Whispers Turn to Whimpers: Could He Ever Change? -
Chapter 885
"Achoo!"
Back in the quaint Sunset Ridge Community, Sherilyn sneezed unexpectedly as she stepped out of the car.
"Mommy?"
"Sherilyn?"
Gilbert, holding Jenna, looked at her with identical expressions of concern.
"I'm fine," Sherilyn chuckled. It was just a sneeze, nothing to worry about, right?
"The weather's been so erratic lately, switching from warm to cold. I might have caught a chill."
She rummaged through her bag for a face mask, deciding to wear it just in case, to avoid passing anything to Jenna. Gilbert, still worried, furrowed his brow and advised, "You should take some medicine... do we have any at home?" "Yeah, we do," Sherilyn smiled reassuringly, nudging him gently, "Aren't you in a hurry? Don't just stand there, go on up." Once they were settled in their upstairs apartment, Sherilyn urged Gilbert, "It's nearly eleven, you should get going." His phone had been buzzing non-stop during the drive.
"Alright."
Before leaving, Gilbert reminded her, "Don't forget to take your medicine."
Sherilyn paused briefly, then smiled warmly at him, "I know."
After all, she knew to take care of herself.
With Gilbert gone, Sherilyn promptly found some medicine to take. Later in the afternoon, she had to head out for a promotional event for a new show. Feeling under the weather, Sherilyn wasn't very hungry and barely touched her lunch.
She reminded Jenna, "Be good at home and listen to Sophia, okay? Mommy will bring you a blueberry cake when I come back."
"Thank you, Mommy! Jenna will be good!"
"Bye-bye, Jenna."
"Bye, Mommy."
Heading out, Sherilyn felt a bit dizzy, likely a side effect of the medicine. To be safe, she didn't drive but took a cab to the event. Her phone buzzed with a message from Gilbert.
[Did you take your medicine?]
Sherilyn stared at the screen, feeling a pang of something akin to guilt. Did Caroline know how attentive he was?
After all, a man with a girlfriend shouldn't be showing such concern for another woman.
Closing her eyes for a moment, Sherilyn turned off her phone screen and slipped it back into her pocket without replying. The event venue was buzzing with activity.
"Sherilyn!"
Karol waved from the crowd, rushing over to link arms with her pointing towards a quieter spot, "The event doesn't start for a while. Let's
sit over there for a bit."
"Sure."
With no reason to refuse, Sherilyn nodded and let Karol lead her to a seat.
Karol brought up the recent gossip, curiously probing, "So, you and Mr. Harrison really broke up?"
"Yeah," Sherilyn glanced at her, confirming with a nod.
"That's... good, I guess?"
Sherilyn paused, puzzled.
She wasn't oblivious to Karol's interest in Gilbert; it was quite apparent.
Was Karol not even trying to hide it now?
"Uh... I didn't mean it like that!"
Realizing her slip, Karol hurriedly explained, "I mean, you both
vel
breaking up and him still coming out to clear the air for you... that's really considerate."
Sherilyn offered a polite smile, deciding not to call out Karol's facade. "It is."
"Yeah."
"And... I wonder who's been trying to smear your name."
At that, Sherilyn frowned slightly, shaking her head, "I'm not sure."
The matter was supposedly being handled by Nolan, as Gilbert had mentioned. But the security guard who had fled had yet to show himself.
AQUA
Karol paused, then sighed with a mix of sympathy and anger, "It's dreadful! If only we could catch whoever's behind it!"
"Is that so..."
