Chapter 81

“I’ve told my parents about our marriage. They would like to meet you. Prepare yourself and pack your belongings. We’ll set off early tomorrow morning.”

Calla was left dumbstruck by his text. Was she about to meet her parents–in–law? She wasn’t mentally prepared for that at all!

After replying to Mercer’s text with an ‘Alright, she put her slippers on and scampered away to look for Jasmine.

Looking at the single word, he could imagine Calla’s bewilderment and couldn’t help but smile. He chuckled out loud this time.

The senior managers around the table were surprised by the smile on his face. Mercer had always been reserved, plus the meeting today was one of extreme importance. It seemed like his thoughts had strayed from the matter at hand multiple times already.

At this moment, the senior manager doing his presentation put down the files in his hands and announced, “Mr. Garland, I’ve finished my report,”

Mercer came to his senses and hastily put his phone away. He sat up straighter and said sternly. “Very good. Let’s proceed to the next topic of discussion.”

The person who’d finished his report was shocked. He then reminded Mercer carefully, “Mr. Garland, didn’t you say you were going to set some expected outcomes for this project?”

Mercer said in an even tone, “Oh. After the meeting, come to my office. I have a few things to discuss with you. Let’s not take up everyone’s time here.”

The senior manager thought that Mercer was prioritizing his report and confidently sat down while feeling complacent.

Mercer wasn’t the CEO for nothing. Of course he could react quickly in situations like these. Since he was spacing out just now, he didn’t hear the entirety of the report at all.

Unfortunately, the project which the report was based on was very important, which meant he’d have to read through the report again once he returned to his office later.

Elsewhere, Calla ran to the kitchen to look for Jasmine. She pulled Jasmine to the living room and sat her down on the couch.

Jasmine chastised her with a frown, “Ms. Sherman, I’m boiling some soup!”

Jasmine said with a conflicted expression, “It’s just soup. Boiling it for a few minutes more won’t be catastrophic. Jasmine, Mercer wants to take me back to Garland Mansion in Sedonia tomorrow.”

Jasmine smiled at this revelation. “Ms. Sherman, you and Mr. Garland are married. Of course you’re going to have to visit your parents–in–law.”

Calla’s mind was a mess as she blurted out, “I know, but I’m extremely nervous. Quick, tell me about the personalities of my mother and father–in–law as well as what kind of girls they like. What kind of clothes should I wear and what gifts should I bring?”

After a moment of thought, Jasmine responded, “Mr. Garland Senior is a kind man. As long as you’re well-

mannered, he won’t make things difficult for you.

“As for Mrs. Garland Senior, she’s smart and feisty. I’ve worked for the Garland family for many years. Yet, I’ve never been able to figure out what kind of girls she liked for her son.”

Calla had a feeling that Rose, Mercer’s mom, would be a hard puzzle to solve. She asked, “What do you mean?”

“She has never been satisfied with any girl Mercer was involved with since he was young.” Jasmine admitted. In the days they’d spent together, Jasmine found that Calla was a great person. Thus, she told Calla the truth.

“What?” Calla felt like she was set up to fail upon hearing Jasmine’s words.

When she saw Calla looking stressed, Jasmine consoled, “Ms. Sherman, don’t give up now. After all, you’ve already married Mr. Garland

“No matter how much Mrs. Garland Senior might dislike you, she has to accept you anyway. You just need to try your best to make her happy. She won’t scold someone who’s sweet toward her!”

Calla pondered for a moment, then nodded in agreement
