A Dish Best Served Cold (The Man In Rage)
Chapter 1140 A Terrified Han Dong-Min

Wu Wei-Tao had an apologetic look on his face as he looked at the old Master Lu.

"Old Master Lu, I'm so sorry for what happened to your grandson. I couldn't save him. If I had 3,000 men that day, I would have had the hotel surrounded and saved both young men. I would have made Ye Fan pay for what he'd done. But I didn't have the means to do so. Deputy Mayor Han Dong-Min is in charge of security matters. When he told me what was going on, I rushed to the scene, but it was too late then," said Wu Wei-Tao with deep sorrow lining his face and guilt heavy in his words. A stranger might have thought that he was the one who had lost his son that day.

With a few words, Wu Wei-Tao had very slyly shirked his responsibilities and placed the blame on Han Dong-Min instead.

It didn't matter that they had been partners for years.

When one's personal interests were put on the line, it was every man for himself.

"You must be Wu. Jun-Lin mentioned your name to me. Without you, we wouldn't have been able to round these scoundrels up so quickly. Get up, I won't blame you for what happened. You're not the one who's charged with security in Yunzhou. If anyone is to be blamed, it's going to be the deputy mayor, Han Dong-Min. But it's been a few days since the incident. How's the investigation coming along? It should have been completed by now. Have you found the evidence that prove these criminals guilty?" said Lu Cang-Qiong sternly.

He was going to leverage on official channels and deal with Ye Fan this way. No one was going to claim that he had gone above the law and maligned Ye Fan's good name.

That was why he needed to have evidence of Ye Fan's misdeeds before he did anything.

That would justify what they were going to do next.

Wu Wei-Tao fell into an awkward silence.

"Have you not gotten to the bottom of things? Wu Wei-Tao, are you tired of being a mayor?" said He Lan-Shan harshly before Lu Cang-Qiong could say a word.

Wu Wei-Tao appeared to be in a predicament. "Secretary He, this really isn't my fault. I was suspended from all duties. Han Dong-Min is the one who's running the administration in Yunzhou right now."

Han Dong-Min was the deputy mayor. With Wu Wei-Tao temporarily stripped of his duties, he naturally took on the mayor's responsibilities.

"Is that so? Where's Han Dong-Min? Why isn't he here?" asked He Lan-Shan in a voice that was filled with anger and displeasure.

Despite the huge commotion that was taking place right now, He Lan-Shan had seen neither hair nor hide of the vice mayor. He was naturally displeased.

'Tm right here, Secretary He! I'm right here!" A frantic voice approached from the distance before He Lan-Shan could get one of his men to call Han Dong-Min and summon him.

Everyone turned and saw Han Dong-Min fighting his way through the crowd and running anxiously towards He Lan-Shan.

Han Dong-Min had been here all along.

He couldn't have been unaware of what had been going on. He was the one in charge of the city right now, after all.

But like Wu Wei-Tao, he had been observing the event from afar.

He was not on Wu Wei-Tao's side. The mayor wanted Ye Fan to fall from grace while he simply wanted to stay out of trouble. That had been why he had not made his presence known.

He couldn't afford to offend either Ye Fan or the Lu and Xur families.

There had been nothing that he could do but hide and stay out of sight.

He had tried his very best to stay out of their fight.

But He Lan-Shan was here. He couldn't hide any longer even if he wanted to.

Wu Wei-Tao had already attempted to place the blame of what had happened on him.

He Lan-Shan had called for him specifically too.

There was nothing Han Dong-Min could do but face these men.

"I see that you've been here all along. One might think that there's no government in Yunzhou. Did you know that Old Master Lu's grandson was killed in Yunzhou?" asked He Lan-Shan fiercely. Han Dong-Min nodded fearfully. "Yes, sir. I do."

"Why did you not report this matter to Jiangdong in detail? Were you intending on keeping me in the dark? I wouldn't have known this if Old Master Lu hadn't told me.

He Lan-Shan interrupted Han Dong-Min before the latter could say another word. "It's been days since the murder. Have you arrested the murderer? Have you collected all available evidence and questioned every available witness?"

The look of helplessness on Han Dong-Min's face grew more visible as he was bombarded by a barrage of questions from He Lan-Shan.

"Secretary He, we're still in the midst of investigating the case. That's why we can't apprehend the suspect right now."

What?

"What do you mean by the investigation still ongoing? What have you been doing for the past few days?" hollered He Lan-Shan furiously.

He Lan-Shan had been embarrassed when he had heard that the murder had taken place within his jurisdiction.

He was mortified by the fact that Han Dong-Min had not caught the murderer after days of investigation. His subordinate had just embarrassed him in front of Old Master Lu. He was livid.

"This is a rather complicated case, which is why progress is a little slow. But we're doing our best and will make sure that justice is served at the end of the day. Old Master Lu will have the justice and fairness that he craves," said Han Dong-Min hastily.

Wu Wei-Tao appeared confused. "Dong-Min, it's a straightforward case. The motive is simple, so is the chronology of events that led to the incident. We know who are involved as well. I don't think it's as complicated as you make it out to be. You simply have to make the arrest."

Han Dong-Min's face darkened instantly and began cursing Wu Wei-Tao under his breath. The mayor was clearly trying to put him in a spot.

A severe look appeared on He Lan-Shan's face. He turned towards Han Dong-Min and asked sternly, "Han Dong-Min, is he speaking the truth?"

Han Dong-Min smiled weakly. "We still lack the necessary evidence to convict, that's why..."

"Silence! I want you to arrest the suspect right now," thundered He Lan-Shan.

Han Dong-Min nodded. "Yes, sir. I'll have my men locate the suspect."

He knew the suspect was standing right before him. But he didn't wish to incur Ye Fan's wrath and could only feign ignorance in order to delay the inevitable. "Dong-Min, are you trying to play dumb? The suspect is standing right in front of you," laughed Wu Wei-Tao.

How Han Dong-Min wished that he could give Wu Wei-Tao a hard kick. He was trying to get him killed.

"Is he right here? Who's the bold scoundrel who dares to kill Lu's grandson?" He Lan-Shan looked up and surveyed the crowd

around him.

Lu Cang-Qiong finally looked up and stared at the distant crowd before Haiyuan Restaurant.

He saw thousands of soldiers on their knees.

Xur He was lying prone on the ground. No one knew if he was still alive.

Xur Jun-Lin was on his knees as well, growling fiercely with an intense resentment.

Before them stood a proud young man.

His eyes were filled with a strong light while a mirthless smile tugged at his lips.

The darkness in his eyes spoke of an incredible power and authority as he gazed down upon the people at his feet.
