She felt she couldn't breathe for a long time. She was falling into the oasis of nothingness. Darkness enclosing around her and the words of her friends were fading away. She didn't know what was happening or where she was. She only knew that she wasn't where she was once was. A lot of what she thought about was Bob. She wasn't sure why he was always on her mind, but she thought about him being with her. His touch and the way he felt when he was by her side. The way her wolf felt when they were together. It was something she had never felt before and it was something she never wanted to not feel again.

Her wolf was strong when he invaded her mind. Her hazy pink aura illuminated her skin and enlightened her features. She felt freer and more alive. She felt as if she could finally be herself. She's only known him for a short while, but she wanted him more than anything. She needed him.

At that moment, she knew more than anything that he was her mate.

She sat in the abyss of darkness with her knees pressed against her chest and tears running down her features. She was always the strong one; during her time on the slave farm, she was the strong one. She kept Deonna together and she made sure everything was alright for all of them. She was the strong one and now she was allowing herself to fall apart before her eyes.

She hated herself for that.

A hazy white late appeared before her and a woman stepped through the light. She wasn't someone that she recognized; she had a small figure with a long white dress that covered her feet and trailed off behind her reminding Kamala of a wedding dress. Her hair was sleek and blond, draping over her shoulders and caressing her back like melted caramel. Her eyes were a deep blue with long lashes that she batted as she continued walking closer.

Her features were fair, but she had pink upper cheekbones that went across her nose and brightened her already radiant features. Her lips were plump but also pink and turned upward into a pleasant smile, revealing a row of sharp and white teeth. "Kamala," the woman breathed as she stopped walking.

She stared at Kamala with such admiration and love in her eyes; it was something Kamala didn't recognize. Kamala opened her mouth to say something, but no words came out of her mouth. For some reason she found herself trusting this woman; her wolf trusted this woman.

She didn't want to turn away and run, she wanted to stick around and find out what this woman wanted from her.

"Who are you?" Kamala found herself asking after a breath of silence.

The woman chuckled and took one steady step closer.

"I am the moon goddess, Nyx," the woman spoke in a soft tone that sent warmth through Kamala's body.

Kamala's eyes widened. Of course, she had heard about the moon goddess. The moon goddess was in control of everything. She was the woman that they prayed to each night, and she was the woman that gave the wolves their full strengths during the full moon. She was everything to a werewolf, but she was also a myth.

Kamala could have never guessed that the moon goddess could be real. It was unreal that she was standing in front of her in such a casual setting.

That thought prompted Kamala to stare around her settings to figure out where exactly she was. She frowned as she realized she wasn't really anywhere.

Kamala looked back at the woman who was staring at her with admiration in her eyes.

"Where are we?" Kamala asked, trying to keep her tone even and not reveal how freaked out she actually was.

"Between your world and the heavens," Nyx answered, still with a pleasant smile.

Kamala frowned, a panicked expression crossing her face.

"Am I dead?" Kamala asked, her words getting caught in her throat.

Nyx widened her eyes, but then she chuckled lightly.

"Goodness no," Nyx chuckled. "You aren't quite ready to die yet."

"Then, why am I here?" Kamala asked, standing to her feet quickly.

"Because I summoned you here," Nyx answered matter of factly.

Kamala folded her arms across her chest and leaned back slightly so she could take a look at the woman before her. None of this was making any sense. Who was this woman? And why did she want to meet with Kamala? "Why?" Kamala asked, staring at the goddess before her.

"Because you are needed for something much more than you realize. I'm here to guide you on that journey," Nyx answered vaguely.

Kamala hated vague, but she wasn't about to argue with a goddess.

"I don't understand," Kamala said softly, she was trying to recall the previous events. "My neck was snapped. I should be dead..."

"No," Nyx told her gently. "It only appeared like you should be dead. His intent was never to kill you. Only to provide fear to his brother."

"Why would killing me give Bob fear?" Kamala asked, confused.

Nyx smiled to herself and looked down for a moment; she didn't have to answer that question for Kamala to know the answer. She knew already.

"Oh..." Kamala breathed as she realized that Alex could sense that Kamala was Bob's mate. "How did he make it look like I died?"

"A potion he found in the duke's castle," Nyx answered. "It prevents a wolf from dying within a certain timeframe. He injected you with it before snapping your neck."

Kamala felt the puncture wound on the nape of her neck, remembering the sting it provided her before she felt weakened, and then everything went black. She thought the pain was due to her neck-snapping, but it was because he injected her with some kind of "So, I'm going to wake up?" Kamala asked.

serum.

Nyx nodded once.

"Yes, and soon," she answered. "But first, I needed to speak with you."

"About what?" Kamala asked.

"About your purpose."

"My purpose?" Kamala urged. "What does that mean?"

"You are more powerful than you think, Kamala. You have a gift that not many have and it's a gift that needs to be used soon," Nyx explained.

A small crease appeared between Kamala's brows as she allowed that information to process. She wasn't a fan of riddles and she didn't like how this goddess wasn't being straight with her.

"I don't understand," Kamala said after a breath of silence.

"I know," Nyx said softly. "But you will soon."

"I don't like riddles," Kamala shot back. "Can you tell me what exactly is going on and what I'm needed for?"

Nyx hesitates for a moment.

"You have a power that can break and banish dark magic," Nyx explained. "It's a rare gift to have, but it's something that proves to be useful in the future."

"Break and banish dark magic?" Kamala asked, still confused.

"Yes," Nyx answered. "You can break the darkest of dark magic spells and banish the powers to a new realm. Away from your world."

"I don't understand," Kamala breathed. "How is that useful for us? How did I get this power?"

"Because your mother was a sorcerer. Before she died, she transferred her powers into you and turned you into a sorcerer as well," Nyx explained. "It's useful because Petra had gotten her hands on dark magic. It's how she plans on defeating you and your friends. It's how she's keeping the nobleman, Marlon, locked away in the castle. Dark magic."

Kamala's eyes widened in shock; she couldn't believe what she was hearing. That Petra chick was using dark magic? What was she planning on doing with that magic and how did she get her hands on it in the first place. There were so many questions that were going through her mind and she wasn't sure how much more time they had.

"How..." Kamala began to ask but she couldn't figure out what question to ask first.

"No need to fret," Nyx said softly, with a kind smile that melted Kamala's heart. "Answers will be revealed to you in due time. I promise. But for right now, your friends need you."

"How do I know how to unlock my gift? I don't exactly have a manual," Kamala asked, folding her arms across her chest.

Nyx chuckled.

"No, but you have your wolf. Your wolf knows everything you'll need to know. Now that I've reminded your wolf of your destiny and what it's capable of. You don't need to worry any longer. Just follow your wolf and allow it to guide you," Nyx explained. Kamala shook her head, refusing to believe any of what was being said to her.

"I don't understand any of this," Kamala said, aggravated.

"I know. But you will. But for right now, you need to wake up. Once you are up, you'll know what you need to do. But to stir you in the correct direction, you need to find your way to Marlon. Get him free," Nyx instructed.

Her image began getting less clear the more she spoke. Kamala realized that Nyx was beginning to walk backward and closer to the light. Her image was becoming blurry and distorted.

"Wait..." Kamala called after her. "How do I know I'm going in the right direction?"

A small smile appeared on Nyx's lips and her soft words flowed to her easily, caressing against her ear as if she was whispering to her directly.

"Trust me," she whispered. "You'll know."
