Alpha's Little Vampire Mate
29. A voice in the ceiling.

Marcus's POV:

"Good to see you Alpha," the guard at the front gate of the jail bowed to me. He pushed open the gate, welcoming me in with the gesture of his hand. "I wasn't told you'd be coming," the guard said, his footsteps hammering against the wooden floor as he tried to keep up with me.

I knew he was trying to make small talk, but I wasn't in the mood for any of that. "Do I now take permission from you?"

I heard him inhale a sharp breath. "No Alpha! I'm sorry Alpha!"

I rolled my eyes, not bothering to reply. We continued down the long passageway, headed for the last cell on the right wing. Mark had informed me that that was where he kept Gamma Titus and he also informed me that he'd given him a good beat down.

As much as I'd like to leave him there for a longer period of time, he was needed out there and that was far more important than my blind jealousy.

I came to a halt, the guard also stopping right behind me. "Open the door, then leave us," I ordered.

The guard fumbled with a bunch of keys in his hand, then singled out a little key. I moved to the side and waited patiently as he shoved the key into the keyhole and turned it a couple of times.

The door cracked open, the guard bowed once more and marched back towards where we had come from. I looked around and once I was certain that there was no one in sight, I hurried into the cell and shut the door behind me. It was dark in here, but I could make out the silhouette of a certain someone sitting on the floor and leaning his back against the wall. I let my wolf come to the surface and my eyes began to glow a bright orange.

"Titus," I called out. I could see him clearly now and he was throwing daggers at me through his glare. I kind of admired his guts, he was unrepentant even when he knew his life was at my mercy. "Get up," I commanded in a strict voice. He grunted in annoyance, but still got off the floor. Seeing him in a better view, his face was covered in fresh bruises and some dying ones. That was proof enough that Mark had obeyed my instructions to beat him every two hours. "You look a mess," I started with a mocking tone. "Pray tell, what crime could you have committed to attract such punishments?"

He growled aggressively at me, his canines shooting out and his eyes glowing a bright red. "What the hell do you want to do to me? Go ahead! But just so you know," he hissed dangerously; "even death wouldn't stop me from loving Chloe!" Before I could get a grip on myself, I rushed towards him in a flash and grabbed him by the neck, slamming his back hard against the wall as I pinned him there. "Say her name one more time and I'll rip your tongue out of your mouth!" He chuckled, his lips curving into an ugly sneer. "If I didn't know you any better, I'd be fooled by the act. One might almost be convinced that you're in love with her, but no..." he shook his head slowly. "Not you Marcus, you're too much of a fuck boy."

That provoked me more. I raised his body off the wall, only to slam him back against the wall. "I love her, you pathetic dimwit and she loves. Me. Too!"

He passed me a mocking smirk. "Wow!" he whispered in mock amazement, "look at you telling me all about love, I wonder if our Chloe will still feel how she feels about you if she finds out the kind of person you are..." My grip on his neck tightened.

"Are you scared?" he choked out, his hands wrapped against mine as he struggled to free himself from my death choke. "Coward," he hissed.

"Shut the fuck up!"

I jerked his body, glaring dangerously into his eyes. I was starting to lose control and I could feel it. So in order to not have any regrets in the near future, I made a quick decision to ignore him for now.

I released him and he let out an annoying laugh. "You need to see your face, I never knew a day would come when I'll see the almighty 'Alpha Marcus' this scared of a little wolf-grrr..."

I punched him hard in the face, cutting off whatever annoying thing he was going to say. "You should stop fooling around and let's get down to business..."

"To hell with you," he muttered, slowly collapsing back onto the floor. "Just let me be, I have no will in me to do any business with you."

I heaved a sigh, then kept a straight face. "I want you Gamma Titus, to get up and come with me..." he sat there glaring at me. "NOW!"

And he was up on his feet.

I tried, I really tried to hide the victorious smirk that snuck its way to my lips. I turned around and marched out of the cell. I began strolling down the corridor, slowing my steps as I heard Titus following. Soon, we were walking side by side. I turned to steal a glance at him. His eyes were focused ahead, face stoic and bare of any emotion. He looked to be deep in thought, so I let him be, not asking the real question I wanted to.

Lima had found something on him that had to do with Chloe, it also made me curious to know; if he could be working with the bad guys. But his reaction towards Chloe seemed really sincere and I doubted if he'd also want any harm coming to her.

We'll just have to wait to find out...

"Vampire?" he asked, disbelief laced in his voice.

He looked from me and back to Mark who nodded, confirming that what I'd just said was true. He shook his head, his eyes narrowing a bit as he seemed deep in thought. "But how is that possible? As Gamma of this pack, I should have felt it's presence once it trespassed.

"Same goes for us both," Mark replied, making a little gesture towards me with his head. "Not even the Alpha could sense it. I was only lucky enough to catch it lurking around before it penetrated too deep." "Hmm," Titus sighed and I just sat back in my chair and observed him. "How exactly could it do that without getting noticed? How exactly did my warriors not spot him and what did it come looking for?" Mark and I shared a look. Titus busied himself with racking up his brain with questions that we both had answers to, while I contacted Mark through the pack's link. "How much does he know about Chloe?"

Mark shook his head. "Nothing. Don't tell him anything until you talk to Chloe first."

"What are you both discussing?"

I turned to see Titus looking from me to Mark with suspicion registered on his face. "Nothing," I quickly replied, cursing silently when Mark replied same.

It was obvious now that we were definitely trying to hide something and Titus was not the most reasonable person, when he felt left out.

A chuckle emanated from him and he nodded slowly, as if he'd just figured something out. "We now keep secrets from each other just because I fell in love with Chloe?"

My wolf started growling, and I forced him down as he struggled to shift me. "What rights do you have to fall in love with my woman?"

"I loved her from the first time I set my eyes on her!"

"That's what makes it wrong! You knew she's a silver wolf, and that means she's mine!"

He didn't retort. He just sat there heaving, as he glared hard at me. "How was I to know you'd take her seriously? You know, with your not being a man whore and all," he snapped in a sarcastic tone. I was just going to give him back the sarcasm, when Mark interceded.

"Alright, kids, put yourselves together! It high time we got serious, because the way I'm seeing it... we've got a war to plan."

I nodded, my eyes rolling over to Titus who gave me a dirty look but then also nodded in agreement. He leaned back into his seat, staring up at the white ceiling like it held a solution to our problems. "Mark?"

Mark rotated his head towards Titus. He raised a questioning eyebrow, "Yes?"

"The vampire...," Titus started. "... what did it say to you? We need to know what exactly we're dealing with, so we know what and who to protect."

Mark turned to look at me and Titus followed his movement. He got up and slammed his palms against the desk. "I knew it!" He pointed an accusing finger between us. "I could sense that you both are hiding something from me!" I remained silent.

Mark remained silent.

"So nobody is going to tell me anything?" He went quiet for a moment, then snapped his fingers like he'd figured out something. "Don't tell me it's Chloe?

My wolf growled, not liking the raw emotions he displayed whenever she was mentioned. As much as I hated to admit, I knew if he knew she was in danger, he'd protect her as much as I would. I decided to tell him but before I could open my mouth...

"Someone talk to me, goddamnit! Is Chloe is danger?!" Titus yelled.

"Yes, she is," someone replied and neither was it Mark nor I, but a voice so familiar.

I stiffened.

Mark stiffened.

Titus trembled slightly, as his angry features morphed into confusion.

All three pairs of eyes, raised up to the ceiling to see where the voice had come from.
