“Easy, try to relax. They don’t know about you yet. And the ones who do would never say anything. It is important for you to stay secret as long as possible.” Hawkins looked up to see Lance strolling towards them. He was looking at the kid with suspicion. “Look, I’m out of time. Alistair is coming to get you any day now. Don’t be alarmed.” He then took a small step backwards and took off running as Lance arrived at Kailee’s side.

“First off. We are anything but your weakness. The order is tough. But the four of us collectively as a group are just as strong. Secondly, I don’t understand. Why would the order be interested in you? What is it about you that would alarm them?” Grum studied her and watched her tense body. “You know something else… don’t you?”

“I don’t know what I am.” Kailee answered truthfully.

Grum chuckled. “But you know something else, huh?”

Yes, she did. She knew it was her grandmother that fought against Bane. And that her mother was a secret and hidden from the world in order to protect her existence. Likewise, Kailee has remained a secret to the world. She was also the one who was destined to face Bane again if he is revived. But these were things she couldn’t talk to them about yet. Not until she talks to Alistair. She needed to understand everything better.

“Kailee?” Lance asked with a frown.

“I’m sorry. I can’t tell you guys. At least not yet.” She looked at them both apologetically but neither one seemed happy about her response.

“If you know something, you need to tell us. We can plan better if we have more knowledge.” Grum said as he stared Kailee down.

Kailee shook her head. “Like I said. I’m sorry but I can’t tell you more now.” She didn’t need them completing the pieces of the puzzle without her. And she was certain that they would. They knew about the person who destroyed Bane before. She was going to wait and hear everything directly from Alistair first. She had made up her mind.

“Look, you guys have all been keeping secrets from me. And you are still keeping them now. I’m not doing this as payback but sometimes things have to remain a secret, right? The same reason you guys are keeping secrets from me. I will tell you guys soon, but not yet. I think this is fair.” Kailee folded her arms in front of her chest and stared Grum down.

“Alright kitten. I understand what you are saying. But let us know soon. We just want to help.” Grum finally gave up and gave her a weak smile. “But just so you know… you don’t have to worry about us. Don’t worry about such a thing. I’d like to think that we are all stronger as a whole together. And separating us will only make us weaker.”

“I agree with Grum. I think the five of us together are tough enough to take down anything.” Lance scooted closer to Kailee and nudged her gently.

Her eyes lit up when he mentioned the five of them. He was including her. It wasn’t just about them protecting her. He was also saying her power made them strong too, for once. She appreciated this more than he knew.

“Thank you.” Kailee smiled at both Lance and Grum. She had to agree on that point. If she was strong enough to fight Bane then the five of them together were strong enough to take on anything that may want to harm them.
