Chapter 51

Weekend came rather quickly as it had both Aria and Frank dressed in a matching white polo shirt on a blue jean while waiting for Sandra to show up with Daniel as planned before they can all set out for his mother’s residence.

Sandra showed up with Daniel after a whole hour of waiting as she kept adjusting Daniel bag pack with a scowl.

“Remember what we talked about okay? Be a good boy and i will come get you later” he repeated to her son over and over again.

“Okay mom”

She gave him a k**s across the cheek before Frank pulled him close.

“I will give you a call when we get back” Frank told her and she answered with a nod.

The sun was shining like never before when they finally set out on their journey toward Ikeja from the island.

It was a long drive to the Okoji’s resident given how heavy traffic was at the moment.

Aria was nervous as she sat in the passenger seat but she had to be reminded that, this day wasn’t about her as she took a quick glance at the boy seating at the back seat playing with his toy car through the rearview mirror and sighed.

Aria couldn’t help but feel Sandra’s absence was wrong but everything was still in her favor. She could only imagine how thing would have turned out if only she had come along with them.

The thought of having to endure through the torture of having Sandra parade herself as the mother of the day at Frank’s mother house would have been was very unlikely.

The whole ride was quiet with just the FM playing some music. Frank’s face was fixed on the road that stretches ahead as he kept drumming his fingers against the steering wheels while they wait for the line to start moving.

“Do you want something? A Bottle of water perhaps?” He asked, now staring at the little boy carrying a blue basket of cold bottles of water on his shoulder as he lingered beside his window side.

“No am okay” she replied with a smile before a thought crossed her mind and she turned to look at Daniel who was busy with his toy car and very much oblivious to the eyes now watching him with concern.

“Do you want anything Daniel?”

The little boy only looked at her but said nothing.

“Do you want coke or Pepsi? Which do you prefer son” Frank had to chip in.

“coke” he replied.

Frank quickly reached for his wallet and pulled out some bank note and handed them to Aria before whining down his glass to enable her make a quick purchase.

She paid for a can of chilled coke and some snacks before handing them to Daniel who mumbled a thank you at her and continued driving his car against the space beside him at the back seat.

They arrived at the resident after a long drive with Daniel fast asleep in the back seat. Aria went around to retrieve the boy before placing him against her shoulder.

“Can you carry him dear” asked Frank as he hurried around to stand beside her, still looking at the little boy who was sound asleep and very much unawares of his surrounding.

“Yes I can”

They met his mom by the door way as she was all smiles and hugs while staring at the little boy who only turned and stirred against Aria’s shoulder and just kept sleeping still.

“He is just like his father” Said Mrs Okoji as she gushes at the sight of her grandson.

After a few exchange of greetings and little talks, they all turned and walked towards the living room with Frank carrying the boy at this point after his mother scolded him for allowing Aria do it a while ago even though he insisted that Aria wanted to do it in his defense.

Leaving his mother and Aria behind,he quickly made his way towards his old room to lay him down after realizing his weight and how much he will have to endure if he was to carry him any longer than necessary.

Aria was left with Mrs Okoji as they settled down in the living room.

“How have you been my dear” she asked. Her voice filled with concern.

“I have been well mom” She replied simply.

“No my dear. I meant to ask how you have really been with everything going on with my son and that other woman”

Aria wasn’t sure how to reply that question thrown at her but it did give her the push to really access her feeling at that point. She doesn’t know how to place it into word but she knew something was still missing.

She wasn’t sure how she truly feel about the appearance of Sandra but she was dealing with it, a day at a time.

Aria has been able to look past everything and accept Daniel because he is the son of the man she loves and might get married to when the time comes.

She can’t really separate those two feeling as she rather settled for a simpler answer.

“I’m quite okay with the way things are; as long as she doesn’t interfere in our relationship and personal lives then we can get along for the sake of Daniel”

“You are so kindhearted my dear. My son was right when he told me you were the one for him. Your maturity is beyond comprehension I must say”

Aria only smile at her comment before Frank walked back in to join them.

“So what did I miss” he asked as he settled down beside her.

“Aria was telling me how good of a father you are becoming my son. Daniel reminds me so much of you when you were at his age”

“He is growing up on us all despite the crazy relationship with his mother” Frank reasoned out loud.

“She is still the same old Sandra isn’t she?”

“I’m afraid, she is worst”

Aria only busied herself with her phone as she had no contribution to the matter.

When it was time to leave. Aria led Daniel outside while Frank was still in the house speaking with his mom about a more private matter.

He was probably explaining why the little boy looked and acted rather withdrawn when he woke up and had to meet his grandmother who was just too cuddly and excited to be meeting his grandson for the first time.

Aria was on the phone with her mom when they got outside and it seemed like she was arguing with her over something rather than their usual small talks as she kept pacing up and down without paying much attention to the little boy who was busy chasing a colorful dragon fly around the compound.

She was still deep into her conversation when she felt Frank’s presence beside her.

“Where is Daniel?” He whispered at her.

Her eyes darted towards the direction where she had seen him last but panicked when he wasn’t in sight.

“Mom please, i will call you back”

She ended the call and turned to Frank.

“He was just over there a while ago while i was talking to mom just now”

“So where is he now?” Frank had to ask.

They both turned towards the direction as he began to call at the little boy.

“Daniel! Where are you?” He half called and yelled.
