Alpha’s Black Furred Slave Mate -
Chapter 90
She's alive.
Bob couldn't hide the relief he felt on his face; he stared at Kamala who was sitting on the ground, she was gasping for air, trying to obtain as much of it as she could. Deonna was wrapping her arms around her body and pulling her close to her chest. Tears flooded down Deonna's features. He wanted to run to her as well and embrace her, but he had to address his brother who was staring at Kamala with dismay. He probably wasn't expecting her to wake so soon; the annoyance rose in Bob's chest.
Bob wondered how much of the conversation Deonna heard. Bob wasn't actually planning on keeping his father in the castle and allowing Alex to take over the estate. But he would have said anything to keep Kamala safe. He just wanted to get Kamala to safety before he figured out what to do with his brother.
He was hoping Deonna understood that and didn't take his words to heart. She should know by now that Bob can't be that easily persuaded.
Deonna glanced up, instead of looking at Alex she was staring at Bob. Her eyes questioning and doubt was clear on her face. She looked as though she no longer trusted him.
"Get her to safety," Bob ordered, peeling his eyes away from Deonna's gaze and staring back at his brother.
Alex grinned and folded her arms across his chest.
"Last time I left, you let him go," Deonna said, standing to her feet.
Kamala struggled to stand as well; she used Deonna's arm as leverage and then the side of Deonna's body to keep her balance. She was staring around the surrounding areas looking confused. Many questions were spreading across her face but they didn't have time to answer anything right now.
"You need to trust me..." Bob said between his gritted teeth.
Deonna scoffed.
"Trust you? After what I just heard you say?" Deonna asked, her eyes drilling into the side of Bob's face.
He had to admit that it stung him knowing she didn't trust him. He hoped that it didn't affect how Kamala felt toward him; however, she felt toward him.
"What do you mean?" Kamala asked her, her voice sounding raspy. Like it pained her to speak. She rubbed her aching throat, clearing it in the process. "What's going on?"
"There's no time to explain. But you need to get out of here," Bob ordered them, louder.
Deonna took a step closer to him.
"We need to get your father out of that castle," Deonna said in a low and angry tone.
This only made Alex laugh; Deonna was about to ruin everything.
"Marlon?" Kamala asked in wonder as she stared up into the sky. She looked curious for a long while; confusion still clear on her face but realization struck her suddenly. "She's right. We need to get to the castle."
"You need to go!!" Bob growled to them; Deonna flinched and took a step away from him. He realized his wolf's head was revealing through his human face; his features darkening, and his fury was clear as day. Even Kamala looked frightened at his appearance. After a breath of silence, Deonna draped her arms through Kamala's arms and pulled her towards the forest. They said nothing as they disappeared.
Now it was only Alex and Bob, the two brothers standing face to face.
"I did my part, you do yours," Alex demanded. "I let her go. Now, I want the kingdom."
"And if I refuse?" Bob asked.
Alex's eyes widened.
"This was your plan? To lie to me to get me to let her go? Then you take back your word? Father was right, you are a fit leader," Alex scoffed. "No worries. I already anticipated that you would lie your way out of it. I wasn't serious," Alex added. "What does that mean?"
"Do you really think I dragged you all out here just to release her and be on my way?" Alex laughed.
Bob's frown deepened as he let Alex's words weigh him down. It was a distraction, a ruse. Of course, it was obvious. But what kind of distraction was this? What was he planning?
"Where's Petra?" Bob finally asked, eyeing his brother suspiciously.
Alex laughed even harder.
"Fulfilling her obligations to me," Alex answered, humor still dancing in his eyes.
"What kind of obligations, Alex," Bob demanded to know. "What are you planning?"
"Isn't it a lovely day," Alex said, grinning.
"Alex..." Bob warned.
"A great day for the king to visit," Alex said.
The king? Alex wasn't making any sense and it was infuriating.
"What are you getting at?" Bob asked.
"Petra's been hard at work at the manor while we've been gone. Getting it ready for the king's visit this afternoon," Alex explained. "He's going to be quite surprised that father let the castle go to shambles. Most of the help is gone. Father is nowhere to be seen and probably will never come back. Their son has been helping father harvest slaves as lovers in the manor and protecting them. Meanwhile, I've been busy picking up the pieces of North-Valley. What's the king going to think?"
This was a setup. Alex was setting them all up.
"The king would never fall for something like that," Bob said, his quivering tone giving away his fear.
"Wouldn't he though?" Alex chuckled. "Last I checked, Deonna and Mateo were meant to be killed, but they were broken out of the king's castle. Technically they are fugitives, as is father. It's been brushed under the rug, but I don't think that makes father on his good side at the moment."
"Why are you doing this?" Bob asked, fear rising in his chest.
"Because you have what I want and it's the only way I can get it, brother. I never wanted it to come to this. But you've left me no other choice. Now, you can either kill me and spend the rest of your days either in the king's prison or be killed by the king, or you can go and save your precious dirtball. Because as soon as the king sees her, it'll be over for her," Alex warned. He stared up at the sky for a moment before looking back at Bob. "And by the looks of it, it's almost time for the king to arrive. They might even arrive at the manor around the same time."
Bob didn't waste much more time; he knew that Alex was right. He could waste his time fighting and killing Alex, but that wouldn't protect Kamala and that wouldn't protect the manor. At this point, he had to choose what his next steps were, and he knew he couldn't stay at the river's creek much longer.
Without another word, he transitioned into his wolf's form. He allowed the strength of his wolf to roam free and his howl echoed through the forest, bouncing off each of the trees as he roamed through the forest. He wasn't sure if Alex was following him, he didn't care. He needed to get to the castle before the king did. He needed to protect Kamala.
Fury was rising through him; he was angry. He wanted blood on his paws and flesh in his teeth. He wanted to rip Alex's throat out for putting Kamala and the others in danger. This was never supposed to go down like this. Bob was once the wolf that enjoyed getting a rise out of people and he was the one who made the messes that Alex cleaned. Now it seemed as if he was cleaning up Alex's mess for once.
This was not a mess he wanted to clean though. He just wanted to protect what was his and at that moment, Kamala was his. Whether she knew it or accepted it or not, she was his and he wasn't going to let anything happen to her.
He was relieved when he saw Deonna and Petra at the entrance of the manor. They must have just gotten back; they traveled in their human forms for most of the way so Bob knew they would be a little slower. The king hadn't arrived yet.
Kamala looked tired and Deonna was staring curiously around for a moment. It was obvious she was wondering where the guards were. Bob couldn't help but wonder the same thing, but he didn't have time to stand around and be curious about it. He could feel the king's presence approaching and he was approaching quickly. His scent was getting stronger with each passing moment, and he could almost hear the speed of the king's wolf roaming through the busy streets of Mooncrest. "You need to go into hiding," Bob growled to them as he approached.
They turned and looked startled, Deonna's eyes were wide and alert. It was obvious she still didn't trust him, but he didn't have time to argue.
"The king is heading here and will be here any second," Bob warned them. "I don't have time to explain. You need to go."
Deonna gave him one looks over and then looked at Kamala.
Kamala, who was staring at Bob with dismay and worry in her eyes, gave him a head nod. She turned to Deonna.
"We need to get to the castle," Kamala told her.
