The gathering was set at a five-star hotel.

Without Louis constantly reminding me of his requirements, I didn't bother to dress up.

Long clothes, long pants, hair casually tied up.

I just put on a pair of comfortable flats and left.

The hotel manager still remembered me and was very attentive when he saw me.

No matter how unrestrained Louis played outside, he had only given the position of Mrs. Wood to me.

"Mrs. Wood, are you here to find Mr. Wood? Mr. Wood's private room is on the second floor, I can take you there." What a coincidence?

I was a bit surprised but still politely declined his offer.

"No need, I have an appointment with someone else."

"Jacob."

Jacob nodded, still as cool as before.

My advisor quickly greeted me, smiling and asking me to sit down.

"Eliza, after so many years, you've become a grown woman."

I found it amusing, but my eyes felt a bit hot.

The other classmates also laughed. Seven years after graduation, Everyone had shed their youthful naivety.

"Alright, alright, sit down quickly."

Looking around, there was only one seat left next to Jacob.

After all, he was a senior I had once had a crush on. After sitting down, I felt a bit uncomfortable.

Jacob, however, seemed to have no reaction, remaining calm and composed.

During the meal, my advisor was very happy.

He kept talking about the days when we did research together.

"I still remember when Eliza first joined our research group, she was just a girl who knew nothing."

My advisor didn't continue with what came after. I lowered my eyes and quietly drank my soup.

After the gathering, I didn't rush to leave.

When most people had left, I took out my notes from my bag.

"Professor, I want to start learning again."

"Do you think I still have a chance?"

My advisor was very surprised. He took my notes and carefully looked through them for a long time.

When he put them down, his face was already full of smiles.

"Eliza, I indeed didn't misjudge you."

"Let me think about it tonight and recommend a few good research institutions for you to interview."

Just as he was speaking, Jacob suddenly interrupted.

"Can I take a look?"

This was the first time he had spoken to me tonight.

I nodded and gave him the notes.

Jacob pushed up his glasses, his expression serious.

"Are you interested in coming to work with me?"

I was stunned, not quite understanding his meaning.

My advisor explained:

"Oh yes, Jacob came back this time to establish his own research institute."

"Oh my, look at my memory. Why don't you just go to Jacob's place? I'll also come to check on you from time to time."

I widened my eyes in surprise, feeling a bit guilty.

"I haven't really been involved in research for a long time."

"Can I really do it?"

Jacob nodded, his voice cool but with a kind of reassuring strength.

"You can join us, but I'll give you a probation period."

As I walked out of the private room preparing to go home, I looked up and saw someone I didn't want to see.

Louis, drunk and with a few friends, came out of the next room, seemingly planning to move to another venue. The young girl from before was still by his side.

"Eliza?"

Louis's best friend Stephen was the first to notice me.

The last time we met was at his cousin's wedding.

Seeing me, he looked relieved.

"Eliza, you came at the right time. Louis is drunk, can you take him home?"

Louis's face was flushed red, lazily leaning on the young girl, as if agreeing.

I raised an eyebrow and refused.

"Didn't Louis tell you? We've broken up."
