Chapter 84

Evan

After hours of looking through footage, Claudia finally passed out. I wanted to take her to our room so that she would have a more peaceful sleep, but I knew that if I touched her, she would wake up and try to overexert herself again.

I don't blame her. I'm worried sick about our sons. I should've trusted in her when she didn't want to come to the Silver Howlers Pack. I thought she was so caught up in being a mom that she didn't want to leave the kids. I never would've imagined that something like this could've happened.

I breathe out and rub my temples as I feel a powerful headache coming on. I push away from my desk and head out the door and mind link my Beta to meet me downstairs.

Matthew Collins walks through the door and bows his head, "Alpha."

I nod back at him and ask, "Have you figured anything out?"

He nods, "I went to interview some of the people we had at the pack hospital. Two of them were also injected with something that has made them unable to shift. They were also the two that first saw the rogues and alerted the rest of patrol. One of them was more coherent than the other. He said that there was a group of people that stayed in their human form, and he could hear them talking. Alpha... they weren't here for your sons. They were here for Claudia."

"They didn't plan the attack very well then... if they had they would've known that she was with me. So, why did they grab the boys?"

"When they discovered the Luna wasn't here, they decided to go after the boys. Something about wanting elf blood."

My eyes shut as I focus on reigning in my wolf. Someone is after my wife and my children all because they are part elf. But... what would they want with their blood anyway?

It wouldn't have the same properties as a full blooded elf... why not look for a real one?

Matthew continues, "I imagine that we will receive a ransom letter at some point. Ultimately if they want elf blood then they would want Claudia since she is half elf. Both boys are only 1/4 elf."

"Has anyone been able to find anything?"

He shakes his head, "No sir, not yet."

I breathe out, "Keep me updated."

I take the heavy steps back to my office knowing that I haven't done anything to help my family. I got too cocky. I thought I was untouchable, and no one would dare to mess with my family again. And... I was wrong.

I'll never forgive myself for putting my children in a vulnerable position.

When I get into the office, I see that Claudia is awake again and staring at the screens. I ask, "Do you want some coffee?"

She nods, but her eyes don't tear away from the screen. Her body jumps slightly as she says, "Evan, look at this!"

I rush to her side and watch the scene on the screen as my two boys get surrounded. Peelle was terrified, but Osborn showed no fear. He's always been our brave child, scared of nothing and refused to let anyone see his vulnerable feelings. Claudia has always joked that he is just like me and it's like she made a carbon copy of me.

I turned up the volume from the camera feed so we can hear what they say and Osborn yells, "Stay away! My dad will kick your asses!"

Claudia doesn't even comment about Osborn cursing and instead has a small hint of a smile seeing him yell at the rogues surrounding them.

An unknown man walks over to them. He is dressed in a uniform that reminds me of the military and his dark hair is combed back. He has no facial hair, but it's hard to pick up distinguishable features from the distance of the camera to him. He kneels to Osborn's level and says, "We don't want to hurt you, Osborn."

His eyebrows furrow and the man continues, "We don't want to hurt you or your brother or your pack. But we need you to come with us. Come on, think of what a good Alpha would do. Don't you want to be like your father?"

Osborn stops and considers what he's saying. He knows he will be the next Alpha because he's the oldest. Peelle hisses, "Dad would want us to fight, Ozzy."

Osborn shakes his head, "Not if it meant the lives of our pack members."

The man smiles and holds out his hand as he asks, "Do we have a deal, Osborn?"

"On one condition... you take only me and leave my brother behind and unharmed."

Peelle yells, "Ozzy, no!"

The man shrugs, "Deal."

Osborn's face is determined as he reaches his arm out and shakes the man's hand. The man states, "Tie the other one up, but leave him unharmed."

Osborn's face scrunches up like he's unsure if he likes what they're doing to Peelle, but he doesn't speak up. It's like he's scared to compromise the arrangement.

The man puts his hand on Osborn's shoulder and leads him away and the rest of the rogues follow him. I hit the button to check the next camera so I can watch where they went off to, but there's no footage. They disappeared behind those trees and then... vanished. There's no tracks in the dirt, there's no camera footage of them anywhere.

I go back to the other camera to see where they tied Peelle at, but Claudia is already rushing toward the door to go find him.

I rush off after her as I send out a mass mind link, "Peelle is still in the forest! He is tied to a tree and has something in his mouth so he can't speak. I want him found, now!"

The moment Claudia gets outside she shifts into her wolf, Cassiel and takes off. I shift as well and chase off after her. By the time we can find Peelle there are already two pack members getting him down.

Claudia shifts and hugs him tightly and I shift and thank the pack members for getting him down. They both bow their heads before leaving and I breathe out as I move over to hug my son. I tell him, "I'm going to shift, go ahead and climb on my back and we'll get you home."

Peelle nods, but he sniffles as he looks at Claudia and says in a low voice, "They took Ozzy, mommy."

Tears fill her eyes and her voice cracks as she says, "I know, but it'll be okay. We'll get him back I promise."

He nods slowly, and I shift, and Claudia helps him get on my back and tells him, "Hold on tight."

He moves his head down and presses it against my body and grips my fur as tight as he can and I'm careful not to run too fast as we head back to the pack house. Claudia shifted and followed behind making sure that he wouldn't fall off.

By the time we got back to the pack house and went inside Raf, Leon, Ken, and Abigail were all waiting for us. Abigail looked like she was in rough shape, and I wonder if it had to do with whatever was injected in her.

Raf is holding a plate of waffles and says, "Hey P, I thought you'd be hungry."

He nods slowly as he stumbles over to her and sits down at the table to eat. He's quiet and everyone is trying not to stare at him or make a big deal out of what's going on. Ken walks over to me and passes me a stack of clothes for me and Claudia. We both throw on the clothing quickly and continue to watch our son.

Once he's done eating, he turns to face us and yawns and asks, "Mommy, can I get a bath before bed?"

She smiles, "Of course you can, love, let's go."

The two of them walk off and the others look at me. Abigail asks, "Where's Ozzy?"

I sigh as I ran a hand over my face, "He bartered with the intruders. He agreed to go peacefully as long as they left Peelle alone."

Raf shakes her head, "Such a brave kid. Too much for his own good."

I huff, "They manipulated him. They compared him to me and made him think of what I would do. They said that if he didn't cooperate then they would cause more havoc on the other pack members. He agreed under the condition that Peelle was left here and was unharmed, so they tied Peelle to a tree."

Leon asks, "Did you find anything else through the tapes?"

I shake my head no, "It's like they disappeared. Just like you said. There are no footprints or anything! I don't understand how it's possible for them to vanish."

Ken asks, "How are we supposed to find him then?"

I look back toward the staircase to make sure that Claudia and Peelle are both gone. Once I see that they are I sigh as I say helplessly, "I don't know."
