Eda

I sit by myself in my room. I feel frustrated and numb. Even though it's dinner time, I'm unaffected by hunger. My mind continues to race as I think about Osborn.

After being kissed like that... I don't know if I could live without him. I truly want to believe that I would be able to be happy with just Peelle, but I don't know if that's true.

Peelle gives me everything I could want; he's the sweet best friend type of guy and I know he cares deeply for me. Meanwhile, Osborn is the closed off one that seems to be brewing with dominance and passion. There's a knock on my door and I'm not surprised by the scent of cinnamon. It's Peelle.

I open the door and force a smile, but he can see right through me. He asks, "Are you okay?"

I nod, "I'm fine, Peelle."

He crosses his arms and I notice the ripples of his muscles underneath his shift. He says sternly, "I don't believe you."

I breathe out as I shake my head, "I don't want to talk about it."

"Then, let's not talk. How about we go for a walk and get some fresh air?"

Peelle holds his hand out to me and looks at me with hopeful eyes. Butterflies flutter through my stomach as I take his hand and feel the tingles erupt through my body.

We walk outside together, and I love that he respected me enough to not force me to talk. Maybe even if Osborn does reject me, it won't be so bad.

Of course, I don't want that, but I'm happy with Peelle. The moon goddess has a plan, I have to trust that she knows what she's doing.

One Month Later.

A month has passed, but not much has changed. Osborn is still as aloof as ever, Peelle still dotes on me and makes me feel loved and appreciated, and Alita and I have grown close.

I've never really had a friend before, but having Alita is really nice. She doesn't make me feel weird for my lack of education, she never questions when I say I don't know how to do something, and she's just fun to be around.

I've even gotten close with Lauren and Laila. Laila is planning a big trip to travel soon because she still hasn't found her mate. Laila is the one closest to my age, but she's very reserved and closed off.

She doesn't come off as rude or cold it just seems like she has her walls up. Lauren on the other hand is almost always on her cellphone.

I think this is part of the reason Alita and I get along so well is because she's used to not having lots of attention.

I sit on the couch in the living room as I flip through a book, feeling grateful that my mom at least taught me how to read. Alita comes toward me and says, "Come on, let's go for a walk!"

I look at her curiously, it's rare for her to want to do anything other than play video games.

She explains, "My mom said I need more fresh air. Are you coming with me or not?"

I close my book and follow her out the door. She is happy and starts to skip, she's quite amusing.

She's a young teenager but there's times where she still acts like a little kid. But it's entertaining being around her. I follow her lead as she leads us deeper in the forest, but she alarms me when she suddenly stops walking. I ask, "Is everything alright?" She nods slowly but based on her facial expression I know she's concerned about something. She turns around and heads back the way we came, and I ask, "What's going on?"

"Shhh, quiet." She snaps at me. I quicken my pace to keep up with her. I want to ask what's happening again, but her determined gaze makes me refrain.

A hand on my arm yanks me back, but before I can cry out there's a rag over my mouth and nose and I quickly lose consciousness.

When I come to, I immediately recognize my surroundings. I'm in my old room. Master Wraith, he found me and wanted me home. I can only hope I won't receive a punishment for being gone for so long.

I gulp but refrain from moving away from my bed. The door suddenly opens, and I glance toward it and relief floods through me when I see my mother. She smiles at me and then slowly claps as she says, "Well done, my dear."

My eyebrows scrunch together as I sit up, "What are you clapping for?"

She chuckles, "You lured Alpha Evan and Claudia's daughter out for us to capture! This girl has strong elf qualities, she'll be perfect for our cause. And because you did it, I'm sure Master Wraith will reward us."

"That's why you took us? Why did you need to take us at all?!" Anger builds inside of me. I was happy there. And now I've unknowingly ruined Alita's life.

"You're unhappy that we rescued you?"

"I didn't need rescuing I was safe!" I say loudly, I'm on the verge of screaming, but I don't want to cause too much of a commotion.

She scoffs as she waves her hand dismissively, "How could you be safe with our enemies, dear? On top of that, don't you want to be free? Capturing that girl might mean our way to freedom!"

"They aren't our enemies! At least they're not mine! And Alpha Evan isn't in charge anymore, it's Alpha Osborn now. And that girl, has a name and it's Alita and she doesn't deserve this!"

She shrugs, "It doesn't matter, Osborn is his child and that means they won't accept our family. Evan made sure of that when he banished me. Do you think I deserved that? To be punished for something my father had his hands in? Sometimes the child has to pay the consequence. Alita is our ticket to freedom, Eda."

He banished her? Why?

I can't even think rationally, I'm trying so hard just to prove her wrong. I stand up and hold my arms out as I say, "Well, he accepts me, mother! I'm his mate!"

I gasp as soon as the words slip from my tongue. I shouldn't have said that.

My mom looks at me as a devious smile spread across her lips.

I messed up.
