Alpha’s Black Furred Slave Mate -
Chapter 95
I nearly fell as I ran into the room that Petra and Marlon were hidden within. She was holding a gun to him, and she looked completely unstable. We had gotten here in time to hear him try and reason with her. What he was saying was true; Alex wasn't intending on doing anything with Petra. He had told us Petra was just his maid and fulfilling the tasks that he orders of her. It might have been a distraction, but telling from Alex's eyes, he didn't feel any romantic connection towards her. He certainly wasn't planning on marrying her and letting her rule the kingdoms alongside him.
She didn't know that though. She was so convinced that Alex was in love with her that she was willing to kill to do what he wants.
I glanced over at Kamala to make sure she was still nearby; she was a bit wobbly after breaking through the shield. It took a lot out of her to the point where she was actually crying blood. Thankfully Bob was there to literally knock her out of it; which also knocked her to the ground. But at least she snapped out of it and was no longer in that trance.
She was breathless and she looked exhausted; her features were pale and she looked as if she was about to fall over any moment. I kept close to her in case she did fall over; that way I could catch her. But she used the edge of the door as leverage to keep her balance and she watched as Bob stormed into the room and towards Petra.
"Alex isn't going to marry you, Petra," Bob said as he stopped in the center of the room.
Her eyes were large and alert. For once in her life, she was actually speechless. I couldn't tell if she believed him or not but I could see how wobbly her hand was. Part of me didn't think she wanted to shoot. "You're lying," she said, her voice going hoarse.
Bob shook his head slowly.
"No, I'm not," he promised her. "As my father said, he's using you. He only ever cared about himself. He just wants the power and he doesn't care who he hurts to get it. Look at what he's doing to his own family. You have to see that he isn't a good guy." "What makes you think I'm so good myself?" Petra asked.
"I don't," Bob told her honestly; his words seemed to surprise us all. "I don't think you're good. But I also know that you've always loved my father and you always wanted to rule by his side. You want power too and I get that. But this isn't going to get you power. This will get you sent to the king's prison and then eventually death. Do you think Alex is going to be around to help you?"
Her breathing was shaky; she looked from Bob to Marlon and then over to me. Her eyes stilled for a few moments as she assessed my face; weighing everything Bob was saying to her. I agreed with Bob, he was right about Alex not caring about anything other than himself. He was right that he wasn't going to marry Petra and that once he was done with her he was just going to toss her aside like an old useless rag.
If she did go through with killing Marlon, the king would surely find out what she had done and everything that lead up to this moment. He wouldn't stand for something like that happening under his nose. Plus, Marlon seemed to have the queen on his side. Which reminded me that I still didn't fully know the extent of their relationship and if we got out of this alive I made a mental note to ask him about it later.
But the queen wouldn't allow something like this to happen as well. Petra would be imprisoned and then sentenced to death. All of this would be for nothing and she would just look stupid.
She had to know whatever they were planning, wasn't going to work out in their favor.
Petra pulled her eyes away from me and looked over at Marlon.
"It's too late," she said softly. "I already destroyed so much of the manor and forced the other workers out. I didn't kill any of them, but they all know what I did. The king is most likely there now with Alex discussing the possibility of him taking over the estate. They all think you either abandoned the kingdom or are dead. Everything has been set in motion."
I knew that to be true, but that didn't mean we couldn't still stop everything from going down. But we needed to get out of the castle and back to Mooncrest. We needed to get to the king and explain everything that has happened.
"We need to stop Alex," Bob said, reading my thoughts. "We have to go back to Mooncrest and stop him from whatever he's doing and saying to the king. We need to explain everything that's happened. But for that to work, I need all of us to be on the same page. That includes you, Petra."
She thought about it for a moment and eventually she lowered the gun; we all sighed in relief and she dropped the gun to the ground.
Marlon made a move to grab the gun and keep it away from her; he unlatched the trigger and placed the gun in his back pocket.
Before I could stop myself, I was running into his arms. He wrapped his arms around me and I pressed my face against his chest; I let out a small sob that I was holding in the entire day. My body trembling against his; I was shaking uncontrollably. I was so relieved that he was alright but at the same time, I felt so tired and weak.
I could hardly imagine how Kamala was feeling at that moment.
I never wanted to let Marlon go again. I had missed him so much.
I felt his warmth on the top of my head as he pressed his lips against my hair and down my narrow features until he found my lips. I breathed him in, soaking in his sweet scent and tender lips. His embrace filled me with so much warmth and love; I couldn't believe he was the man I was having a family with. Mateo and then another child on the way.
He was my mate, and I was his; I vowed to never take that for granted again.
"What's going to happen to me?" Petra asked, her voice was soft and hardly audible.
We all glanced over at her; she wasn't looking at any in particular; she was staring down at her feet and looking defeated.
"Let's not worry about that right now," Marlon told her. "But now we need to return to Mooncrest and save my kingdom. It's us against Alex; if we work together, he won't win. Are you with us? Or are you against us?"
She thought about it for a moment before sighing out in defeat. She glanced up at him; meeting his eyes briefly.
"I'm with you," she said, a faint smile appearing on her lips.
