A One Night Stand With My Boss ( Maia Sanchez ) -
Chapter 362
"Assistant," Camila replied coolly.
Craig's uncle's eyes lit up at her response. He slapped his thigh and said excitedly, "Ah, so you're close to the boss! That's perfect! Camila, could you talk to your boss about getting your cousin a job at the company? He's been job hunting recently." Camila furrowed her brow slightly. "I'm not involved in hiring. We have a careers page on our company website where you can find suitable positions and submit your resume," she explained. She added, "With your skills, I'm sure you'll nail the interview."
Craig's cousin, now visibly agitated, raised his voice. "I'm just asking for a little help, and you're making excuses. It's like you don't consider us family at all."
Camila put down her fork, lifted her head slightly, and met his gaze calmly. "It seems to me that we are not, in fact, family."
Craig's cousin stared at her, incredulous.
Suddenly, Grandma slammed her fork down and glared at Claire. "This is the daughter you raised!" she exclaimed loudly.
"Is she wrong?" Claire put down her fork and faced Grandma. "You're related to my ex-husband's former wife. It's natural for him to care for you, but what right do you have to criticize my daughter?" The atmosphere was tense, like a storm about to break. Cole sensed the escalating tension and promptly set down his fork.
He looked deeply at Claire, then turned to Grandma, speaking in a calm yet firm voice, "Mom, you're the elder, and it's our duty to take care of you. But please, don't push my limits and principles." Grandma's face turned a steely blue, and the atmosphere at the dinner table tightened to an extreme.
Her hands trembled with anger as
she pointed at Cole and accused, "Fine, you marry a new wife and
treat us like this. My daughter wast
blind to marry such a cold-hearted beast! You and this woman must have been involved long before, driving my daughter to her grave!"
Then turning to Camila, she spat, "And this daughter of yours is no good either, looking all smug!"
The atmosphere at the table plummeted to freezing point, and everyone's expression soured.
Craig took a deep breath, aware of how his parents and Aunt Ann had come together. "Grandma, can you please be reasonable? You were there when Mom was sick; we didn't even know Aunt Ann then." "Craig! We're the ones related by blood! How can you turn your back on us?" Grandpa gritted his teeth, his cheeks quivering with rage.
Cole, red-faced with anger, retorted,
"Dad, Mom, Craig is telling the truth.
Claire and I met only after your daughter passed away, and we've done nothing wrong to Craig's mom. Please stop these unwarranted accusations and slander against
Claire and Camila!"
Craig's cousin glared at Camila, sneering, "Putting on airs! Just a lousy assistant, probably been messed around by countless men."
The foul, insulting words hit Camila's
ears like a slap, igniting her anger to
its peak. She took a deep breath, slowly picked up a plate of salad from the table, and dumped it over Craig's cousin's head. Leaves and dressing slid down his hair and cheeks, sticking messily to his face...
