Gilbert chuckled softly, playfully nudging Jenna's nose. "Seeing Jenna makes all my ailments disappear."
"Really?"
"Really."
"Jenna," Sherilyn called out to her daughter, extending an arm. "Time to get up and eat something."
She then turned to Gilbert, "Have you eaten yet? Join us?"
Gilbert hesitated, his Adam's apple bobbing slightly. "Sure, that'd be nice."
"Yay! Mr. Gilbert, carry me!" Jenna beamed, reaching out for Gilbert.
"Hmph," Sherilyn feigned indignation. "So, you only love Mr. Gilbert now? Fine, let him carry you." She glanced at Galen. "Let's go have breakfast."

Given the gravity of a bone marrow transplant, it was essential to eat well and nourish the body.
Sherilyn served the soup, first to Jenna, then to Galen.
Then, she placed a bowl in front of Gilbert.
Gilbert was momentarily taken
aback.

He shook his head. "Leave it for Jenna..."
Sherilyn smiled gently. "Don't worry, she's got hers. This is mine... You need it more than I do. Go ahead."
It was her portion...
Gilbert looked at her, a mix of composure and restraint in his eyes, his voice slightly hoarse. "Alright, thanks." Bowing his head, the steam from the hot soup blurred his vision.
He knew Sherilyn was grateful to him...
But her gentleness, her thoughtfulness...
It made his heart race uncontrollably, stirring a tumult of indescribable emotions within him...
...
The day of the surgery arrived as scheduled..
Gilbert came early, and Jenna was already awake.
Her big eyes sparkled as she jumped into his arms. "Mr. Gilbert, you're here!"
"Of course, I had to come."
Gilbert hugged the soft little girl. "Today's a very important day for Jenna."
"Mr. Gilbert..." Jenna's voice was muffled against his shoulder.
"What's wrong?"
As he stroked her hair, guessing her concerns, he whispered, "Don't worry, Jenna. You'll go with the nurse close your eyes for a little

Jenna looked up at him, her big eyes blinking. "Will Mr. Gilbert wait for me outside?" "Absolutely."
Gilbert nodded without hesitation. "I promise to wait right outside."
