Who Is My Husband -
Scene 53
The man holding Kailee snarled at the man with dark unreadable eyes. “You are the one who needs to be careful…”
The crowd of people were hushed as they tried to listen in on the hostile conversation. And still none of the dragons had moved. Kailee glanced over to where Jane still had her nasty arms around her mates’ neck. If only she could she would incinerate her right there.
“FIRE! The wyverns are catching the grounds on fire!” Someone shouted running inside creating mass chaos.
People flooded towards the center of the room in fear of the fire breathers outside.
“Go. Run to the outside.” The man holding Kailee spoke to her as he turned his head slightly. Making sure to keep his eye on the man in front of him.
“I can’t just leave.” Kailee looked frantically up towards Trey. She couldn’t leave. There was something wrong with her family… there was no way they were betraying her. She trusted Trey. He wouldn’t do this to her. She trusted all of them.
Two more colossal men walked in from the entrance and up to either side of Kailee. The man pushed her back slightly. We will handle things here. Please Kailee… please go outside.”
This man knew her name. But still, how could she leave them.
“They are going to be fine. But you have to go. Now. Toma get her out of here.”
A third man darted to her from the side, lifting her body up and running outside with her.
“No WAIT!” Kailee screamed.
Once outside she could see the flames pooling over the haystacks and dried grass. As the man, Toma lowered her she heard a loud flapping sound. Then she watched as a winged creature with two legs lowered in front of them. It hovered there for a moment looking at them.
“Get her to the forest center. I need to go back inside and help Brock.” Toma guided Kailee forward. “I know you don’t know us and you don’t know what is going on but please trust us. He is going to take you to Alistair.”
Kailee shook her head adamantly refusing to leave. “I can’t leave. I have to help them. They need my help.”
“Trust me they are just fine. They don’t need your help. But you need ours right now. Have faith in us. Brock is your Uncle Alistair’s son. We are here to protect you.” He glanced backwards nervously. “I’m sorry. You need to leave now. I need to get back in there to help.” He pushed her gently backwards and soon she was being gripped by the claws of the wyvern. It gently cradled her in its feet and flew away quickly. The wind blew her hair backwards from their speed. She watched as the glowing fire grew further and further away.
She felt like a failure. She should have been there to help. She didn’t even know what was going on. She just knew it was like the guys were all frozen in place somehow. She thought back to Jane’s face. She was in on whatever was happening to them. That traitorous b***h. How dare she?
Who were those men that came to her aid? They are people connected to the forest but what were they doing there? Have they been watching her from a distance too? Or were they only there to take her away tonight? She looked down at the ground below her. Surprisingly she wasn’t afraid.
She watched as a familiar orange glow flew towards her from the forest they were flying over.
Kailee, are you okay? Sparks asked as he flew alongside them.
“I’m fine. But something was wrong with Trey and the others. It was like they couldn’t move. And the guy… the one who held me captive the day my parents were killed was there.”
So, you remember again… Sparks said sadly. That was a demon, Balor.
“That is the demon Leeta told me about before…” Kailee frowned and looked backwards with worry.
They’ll be fine. Do you remember anything odd? Any weird scent?
“Yes, there was something very sweet smelling in the air.” It was one of the things that stuck out to her was the sweet smell in the air.
“Yes, there was something very sweet smelling in the air.” It was one of the things that stuck out to her was the sweet smell in the air.
I thought so. That is a bombus candle. Something like that wouldn’t affect you but it paralyzes…
“I know who they are now. All of them. And I know about Trey being the prince.”
Well, then that is something that paralyzes dragons. Though something of that level wouldn’t be able to detain them long. Especially Trey. He is very powerful. I’d imagine he broke free earlier than the rest.
“What about Jane? It didn’t affect her, and she is a dragon.”
Then she is in on it. If it didn’t affect her then she took a suppressant so that it wouldn’t.
“Did something like that come from the order?” Kailee watched as Sparks eyed her.
Probably.
“Why was Balor after me?” Kailee couldn’t understand this.
Because… you are the dragon’s weakness. They were probably after leverage and you are it. Well at least that is what they think. After this meeting with Alistair they will never be able to get away with something like that again. It is time for you to learn who you are, Kailee. It is time for you to awaken.
“Honestly, I agree. I don’t ever want to be in a situation where I can’t help again. I knew they were stuck but I couldn’t do anything.” Kailee shivered slightly as the cool wind raised over her arms. Small goosebumps rose on her skin and she tried to wrap her arms around herself better in the wyverns claws.
You are quick witted Kailee. Most would not have figured out that something was wrong with them. But you knew. That is impressive.
Kailee smiled. “That is because I know them, Sparks. I believe in them and know them. And there is no way they would stand idly by like they were.”
