I was gone before he could say anything more. I wasn't sure if I even knew how to turn into a full wolf, but I knew I had to try; I needed to find my son. I could feel him, and I knew he was still alive. My body was shaking as I ran; I couldn't remember the last time I

actually ran like this. I hadn't had the willpower to run this fast in a long time.

I spent so long being trapped by chains and now I was free; I was actually free. I felt freer than ever. My wolf was exploding with excitement as we stepped outside. I felt the cold breeze on my features, and it felt different than it had since I left the commoner village. This was the air that now belonged to me; I was free.

I leaped through the garden, I took in a breath and told my wolf to come forth to me. I felt my body transitioning messily. I felt my bones forming into the shape of a wolf and I braced myself for the pain that was about to come with it. I screamed and stopped running as my body transformed itself.

The first transformation was always the toughest, I understood that and was prepared for it. But I didn't have the time to wallow in the pain. I fell to the ground on all fours as my body continued shifting; I could hear my wolf howling in excitement from deep within me. She was louder than ever.

I screamed out in agony as my dark fur came through my body; I heard the gasps of some of the maids nearby as they watched me transform into my wolf form. They were shocked to see that I was loose; even Beatrice's eyes were wide with wonder as I completed my transformation.

My body still ached from the new movement of my bones throughout my limbs, but I didn't have the time to wallow in this pain. I had my son to save.

Giving the others one last look, I leaped through the rest of the garden and pas them. Some of the maids were calling after me to stop, but that only made me run faster. I ran through the manor grounds as fast as I could, which wasn't as fast as I thought I could travel considering I was now in my full wolf form. But it was an unused wolf form, and I was already weak from years of being a prisoner slave, so it made sense that it wasn't strong.

I ran through the guarded gates; they watched me run past them and over the gates, towards the wooded forest. Marlon must have told them to let me go because nobody came after me.

I reached the forest quickly and was running through it; my senses were heightened. My wolf kept getting distracted by the many sounds we were hearing as we continued running. I could smell the scents of the animals that were taking cover as we ran past them. My mouth was watering at the scent of the fresh flesh that roamed nearby. I hadn't had fresh flesh since my days at the commoner village with my parents. Even then, it was hardly fresh. It was meat that my mother and father would bring home and allow me to munch on.

Once I left the commoner village and was forced to stay on the slave farm, I only knew the taste of rotten and old flesh. There was nothing fresh about anything they fed us. Then at the manor, all we ate were fruits and vegetables and occasionally old meat that was already munched on; not that I'm complaining. It was a lot better than the food they fed us on the slave farm.

As I continued running my mind kept thinking about Mateo. I knew he was alive; I couldn't explain how but I could still feel him as though he was right next to me. My wolf knew exactly where I could find him. She was still connected to him somehow and was guiding me to where he was.

I didn't question her, I allowed her to guide me. But she kept saying that we needed to move quickly before it was too late.

We ran through another kingdom, and I could hear the screams of some of the people that resided in that kingdom. They were gasping, gawking, and screaming at the sight of a dark-fur wolf running full speed through their kingdom.

I ran towards their woods, and I could hear the faint sounds of a creek a few miles north. Near that creak, I could hear the sounds of another wolf. He was feeding; with that wolf, there were the sounds of a crying baby.

Alex and Mateo.

Alex was getting annoyed with Mateo and kept growling at him. I wondered why he hadn't just killed him yet. Whatever he was planning, he was going to the creak to do it.

I wasn't sure what I was going to do as I reached them, but I wasn't going to allow him to hurt my son. Anger was coursing through me the quicker I ran and the louder they got.

This meant I was getting closer.

I broke through the opening of the woods and landed nearby the creek where I saw Alex and Mateo near the creak as well. Alex had blood on him from when he just fed, and Mateo was crying on a blanket nearby the edge of the creak. He was planning on drowning Mateo to hide the body. "Alex!!!" I hissed.

He turned; his eyes wide with shock as I lunged toward him. Before he had a chance to pick Mateo up, I was already on top of him. I bit my teeth as hard as I could into the side of his neck. He growled and swung his claws, slicing through the flesh of my face.

I fell to my side as he gained the upper hand and flung himself on top of me; his teeth were large and bearing down on top of me, he was about to sink his teeth into my shoulder blade, but I managed to turn in time and block myself from his blow.

I had no idea where this newfound strength came from; maybe it was my motherly love but whatever it was and wherever it came from; I wasn't going to let it go for granted. I bit into his arm and ripped out some of his fur in my bite; he used his bottom claws to kick my legs from underneath and make me fall to my back again. I felt the pain of my wolf transformation surging through me; I hadn't fully recovered from that yet.

I groaned in pain which was a huge mistake because he could see my weakness from that groan. I saw a smile spread across his wolf mouth and humor dancing in his eyes as she remained on top of me.

"Deonna, do you really think you can defeat me?" He laughed.

"I won't let you hurt my son," I hissed through gritted teeth.

This only made him laugh again, which sent a wave of chills down my spine and anger boiling through my face.

"Your son should have never been born in the first place. It was a mistake. He was a mistake," Alex said, motioning to Mateo was still crying over at the river's edge.

I growled again and swiped at his face; I was surprised I actually made a good enough contact where I drew blood from his features. However, I could see the anger flashing in his eyes and he lunged toward me again. I yelled out in pain as he bit into my ear and used his other claws to scratch through my face.

Soon, another wolf came into view. She was a blonde wolf with a dazzling blue gaze and her eyes were locked on Mateo.

Petra.

How did she get loose?

My heart was beating heavily against my chest as I fought with Alex to release me, but he was keeping me pinned down to a point where I was having trouble moving from under him.

"No!!!" I screamed.

She paused momentarily to look at me; there was playfulness dancing in her eyes as she saw me struggling under Alex.

I used my claws to claw his leg and watched him recoil slightly in pain; that was enough to loosen his grip on me and for me to kick him till he was on me. At least long enough for me to break free from him. "Get the kid, you idiot!!" Alex growled at her.

She snapped out of her playful state and target Mateo; she lunged toward him and I lunged toward her.

"Noooo!!!" I screamed.

Before I could reach her another silver figure came into view. Another wolf that I recognized and wasn't sure what to make of his presence just yet.

He was ignoring everyone as he ran towards the creak; he paid no attention to Alex and he paid no attention to me. His sight was on Petra.

I paused for a moment as I watched Bob leap over my head and attack Petra. He bit her neck so hard that I could hear the impact his teeth made through her flesh. I heard her choking as blood splattered from her small wolf figure.

It didn't take much for her to fall back into the creek; blood fell out of her small body and splattered around the surrounding area.

I knew right away that she was dead; I was in awe of what just happened.

He was standing in front of Mateo who was still crying, but alive, by the creak. He was facing Alex, a growl on his face.

He was ready to continue fighting.
