Bob carried Kamala back to the manor, and Deonna and Marlon walked beside them. As they returned, the maids were scurrying around the foyer, looking shocked and Winston also looked worried. Bob said nothing as he passed them to the grand stairs to bring Marlon felt complete to blame for that. He couldn't believe he didn't realize that her magic was no longer light and that she was using dark magic. Then again, how would he have known unless they told him?

Kamala to bed. She still hadn't woken up and it was worrisome.

None of this made sense to him and he felt a knot in his stomach. He knew Deonna was upset with him for making Kamala come here to use her powers. Especially considering it nearly killed her the first time she used them. But at the time, Marlon felt like there was no other choice. There wasn't any proof that they had won; though from what Marlon could tell, almost everyone including the king was dead.

He hadn't seen Alex's body though, so he wasn't sure if his other son was alive or not. But that didn't matter at this moment. As far as he knew, most everyone else was dead, which meant Alex would have no one and nothing. It no longer mattered. "Sir, what's going on?" Winston asked as they entered the foyer.

Marlon looked around at the worried faces and he turned to Deonna who still looked upset. Her eyes were misty, and she could hardly look him in the face.

"Why don't you go on up to the bed," he suggested to her.

She finally gazed at him, staring intently in the eyes without an expression on her face.

"Is that an order, master?" She asked, bitterness leaking through her words.

He was taken aback but he wasn't surprised. He sighed and stared down at the ground.

"Deonna, please," he pleaded. "Let me talk to my staff. We can talk after."

She rolled her eyes and shoved past him to get to the stairs. He watched after her until she disappeared up the stairs.

She was so upset with him. Rightfully so. He would be upset too.

He turned back to Winston and the worried maids.

"We heard an explosion," One of the maids said from the back. "It shook the entire manor."

"It was so loud," another maid cried.

"We thought we were going to die. We thought the battle made its way to the manor," Beatrice chimed in, stepping towards the front, and standing beside Winston. "What happened, sir?" Winston asked.

"There was an explosion. A lot of people got hurt," Marlon explained. "I'm not sure to what extent and I'm not sure who the survivors are. But as far as I know, right now the battle is over." Winston sighed with relief and the maids relaxed a little.

"I'm assuming we won?" Winston asked. "The battle?"

"I'm not sure," Marlon admitted. "As I said, I don't know who survived and who didn't. I don't know if the king is alive, and I don't know if Alex is alive."

Winston's eyebrows creased.

"That dirtball girl that Mater Bob had taken upstairs... is she alive?" Winston asked.

"She's alive as of right now," Marlon assured them. "But tomorrow is a different day and I'm not sure what the future holds."

They tensed; they were worried well.

"Finish your duties for the night and then get to rest," Marlon ordered them.

They nodded before dispersing from the foyer; Winston stuck around, looking sheepish for a moment.

"Anything particular you want me to do sir?" Winston asked.

Marlon thought about it for a moment and then shook his head slowly.

"Take the night off, Winston. Get some rest," Marlon ordered him.

Winston looked surprised but he nodded and bowed to Marlon.

"Yes sir," Winston said. "Thank you, sir."

Marlon made his way up the stairs and toward his bedroom; he was going to have to hear the wrath of Deonna, which he knew he deserved. But it was going to be painful to listen to. As he got into his bedroom; Deonna was sitting on the edge of the bed. She didn't look pissed, sadder than anything.

"Deonna..." Marlon whispered.

"How could you do that?" She began, tears filling her eyes. "Putting her life in jeopardy like that? You know what happened the last time. How could you ask her to do that...?"

"I was thinking of..." He tried to say.

"You were thinking of yourself, Marlon," she said, her eyes flooding with tears. "You weren't thinking about what could happen to her."

"I know..." he said softly. "How could you not tell me dark magic absorbed her?"

"We just found out before Bob asked her to come here," she explained. "I would have told you sooner had I known. But we didn't. She only suspected."

"You should have said something when Bob linked her," Marlon said, he was turning things around on Deonna. Which he knew wasn't fair to her and he instantly felt bad. The look she was giving him broke his heart. "I'm sorry..." he breathed after she said nothing. "Would it have changed anything?" Deonna asked, staring down at her hands.

"What?" He asked, staring around her face.

"If we told you that the dark magic was consuming her; would it have changed anything? Would you still want her to come here and see if she can at least try to stop the battle?"

He blinked a few times because he wasn't sure.

"I don't know..." he admitted.

"We can't gamble with lives..." she whispered.

"I know," he said again softly. It was stupid on his end, and he would forever regret it if she didn't recover from this.

"What did you even say to get Bob to agree with this?" She asked. "There's no way he would have just willingly put her life in danger."

"I told him that if he wanted to marry her..." Marlon began.

"What?" Deonna asked, shooting him a look.

"I mean one day," Marlon shrugged. "If he chooses to marry her, he would be able to. If the king won this war, he wouldn't be able to marry her, and I wouldn't be able to marry you..." "Marry me?" Deonna asked, now it was her turn to blink at him.

He sighed and stood up; he went toward his nightstand and pulled out the ring he had specifically for her. He held the box in his hands as he returned to her. She eyed it suspiciously and curiously and when he opened it, her eyes widened, and she gasped. "Deonna, you are my mate, and I would do anything for you. I would do anything to protect myself, even if it meant hurting those around me. I don't want it to be like that, but I can't help it when it comes to you. I've known from the moment I saw you that you were special. I tried to deny my feelings for you for as long as I could, but I can't deny it anymore. I love you, Deonna. You are me fated mate and will always want you."

She sucked in a deep breath as he knelt on the ground.

"Deonna, will you do me the honors of becoming my wife?" He asked.

"Marlon..." she whispered; he stared into her dark green eyes and there was something in them he didn't recognize. She was thinking about it for a long while before she gasped and held onto her stomach. "My water just broke."
