Alpha's Little Vampire Mate -
Chapter 100
Chloe's
POV:
The next day, early morning: I stretched in bed, a big yawn leaving my mouth was accompanied by a chuckle. I quickly flipped my eyes open, to see Marcus standing over me with an amused smile on his face.
"I almost thought you were going to swallow me," he teased and it was when he lowered something on the bed, that I noticed he was holding a tray in his hand. "Breakfast in bed for my lovely wife?" I asked suggestively. I would have gotten embarrassed at his former statement, but now we were gone past the stage of being embarrassed in the presence of each other. I let him help me up, a big smile on my face as I stretched my hand to the cup of coffee. "Thank you baby," I said, raising the mug to my lips. Just as I took the first sip, my stomach stirred violently and I slammed the cup back on the tray, pushing Marcus out of the way and ran over to the toilet. I fell on my knees, burying my face in it and empty out all the remains of last night.
"Take a deep breath, baby," Marcus muttered, coming behind me and helping to hold my hair out of my face. "Let it all out..."
I threw up some more, for about another two to four minutes and by the time I was done, my throat had gone dry. I collapsed onto the bathroom floor, leaning my back on the wall as I could no longer trust my strength to hold me up. I panted softly, my my eyes snapped shut.
"How do you feel?"
At the sound of his voice, my eyes peeled open, sending him a hard glare. "And what kind of stupid question is that supposed to be? Do I look alright to you?!"
His lips pursed and it looked like he was struggling not to shout at me and he had better not because with the way I was feeling, I cold pick up a bottle and smack it on his big head. After a while, he nodded stiffly. "Will just discard the coffee then, what about the pancakes?" He asked.
"Throw everything away, I don't like the smell of food," I whined, then realized what I had just said. I turned to look up at him with wide horrified eyes. "Is that normal?"
He looked confused himself and after a few seconds of indecision, he lowered himself into his knees in front of me. I let him take my face in his hand. "I think it's pretty normal, maybe it has to do with your mood?" I thought for a while, then nodded.
He sighed in relief. "So... what will you like to eat?" He asked, uncertainty laced in his tone of voice.
"Blood," I replied without even thinking. Almost immediately, a great craving for blood enveloped me and it felt like if I did not have some blood in me soon, I was going to lose it. "Give me lots and lots of blood!" Marcus's eyes were wide, then very slowly, one thick brow raised in silent questioning. "What do you need lots land lord of blood for?" He asked, sounding like I had just asked him to but me a property in the ocean. "To eat and drink," I gave him the obvious answer. "What else was I supposed to use it for?"
He nodded to himself, pinching the bridge of his nose and I was glad that he had finally realized how important that was to me. "Blood you want, I shall give you blood..."
I started to smile but he gave me a pointed look and the smile died from my lips.
"But," he started with an icy tone. "You will have to look for something else you like, like real food. I am not about to fed you off on the blood of animals only," he hesitated, his eyes flickering down to my stomach. "You need some real food in you!"
I took a deep breath, biting my tongue to hold back a retort. I let him help me off the floor and lead me back into the room. I felt extremely excited, anticipating the blood he was soon going to go get for me.
"I will be back," he muttered, dropping a kiss on my forehead.
I batted my eyes at him, feeling all warm on the inside like it was the first time he had ever kissed me. I watched his back as he left the room and just when he got to the door, there was a loud scream that came from downstairs and as the voices of people increase, so did more screams fill the air.
Marcus turned to me with wide, horrified eyes which I knew mirrored mine. I had been stilled with fear and as much as I hated to admit, my legs were trembling and had refused to move.
"What is going on," I asked.
Marcus was at my side in a flash. "Baby, I want you to just relax and I will go check what is going on downstairs and be back up in no time," I tried to assure me but I could still see the fear lingering in his eyes.
I nodded reassuringly at him and he left, closing the door behind him. I rose to. my feet immediately, walking out the door after him. There was nothing like staying back and sitting like some frail doll, when something was going on in my house.
"Oh my gods!"
I heard Marcus shout and I broke into a run towards whatever laid outside that was making everyone screaming. I shot out the other side of the door, turning to the left where all the servants had gathered and were busy looking at something on the ground. I sniffed, one the smell reached my nose and my demon bared her teeth, making my eyes glow a bright red. I shook away the feeling and moved her into the back of my mind as I walked towards the crowd, too afraid of what I will see.
"Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah!"
I did not even know I was the one screaming, until I felt Marcus's arms around. "Oh my gods! Is that Cara?" I stared in horror at the dead body in front of me, with many stab injuries all over her body. A hand slammed against my mouth, as I muffled a sob... "Whoever could do something so wicked!"
Marcus pressed my face against his shirt and I cried for Cara. Getting to know her better and how much she had passed through, made me want destroy whoever gave her such a gruesome death.
"Take the body away, and tell the undertaker to see to it," Marcus ordered, leaving me back into the house. His grip ony arm tightened painfully and I looked up into his face to see that he was furious!
Thinking I could bear through it, I kept quiet, letting him vent his pain on me but when it became unbearable, I screamed and that was when he turned to look at me. Only, his look was not the love sick look at I had started to get addicted to, but his eyes were a blue storm of rage.
He pushed open the door to our bedroom and flung me in so hard that I fell on the floor. In shock and surprise, I turned to face him immediately and he slammed the door shut behind him. "What the hell have you done?" he asked with accusation laced in his voice.
"Me?" I asked, unsure if he was referring to me or there was someone else in the room. Then, my eyes widened in fear and my heart sank, when I realized what he was trying to do. "Are you holding me responsible for Cara's death?!" He did not look sorry at all. "Who else do you think is a perfect suspect? Yesterday afternoon when you had seen Cara leave this house, I explained everything to you and told you how she had promised to stay out of our marriage but did you listen? No!" He screamed, making me shudder and I began to cry. "You still left the house so angrily and then you murdered the poor girl because of your foolish jealousy! Do you know all what she has been through?! Why can you not kept that demon of yours at bay and make use of your conscience for once!"
My body shook as I sobbed, my cries getting louder with every accusation he laid on me.
"Look here," he snapped, wagging a warning finger in my face. "It had better not be you who did such wickedness, or else, I will kill you myself!" He turned around and stomped out of the room, leaving me crying on the floor.
****
Two hours later: it was late morning. I still had not left my room, not had breakfast either and it was not like I had the appetite to even eat anything!
I kept pacing, trying to think of a way to avenge Cara, and also prove my innocence. After thinking for a good thirty minutes, it finally clicked. I knew someone who could help me, only; I was feeling too proud to ask for his help. But what did the wise ones before us say: desperate times, requires desperate measures! And before I could discourage myself, I was putting on some clothes; black clothes to be precise, because they fit the environment I was going to find myself in a few minutes.
Not wanting to create any more drama, because I suspected that the whole royal house were talking about me at the moment. I vanished instead of using the front door and appeared at my first stop. I could not wait to prove my innocence, I will never forgive Marcus for the kind of shame he had brought upon me, never!
I took a deep breath, raising my hand to knock against the wooden door and then it opened, only to be slammed in my face immediately! I was taken aback by her treatment and a severe pain spread across my chest as I realized that she also blamed me for the death of her grand daughter.
"Please, go away! I do not wish to speak to you!"
I sighed, a little breath escaped my lips. "I did not kill Cara, I promise you that I did not even get to meet her yesterday!"
"I begged you," the old lady sobbed hard, shattering my heart all over again. "I told you to forgive her that she was all I have but did you listen? No! You still took powers into your hands and killed her so brutally, my poor baby!"
I wiped off the tears that escaped my eyes, then turned around left. There was no use in talking to her because she would not listen! All I had to do was gather enough evidence and prove to them that I was guiltless of all the accusations. I took the bend of her house and vanished. This time, it took a while to teleport to my next stop, because it was a bit too far and I was quite still reluctant and my demon worked with my mood. Finally, I landed on the rock. My eyes roamed the area, to be sure that they were no watching eyes.
I walked towards the double large doors and before I raised my hand to knock, the door automatically parted open and I stepped in, this time bolder than the first time I had to sneak in through the back door. There were no guards on duty and I made my way hastily, over to the throne room.
Right there, sitting on his throne like he owned the whole world with a smirk directed at me, was my not so beloved grandfather. "Today must be a good day," he said with a teasing time. "Did someone come to see me? Or may I say, ask for my help?" Oh, hell no!
