A Dish Best Served Cold (The Man In Rage) -
Chapter 1578
Over the years, Ye Fan had officially canonized the Four Dragon Slayers.
According to his plans, these Dragon Slayers were his best supporters in his move towards the Chu family.
As for Junie, it had never crossed his mind to bring her along.
After all, the move against the Chu family was indeed a dangerous mission.
Even so, together with the four slayers, his chances of success was less than 50 %.
It was more likely that there would be a great deal of bloodshed and they might not live to come home.
Junie was a physician and she was not a warrior. Hence, she could not protect herself either.
If Junie came along, her life would be at risk.
It was for these reasons that he had not canonized Junie as one of the Dragon Slayers when Han recommended her.
It must be understood that the term 'Dragon Slayer' was not just a title, but an honor, a responsibility and a mission.
The statutes of the Dragon God Hall clearly stated thatwhen there was war, all the Dragon Slayers conferred by the Dragon Master had to follow the master to the Chu family. Those who violated this instruction would be punished.
Since Ye Fan did not want Junie to face the risk of death in the battle that they had little chance of winning, he did not confer on her the title of Dragon Slayer.
The title that he had given her, 'Forest God' was only done in jest in order to bring her into the Dragon God Hall.
It was just a nice name and not officially conferred by Han.
After that, Junie had often nagged Ye Fan over this matter.
Many times, she had requested that Ye Fan give her an official document from the Dragon God Hall.
Of course, he did not give herthe document but just a
promise.
He had said that after she had achieved the realm of Grandmaster, she would be canonized immediately, and she would be ranked first among the five Dragon Slayers. That was the only way to keep Junie quiet.
This time, though, Ye Fan did not expect Junie to turn up and insisted on coming along with the other Dragon Slayers.
"I insiston going."
"My skills are inferior to none."
"No one can match my skills in healing. My skills in poisoning are good enough to impress the Supreme Grandmaster."
"If Gaius can come along, there is no reason I am not allowed to."
"Ye Fan, your are biased and unfair."
Junie would not let go of this and she went on and no chiding Ye Fan.
Possibly, due to her rushing over, Junie was breathless and there were drops of perspiration on her brow.
"Darn!"
"You both can go on quarrelling all you like. Just don't mention my name."
Gaius was not pleased at his name being dragged into this debate.
Furthermore, Junie was twisting the truth.
What nonsense! What are you boasting about?
Ye Fan laughed. "Junie, don't you be stubborn."
"You may be skilled in healing, but not in combat."
"Your specialties and attributes are not suitable for this type of physical confrontations."
"All you need to do is to stay back and be on standby."
"When there is a need, you will be of greatest help."
"Besides, you did promise me back then that you would not participate in the final battle but rather just stay back and be on standby in case your healing skills are required." Ye Fan continued to persuade her.
"It's different now."
"Now, I want to go. Wasn't the Dragon God Hall built for the day when fires of battle are lit up?" Junie looked up at Ye Fan and argued with reason.
"We were all chosen by the Dragon Master. If we can't participate in this final battle. What's the point of me joining this Dragon God Hall?"
"Ye Fan, please let me come along."
"I'm not going to be just a spectator."
"Or to go back on my word."
"I said I would go up Mount Chumen with you!"
Junie spoke with a burning passion, and in the depths of her beautiful eyes, a ray of light flickered. Her voice was firm.
The day she met Ye Fan was etched in her memory.
The young man was seriously injured that day and barely alive. Yet, in his eyes, an eternal flame seemed
to be burning.
It came to pass that Junie and Ye Fan reached a gentleman's covenant.
He would help her attack and recapture the palace, while she would join the Dragon God Hall to help him get to the Chu family! Indeed, at that moment, Junie had seen the great potential in him.
She had said those words hopingthat when he had recovered and attained greater power, he would help her get revenge.
As for his missions, she would help but she would not risk her life.
However, over the years, after being together for so long, her feelings for him had changed gradually.
Their relationship had previously been one that was mutually benefitting, each needful of the other.
However, at this moment, Junie sincerely wanted to help Ye Fan fulfill his lifelong wish and pursuit. She was willing to risk everything, even her life!
Junie's speech really surprised Ye Fan and he was taken aback.
He paused for a moment and smiled. "Junie, this is unlike you."
"I recall that you used to be a wise businesswoman who would never risk any losses."
"Darn it! Have you developed feelings for me?"
"I have to tell you this. You should nip it in the bud."
"I am a happily married man."
Ye Fan laughed wickedly.
Junie blushed at his words and retorted angrily. "You are talking nonsense."
"I would never fall for someone like you."
Ye Fan asked, "Then, why would you want to take any risks for me?"
"I am doing it because..." Junie wanted to explain.
"Okay, okay. I wouldn't tease you anymore. Just obey me, Junie. You will be more useful to us by staying behind instead of going with us." "If I am to come back from this battle with serious injuries, my life would depend on your healing skills."
In the end, Ye Fan still did not let Junie go with him.
They stuck to the original plan whereby the four Dragon Slayers would proceed with Ye Fan to the Chu family residence.
That was in three days' time.
The reason why they did not go immediately was because Ye Fan had to clarify certain facts first before making the move. After the meeting with the Dragon Slayers, Ye Fan returned to the Chu residence and continued to take care of Tang Yun. For two days, he was with Tang Yun.
On the third day, when he noticed that Tang Yun looked healthier, he asked the latter to take a walk with him.
"How are you, now? Do you feel better?"
Ye Fan and Tang Yun walked leisurely along the country road.
A breeze brushed across their faces and swayed the green willow trees.
In a simple dress, Tang Yun looked as pretty as ever.
Passersby seemed mesmerized by her beauty and would take a second look.
"Yeah, much better."
"Well, you have asked me to come out today. I think you have some questions for me."
Tang Yun seemed to be feeling cheerful as a rare smile appeared on her usually cool and aloof face.
It was like a snow-covered mountain welcoming the spring.
"Indeed, it is not possible to hide anything from you." Ye Fan laughed and turned to her. "Tang Yun, I shall be frank with you, then. I hope you will answer my questions truthfully."
"I want to know, in the cave in the Boguia Rainforest last time, I succeeded in refining the Fire Spirit Fruit
Technique. Was it because you helped me?" "A few days before that, was it you who brought a child to my Mother?"
"Who is the mother of that child?"
"Who is the father?"
These were the questions that had bothered Ye Fan fora longtime.
Before this, he had resolved any matters pertaining to himself.
Only then, could he go forward to Mount Chumen without any cares or worries to drag him down and settle all grievances with the Chu family.
However, after meeting with Tang Yun, there arose some doubts and questions in his mind.
Before he left on his next quest, he needed to clear a doubt.
He wanted to know if the child was his and Tang Yun's.
