His eyes went wide as he watched the plate of food slip off the table and crash onto the floor, sending sauce splattering everywhere. The atmosphere around the dining table froze, everyone staring in shock. Camila sat still, her face a mask of calm as she declared, "That's the price for insulting me." Each word cut through the room like a knife.

Her words hit Craig's cousin like a slap to the face, sparking a blaze of anger and humiliation. "What the hell is wrong with you, you crazy witch!" he yelled, his face flushing from pale to beet red, his blood seemingly boiling. He shot up from his seat, fists clenched and muscles tensed, ready to lunge at Camila. His eyes blazed with fury, as if he could devour her.

Craig was the first to react. He leaped from his chair, pinning his cousin to the dining table with a swift, decisive move, as if he were restraining a criminal. His cousin struggled, eyes wide in shock, but Craig held him down firmly. "What are you doing? Let go of me!" his cousin roared, glaring at Craig.

Ignoring the shouts, Craig maintained his grip, showing no intention of letting go. "Craig! What are you doing? He's your cousin!" the elderly woman cried, hopping anxiously.

"Enough!" Cole's voice cut through the commotion. He approached the table, looking sternly at Craig's cousin. "You've gone too far. You need to apologize to Cami." Intimidated by Craig and Cole's authority, the cousin glared at Camila but didn't say a word.

Cole turned to Claire and said gently, "Claire, take Cami to wash up."

Claire nodded, walking over to Camila and gently taking her hand Cole

gave Camila a reassuring

smile. "Don't worry, Cami, we've got

your back."

Camila glanced at Cole, her eyes softening with gratitude. Then she followed Claire away from the table, heading towards the restroom.

Craig finally released his cousin, who

nearly stumbled forward, almost falling. His face was a mix of anger and humiliation, his expression dark and twisted. Covered in food and stains, he looked utterly disheveled.

He shot Craig a furious look, but under Craig's cold stare, he chose to remain silent.

"This stepdaughter of yours is overreacting. It was just a joke, wasn't it?" Craig's uncle said, looking at Cole.

"A joke?" Cole chuckled bitterly. "Uncle, if your daughter were insulted like this, would you still call it a joke?" The uncle had no response, left speechless.

Cole turned to the two elders, his expression complex. "Craig's mom passed away early. I've paid every cent of support money due over the years, and the kids have grown up well. I've done my duty, haven't wronged anyone. We've had little interaction over the years, and you seldom visited the kids. Maybe it's best if we keep it that way from now on."
