Alpha’s Black Furred Slave Mate -
Chapter 77
"What do you mean you're leaving for North-Valley?" I asked, staring up at Marlon with dismay written all over my face.
He sighed as he adjusts his gold-encrusted armor.
"I have to find out at the duke's castle," Marlon told me.
"It could be dangerous," I pouted.
"Which is why you can't come," Marlon said with a chuckle.
Prior I had asked him if I could go with him. He basically looked at me and laughed. I just don't feel comfortable with him going without me. But I knew he wasn't going to be alone; he was taking some of his guards with him. Some of the guards were still on the side of the Roessler's. There weren't many left, but the ones that remained were fairly loyal, surprisingly.
"Please be careful," I begged of him.
He came over to the bed and kissed the top of my head.
"I'm always careful," he teased. "Bob will be around if you need anything."
"Speaking of Bob, did you get a weird vibe between him and Kamala the other day?" I asked.
He frowned.
"Bob has always been weird around women," Marlon answered. "Regardless of their fur color."
"I know..." I breathed. "But it seemed different this time."
"Different how?" Marlon asked, raising his eyebrows.
"I don't know. Like he couldn't look away from her," I answered. "It just felt different."
"I wouldn't think too much about it," Marlon said gently. "Bob just likes to get a rise out of people."
I nodded. I knew that. But it still felt different. It wasn't something I could explain.
I made a mental note to check in with Kamala soon to make sure she was okay.
"If it makes you feel any better, I'll talk to Bob before I leave. I'll make sure he stays away from her," Marlon offered.
I smiled my thanks to him.
He kissed the top of my head before leaving the room.
(Bob)
There was something about her he couldn't shake. He had her in his room and he didn't even try anything against her. That wasn't his normal style.
She sat on his bed and peered up at him with her big green eyes; a timid smile on her face as he confided in her about the troubles with his brother. She sat and listened without judgment. He wasn't used to someone listening to him in such away. "Thank you for telling me all this," she breathed softly before she left.
He nodded; he couldn't think of anything more to say.
As he lay out on his bed, he couldn't stop thinking about her. He wasn't supposed to be feeling this type of way towards a dark-furred wolf. He never felt this way about anybody now that he thought about it. He typically used women for s*x; he never cared about who he hurt. But Kamala was different. He didn't want to hurt her, and he didn't want to use her.
He wasn't sure what he wanted to do with her, but it wasn't natural for him to be feeling this way about her. She left his room hours ago and he was still lying on his bed thinking about her.
Before he had the chance to think about anything else or do anything else, his door swung open. Marlon stood before him; he was wearing his golden armor which meant he was getting ready to fight. Bob shot up from his bed, alert. He was ready to grab his own armor to accompany his father in a fight.
"Where are we going?" Bob asked as he went to his armory closet.
His father shot his hand up, halting him in his tracks.
"I'm going to North-Valley. I'm investigating the castle," Marlon explained. "I need to figure out what Petra is up to."
Bob frowned.
"Let me go with you, father," Bob said as he continued to his closet.
"I have some men coming with me already. I need you to stay here to keep an eye on things," Marlon ordered.
Bob's frown deepened as he stopped walking again. He was growing more aggravated with his father by the day. Once again, he was put on babysitting duty. Every time something big went down, he was expected to stay behind and care for Deonna and Mateo. He used to be his father's right-hand wolf. He was the strong one and was more useful on the battlefield.
But now he was only good for babysitting.
It wasn't fair.
"Father..." Bob tried to protest but Marlon shot his hand up to silence him.
"Not up to for discussion," Marlon shot back. "We need to talk about something though."
Bob shot his eyebrows up and nodded. He couldn't think of anything his father would want to talk about.
Did he do something wrong?
"Okay?" Bob said, hesitantly.
"I need you to stay away from that new dark one," Marlon said firmly. Bob's eyes widened. "I don't need you harassing or complicating things for Deonna. You are making her nervous and she doesn't need that right now."
Bob cocked his eyebrow up; there was something he wasn't telling him.
"What's going on?" Bob asked.
"Nothing. I just can't have her being stressed right now," Marlon answered, turning away.
"Because of her heart condition, right?" Bob asked, eyeing his father closely.
Marlon hesitated before answering.
"Right," he finally answered.
"Father?" Bob urged.
Marlon sighed and turned back to his son. Bob saw something in his eyes that he wasn't recognized, and it worried him.
Something was definitely going on.
"She's pregnant," Marlon spoke after a long pause.
Bob's mouth fell open.
Deonna was pregnant again? They were going to have another cross-bred baby? This wasn't happening. Bob didn't even know what to say in response to his father; he just stared at him dumbfounded.
"It wasn't planned," Marlon said in his defense, staring around his son's face. "It was just something that happened. But we are going to have another baby."
"You are keeping it?" Bob found himself asking.
Marlon nodded.
"Yes," he answered. "We are keeping it."
"This king is going to have you killed if he finds out," Bob argued.
The king barely lets Mateo live as is; if he finds out that they are having yet another baby, there is no way he would let any of them live. Keeping this baby was selfish. It was going to put this entire manor and estate in jeopardy. "I will deal with the king," Marlon told him.
"Like you dealt with him before? You hardly got off scratch-free, father," Bob shot back. "Do you really think you can stop him from killing you, again?"
"I will figure something out when the time comes. The baby isn't due for a while. The king doesn't need to know anything right now and I'd prefer it if we kept it that way," Marlon said as he began walking towards the door again. "How do you expect to keep her pregnancy at bay? If Petra really is back..." Bob tried to argue.
"That's why I'm going to Mooncrest. I need to figure out what she's planning and why she's back," Marlon explained. Before he walked out the door he paused and turned back to Bob, only for a moment. "But seriously, son. Stay away from Kamala. I don't need you making things more complicated."
Bob sighed; he wanted to argue more. But he knew it was probably best to stay away from her anyway. With the way he was feeling towards her, it was best for everybody if he kept his distance. There was no telling what would happen if he allowed himself to get close to her.