I’m glad Kailee. I am glad you found a family like them.
“Me too Sparks… me too.”
Kailee watched the treetops through the light of the moon as sparks soft glow stayed by her side. She could see them approaching a clearing in the midst of all the trees. The moon reflected on a large lake and this is where the wyvern slowly made its descent. The wyvern lowered her onto the ground and easily released her from its grip. It took a few steps backwards and made a small roaring noise. But Kailee could understand him.
Sorry, my lady. You are safe now. The wyvern then flapped his wings and took off into the sky again. Leaving Kailee and Sparks by the lake.
She looked around and towards the forest edge. She had never been here before but oddly it felt familiar. It also felt like home.
“Kailee… finally.”
She looked up to see a muscular man walking to her. He had a kind smile on his face and he stopped just in front of her.
“I’m Alistair Kailee. I know you don’t really know me… but I am like an uncle to you. Your mother grew up as my little sister.” Alistair said with sad eyes as he thought about Meera. “It’s my fault you don’t know me. I had a fight with your mother when you were only a couple years old. And I was childish and I refused to see her…” His eyes watered up. “And I regret that decision every single day.” His voice cracked as a soft sob escaped his throat.
“It’s okay. I know my mother wouldn’t want you still feeling bad after all this time.” Kailee said softly.
He offered her a sad smile. “No, she wouldn’t. She wasn’t like that… I’m sorry your mother isn’t here. In her place, I will explain to you about yourself. And everything that you need to know.” He watched as Kailee slightly shivered in the cold. He walked up to her and placed his arm around her shoulder. “Kailee let’s get comfortable. There is a lot to explain. Do you want to come back with me to my pack? Or should we just set up a fire here?”
“Umm, I think I would rather not be around a lot of different people right now. I hope that is okay.” Kailee watched him smile and nod his head. She saw his eyes glaze over similar to how Trey’s eyes do when he is mind linking.
“I am having a couple of pack members bring out some blankets and to get a fire set up. I don’t want you chilled.” Alistair smiled down at her. He was finally meeting with his niece. She looked so much like Meera. It made him happy and hurt his heart at the same time.
He led her to the side of the lake where someone had just lit a fire and left a stack of blankets. Fireflies sparkled over the lake and green grass surrounding the area. The grass was slightly wet from the dew but that was drying up around the orange flickering heat. Sparks was also keeping close to them and settled himself near the lake side.
Alistair grabbed a blanket and swung it around Kailee’s shoulders and then took another one and laid it on the ground. He helped her sit and then took a seat next to her. For a few moments, they just stared at the flames as they danced higher above the wood.
Alistair sighed and looked upwards. “In order to tell you what you are, I need to tell you the whole backstory along with it. You not only need to know what you are but why this is so important… Some really sad things have happened Kailee. And unfortunately, some of that sadness must now be your burden as well.”
Kailee noticed a very tall silhouette walking towards them from the tree lines. As he got closer, she was able to make out his towering physique even better. It was a man with a slender and toned build. He was incredibly large. She would guess he was easily over seven feet tall. He had a dark rich caramel skin and had pointed ears.
“Oliver, you made it.” Alistair said with a smile. “Here she is…” He looked over at Kailee nodding in her direction. He glanced back at the man who wasn’t speaking, and a realization hit him. “Oh right, I forgot you can’t let the air get to it can you. Okay… umm Kailee…”
She looked at Alistair and could see his face looked a bit nervous. “What is it?”
“Oliver has the antidote for you. But ummm… it is a very rare nectar from a moonlight flower. That can only be harvested by the elves, which is what Oliver is. The thing is… the nectar is special, and the potency starts to drain when it is pulled from the flower. There is only one way to keep it effective. And that is for the elves to use their magic and give the nectar directly.” Alistair cleared his throat. He could see she wasn’t understanding so he would just come out with it. “He is going to have to give it to you mouth to mouth.”
Kailee’s eyes widened as Oliver knelt down in front of her. Her eyes flashed up to Alistair who gave her a reassuring nod. “Trust me Kailee… please. This doesn’t mean anything. It is just how it has to be delivered.”
She closed her eyes as Oliver came closer to her. She felt his lips press against her own and soon could taste a pure sweetness. Stronger than honey and it had a slowing energy with it.
“There, that should do it.” Oliver said, pulling back. He watched Kailee open her eyes. “Sorry about that my lady. But it is the only way for the antidote to work. It will take a few moments before it takes effect.”
“Yes, and then we are also going to have to take that cuff of yours off. But first… let me tell you a story.” Alistair looked up to Kailee’s brown eyes and gave her a small smile.
“Centuries ago… the world was protected by the purest and strongest magic…”
