2 - Chapter 7

Louis left.

He came in a hurry and left in a hurry.

Only his mood had become even worse.

I slept well, and the next day I arrived at the airport on time.

Before checking in, I received a call from my university advisor.

"Eliza, your Jacob is returning to the country today. Do you have time to meet up?"

I was taken aback, remembering that cold and rational man from my memories.

I'm an orphan, grew up in an orphanage.

I was particularly ambitious from a young age.

To have the confidence to be independent, I studied like crazy, successfully getting into the best university in New York.

I studied the best major.

And in my sophomore year, I successfully joined my advisor's research group, even though I was just an ordinary assistant.

The Jacob my advisor mentioned was the main force of that research group, Jacob.

He was also the object of my secret crush.

Unfortunately, in my junior year, he went abroad to study.

My feelings hadn't had a chance to be expressed before they ended without a start.

Seeing that I didn't speak, my advisor continued.

"You and Jacob were the most outstanding students I've ever had.

I had the highest hopes for you two."

"It's a pity that you got married right after graduation."

At this point, there was regret in my advisor's tone.

I pursed my lips, feeling a bit uncomfortable.

If I hadn't married Louis back then, I'd probably still be doing research now.

Thinking of this, I suddenly didn't want to leave.

Maybe 30 years old would be a brand new start.

Leaving the airport, I agreed to my advisor's invitation for the gathering.

I didn't return to the hotel, but came directly to a remote residential area.

This was where I had rented during my university years.

After marriage, I bought it.

In the seven years, whenever I couldn't bear the suffocating life in the Wood family, I would come here.

This remote, messy place that Louis would never set foot in.

It was a quiet place that belonged to me alone.

Putting down my luggage, I comfortably lay down on the bed.

The small one-bedroom apartment, totaling only forty square meters, Was filled by me with all kinds of books.

Opening any book at random, it was full of dense notes.

Perhaps it was because I truly liked it, or perhaps it was because I wasn't resigned.

In these seven years, unknown to anyone, I had never given up studying.

Thinking of tonight's gathering, I found my research notes.

Since I could see my advisor tonight, I wanted to try if he could give me a chance.

Even if it was just to be an assistant.

After living aimlessly for several years, the happiest times were still the days in the lab back then.
