Sometimes, tragedy can be beautiful.

"On what already seems to be a beautiful christmas eve, astronomers report a finding. The moon will be in conjunction with mars" The reporter said on the news as Obi capriciously walked out, placing his bags by the entrance. It wasn't a lot of bags, just a few things he'd need lodging on the island for two days. The two days that were bound to change his life because he was about to meet his star. His role model. The icon.

Photos and snippets hit the newspapers the moment she stepped off that plane with a bright sunset yellow dress and a hat. Her blue eyes rested behind the disguise of her huge glasses. But the media just knew.

SENATOR'S DAUGHTER HASSAN MADU VISITS HOME TOWN.

She hated that the Nigerian media still hid her behind her father's shadow even though she was fully emancipated from the family. She found it utterly disrespectful, especially the ones that went as far as misgendering or deadnaming her. But with a deep breath, she allowed it all sink in.

Because it was the place she was in. Some photos had even leaked of her in her suite in one of the Sheraton Hotels. And rumor had it that she had to move closer to the island where she was hosting some fundraiser christmas party. The purpose was to gather enough money for trans people both in Nigeria and Dubai to have access to healthcare without such limitations like money and all that.

It was a dream come true for not only the people but also herself, in her attempt to expand her brand. The Hassan Madu brand-

-perhaps it might be what it takes for her to finally move out of her father's shadow. Maybe then she'd have established a few things.

But then again, it was more than that. More than just a brand. It was connecting to the people, finally connecting to the people that were not like her. Acts like these was why she was called an icon.

"What did you pack?" Mira asked from the couch. He sat beside her, shrugging his shoulders. "Just the essentials" He smirked and in walked DaSilva.

Who was even worse. He had a whole suitcase and some box. For- "Two days?" Mira yelled, not having a problem with her one filled bag. But she couldn't complain, Silva was one that wanted this and he was the one paying for the hotel. Honestly, some change was needed. Maybe a new environment to enjoy christmas. Because by the twenty sixth, they'd come back to this.

Obi had already made peace with the fact that he was missing the school play and dance. Besides, not that Abdul was even his date. As much as he wanted it, they hadn't still spoken. And it just didn't make sense without him. He as well, needed some time to clear his head. Focus on himself—

-and free himself of the guilt from bailing on the drama club last minute, leaving them short of a wise man for the play. But there was something of the two wise men that sort of felt original.

So Bade didn't give a rat's ass. But that was after the full blown tantrum she threw for two days.

"Are you ready?" Silva asked, shuffling the car keys in his hands. There was the jingle sound as he replied Ola with a smirk.

"Got to be prepared bitch" He sneered as Obi reached for the television remote. She stretched her hand to halt him, her eyes focused on the reporter on the screen. And her mind navigating the beauty and wonders of astronomy. There was a large swirl in the skies, cosmic blue and dark. Like some sort of dark hole. And then there was mars, as hollow and red as it was, there was life revolving around it. But that's a topic for another day. Mira however, felt this cosmic attraction to whatever was going on. The reporter popped back on with a sly smile

"They say the moon will be in conjunction with mars and will set the tune for the new year's which means there will be alot of emotional excitement in our lives" Mira hummed, turning to Silva. "You believe this zodiac bullshit?"

She shushed him, diverting her attention back to the television. "Expect excitement associated with love and passion. but also breakthrough. This comes from from the moonlight astronomer's agency. And manifesting into that is where i bring this segment to a close" Obi turned it off at those words. "Finally" He exhaled from his lips.

"Something tells me his zodiac thing will be big in the future" Mira rolled her eyes. "It's astronomy woman" Silva said, rolling her suitcase by the tyre.

He was drop dead gorgeous in the wine jacket he wore and the Louis Vuitton boots. While Mira as always was in a graphic tshirt with a photo of the 1985 band on it. But this time, she was in shorts.

Like the shortest ripped shorts you could see, and she as well was in high heeled boots. It was the first time Mira dressed like that outside the house and Obi had noticed, but he chose to say nothing.

"I'm a cancer though" Mira said, trying to stay woke when it was just one article that she stumbled on online by mistake. "Yassified cancer" She laughed loudly as Obi held his in.

"Please can we go" He urged, turning to face the door and Mira wrapped her arms around his shoulder. "I tap into emotional excitement" She yelled, holding the keys to the apartment as Silva ran down the front porch. He let the sun soak into his skin as he paused for a second, giving.

Giving main character energy. He looked back to Mira. "If anything, the juxtaposition of the moon and a whole other planet means something horrifying is going to happen. Fuck zodiac and but that's creepy as hell. Up there" He pointed to sky and Mira just couldn't tell when it was enough so there she was saying for the nth time.

"It means-"

-

"Death. It means death" Fiyin, another not so fan of astronomy said, trying to zip up her dress. Deb was on the call as she as well, prepared for the dance. She had read the astronomy report to Fiyin who made it clear with that statement that it

was-

"Bullshit"

"You got to be positive man" Deb stroked her hair whilst letting her tie hang loosely from her neck. Of course she was closer to being done than Fiyin who still had her makeup to do. She was still in the process of trying out her blue dress that Deb had sent. It was nothing fancy, just something she wore once for a hosting party with her mother.

Now Fi didn't feel comfortable taking the charity, but after much convincing, she accepted it. Besides she didn't even have a dress, and she mentally made up her mind that if anything happened, she'd be happy staying at home with her father on Christmas eve.

"How do i look?" Fi asked, finally getting the zip to reach the top. "When should i come pick you?" Their questions clashed before Deb paused, finally looking into the low pixelated camera which in retrospect was the judge.

"How about i see you person first?" Deb teased and Fiyin gestured the middle finger to her. "I'm joking. From this nokia, you flawless"

"That was so backhanded help" Fiyin burst out laughing before running off to scavenge for her makeup. Which was just some foundation and lip gloss. And if she was lucky enough, she'd find Ophelia's eye pencil to sharpen. And maybe color. "I'm seeing here on the news that there's some fire at Balogon market; which isn't far from here" She said. "What? Well i'm sure the fire brigade has it under control-" Fiyin replied without giving it much thought but then they both paused. "But you know Nigeria. Millions worth of goods and lives would be destroyed before they show up" Deborah shaded, it was not a good thing to say but it was the truth.

"And all for what?"

"Some ethnic battle for power between the Yoruba's and the Fulani's" Deborah gritted through her teeth. "Doesn't make sense when it's your own people against you. Us fighting ourselves" She gave an activism speech but Fiyin seemed to miss that. She hummed, delving fully into finding her lips gloss that she saw minute ago.

"You know what forget it, i'll come pick you up in an hour" Deb said before hanging up. "Wait-" She disappeared off the screen as Fi turned to the floor, sighting the gloss from a distance.

She leaned forward to pick it up, her back making a crack sound from all the hawking she did. "Fuck—"
