She couldn't explain what was happening to her wolf. Every time she was near Bob, her wolf would start howling uncontrollably. The unbelievable tug she was feeling was unbearable and she wanted it to stop. She wouldn't allow for her wolf to be feeling such things for a nobleman's son. They were racists and they destroyed her entire life. They killed her family and put her on a slave farm. Just because Deonna found it to forgive them and fall in love with one, didn't mean she needed to forgive them too. She couldn't get the look of her parent's out of her mind. The bullet through their heads and their remains splattered across the dirt wooded grounds for the forest.

She was too young and ever time she closed her eyes, she could still see them. Even though it wasn't the Roessler's who especially killed her family, they were still grouped. She couldn't forgive their part in their deaths.

Bob was no different. She knew the type of wolf Bob was. She wanted no part of that. Then again, he's lived in his brother's shadow for a long time. He confided in her about his past and his relationship with his brother, Alex.

He described Alex as the type of guy who got Bob out of trouble most of the time. Bob explained that Alex was the smart one of the two; he had his head on his shoulders. He was the favorite of their mother, Ashley, who died years ago. However, Alex wasn't particularly strong. He wasn't weak either though, but he wasn't strong enough to fight a battle alone and protect the kingdom.

It was because of that, that Marlon favored Bob the most. Bob wasn't book smart, but he was smart when it came to leadership. Bob was strong and the kingdom feared him yet respected him. Marlon thought of him to be perfect for the sole heir. It drove Alex crazy because of how hard he worked. He found Bob to be a threat and set out a plan to destroy Bob.

Kamala couldn't imagine what it must be like to have someone in your family out to get you. The family was meant to protect you and love you unconditionally. They were supposed to provide you with safety and comfort during tough times.

Bob must have felt alone not having his brother to support him.

She brushed the thought out of her mind; she couldn't sit there and think about Bob anymore.

Mateo began growing fussy in his crib; he had just woken up and was probably getting hungry. She grabbed one of the bottles that Deonna had left for him and took Mateo into her arms. She wasn't sure when she became Mateo's main babysitter, but she didn't mind helping. It got her mind off of things and kept her busy.

She was still adjusting to her new life in the Roessler manor. She would be lying if she said she didn't miss her time in the commoner village; she missed her job and the friends she made. They were oddly enough accepted there, with little judgment. However, she would never confess to Deonna that she missed it there. She came to the manor with Deonna because Deonna was her best friend. They were a pack and they traveled together. She promised Deonna that she would stay by her side and she wasn't going to back down from that.

She couldn't back down from that.

Mateo sat on her bed, drinking from the bottle on his own. He was getting big. He started walking a few steps at a time and was saying "dada".

She heard a tap on her door; she went to open it and saw Deonna standing there with a sheepish grin on her face. She looked tired; this was the first time in a few days that she was walking around since her heart condition left her on bed rest. Kamala smiled, relieved to see her up and about. Deonna walked into her room without saying much of anything and sat next to Mateo on the bed. Mateo chuckled as his mother greeted him.

"It feels good to walk around," Deonna said; she sounded just as tired as she looked.

"Where's Marlon?" Kamala asked.

Deonna frowned; she stared down at her hands.

"He went to Mooncrest to investigate," she answered.

Kamala could tell she was worried about him. She sat on the bed next to her.

"Marlon's strong," Kamala said, remembering how he freed the slaves and fought in that war. "He's going to be okay."

"I know," Deonna agreed. "I just hate when he leaves."

"I get that," Kamala said gently, staring down at her own hands.

Deonna stared at Kamala's face; Kamala could tell there was something else on her mind and she was hesitant to speak.

"What's wrong?" Kamala urged.

"I've been wanting to talk to you about something," Deonna said gently. Kamala waited patiently for her to continue. "I wanted to talk to you about Bob..."

Kamala frowned.

"What about him?" Kamala asked; she couldn't keep the irritation out of her voice.

"Have you noticed anything weird about him?" Deonna asked.

"I don't really know him," Kamala answered. "So, I can't really tell you."

"Oh yes, I know. I just mean, have you noticed that he hasn't stopped looking at you since you arrived?" She asked.

Kamala almost laughed at her words.

"Not really," Kamala answered. "I mean, I'm sure he does that with every lady that comes into his path."

"Yes, he's a womanizer. He enjoys getting a rise out of women..." she paused. "But it seems different with you. I'm a bit worried about it. I think it's best if you tried to stay clear from him."

Was she seriously telling her who to be around and who to not be around? She's been on her own for so long and she doesn't take lightly being told what to do. The more she thought about it, the more annoyed she was. "Pardon?" Kamala asked, standing to her feet.

"I just think it's safer that you stay away from him..." Deonna tried to explain.

"Safer for who? Me? Or you?" Kamala asked, her voice rising.

Deonna frowned, staring around her face with concern on her expression.

"For you, Kamala. I don't trust him," Deonna explained.

"I'm sorry, but didn't he save your life? More than once?" Kamala asked, sounding annoyed.

"Yes, but..." Deonna tried to say.

"You don't get to tell me who to talk to..." Kamala argued.

"I know, but Kamala..." Deonna tried to say again.

"I think you should leave," Kamala said, folding her arms across her chest. Deonna's mouth dropped open as she stared at her friend with dismay. "Take Mateo if you'd like. But I would like to be alone."

Kamala knew she should probably stay away from Bob considering how her wolf was responding to him whenever he was nearby. Plus, with her wandering thoughts on him, it was best that they didn't go near one another. But she didn't like the fact that Deonna was trying to tell her what to do. Deonna was not her superior and she refused to make Deonna believe that she was. If she wanted to go near Bob, she would. If she wanted to stay away from him, she would as well. But not because Deonna told her to. It would be because she wanted to on her own terms.

She wasn't sure why she was getting so defensive over the matter; she felt as if her emotions weren't being controlled by her person, but by her wolf.

"Kamala..." Deonna breathed; she had sadness on her expression. Kamala almost felt bad about her outburst. "I just want to protect you."

"I understand that, Deonna. I do. But I'm capable of making my own choices. I know he isn't good. I don't trust any of them. I have no desire to go near him. I only spoke to him last night because I wanted to know what was going on and..."

"You spoke to him last night?" Deonna asked, cocking her eyebrow up, confused.

Kamala frowned.

"I wanted to know who Alex and Petra were," Kamala explained.

"He was here?" Deonna asked, looking around the room.

Kamala hesitated.

"Not exactly," she answered.

Deonna looked at her again; her eyes widening.

"You went to his room?" Deonna breathed.

Kamala's face reddened as she remembered sitting on Bob's bed and talking to him about his brother. She didn't need to answer for Deonna to know the answer.

"What happened?" Deonna asked.

"Nothing happened," Kamala answered honestly. "We talked about Alex. He confided in me about his past with his brother and about how Alex wanted Mateo dead. He told me that Petra wanted you dead. That was it. Then I left." "He didn't try anything?" Deonna asked. "He didn't try to get you into bed?"

"I mean, I sat on his bed," Kamala explained. "But he didn't try to do anything. We just talked. Honest."

Kamala could tell that was surprising to Deonna.

She didn't want to talk about it anymore though; she just wanted to be alone. Deonna could tell she was done with the conversation and stood up to leave. But before she walked out the door, she turned back to Kamala. "I also wanted to tell you I'm pregnant."
