30. A meeting with the subjects

Chloe's POV:

I sat before the mirror, checking myself out for the millionth time. I was to meet with the people and be introduced officially as Luna.

Such fantastic news right? If only I wasn't as nervous as I felt right now.

Don't get me wrong. Finding, moving in with, mating and loving Marcus, had been the best decision of my life. He could be so loving, caring, understanding and attentive. He lived each day to prove his love to me, letting me get used to him and never for once, did he ever force himself on me.

Last night, I finally let him mark me. We had both decided that it was time we stopped neglecting our duties and responsibilities. In order to complete our mating process, he had to mark me so our powers could merge. It was amazing! Marcus got the abilities to: read my thoughts, hear as well as I could and also a little bit of speed from me. Then I got the ability to: hide my scent also, the ability to read his thoughts, and last but definitely not the least, I got the power to forcefully shift anyone!

Super cool right? I've been doing that to Marcus since I realized it. First, I shifted him into his big black wolf, then I shifted him into a bird, then a lizard and back to his human form.

"Did the gods perhaps make a mistake by giving you that particular ability?" he'd asked. But I didn't mind, all I knew was that I loved my new abilities and I intended to use them to serve my purpose without any qualms.

I raised my eyes away from my reflection and stared at the door through the mirror. Any second from now, the door cracked open and Lily walked in. Her eyes met mine through the mirror and I gave her a loving smile.

She smiled back, sighing dramatically as she slowly walked towards me. She came to a halt when she got behind me, her hands snaking onto my shoulders and she began kneading them gently.

A moan escaped my lips as I relaxed under her touch, enjoying the massage she was giving to me. "What's going on?" I asked.

"What's going on; are you sitting in front of this mirror for the past hour and checking yourself out to see if you look perfect."

My eyes flipped open and I gave her a dirty look. "You know what I'm talking about Missus Beta, I want to know if everyone is in the hall waiting," I snapped.

"They are waiting for my queen, they are excited, they can't wait to meet their Luna." She gave a dramatic bow and then bursted into a fit of laughter. She let go of my shoulders and went to sit on the bed. "Look Chloe, I've just been trying to act patiently with you because I know you're nervous and all. You have to get your arse up and into that hall..."

"But what if they don't like me?"

"... show them who the queen is, make them bow to you."

With newfound determination, I stood up, using my palms to straighten out the slight rumples on my dress. Marcus had taken me into pack town the previous week and showered me with dozens of dresses and jewelry. I didn't know what to do with all of those and I had offered some to Lily which she had politely rejected.

Today, I was wearing a white off the shoulder dress which was knee length and almost backless if not for a couple of thin white ropes that were interwoven around it. I had on a simple diamond necklace and a diamond ring which Marcus had gifted me a few weeks ago. He insisted that I wore it all the time, to keep the men away.

"What are you thinking of?"

My eyes shifted to Lily who was already observing me with tired eyes. I felt a little guilty, for I'd over worked her in the preparations for our 'she-wolves' get together party. It had been a while since I saw her, I'd been stuck up with Marcus for the past weeks and I felt like I'd neglected my best friend.

Lilian shifted uncomfortably as she regarded me with cautious eyes. "Pray tell, why exactly are you looking at me like that?"

I raised an amused brow, my lips spreading into a smile. "And how exactly am I looking at you?"

"With fondness glittering in your eyes, what funny ideas are you getting?" she asked, crossing her hands over her chest.

I had to laugh at that one. I think I understand her point but I chose to play dumb. "And isn't fondness a good thing?"

"Well..." she shrugged. "It's not everyday your 'Vampire best friend'looks at you like you were some piece of delicious meat!"

I shook my head at her and she also started laughing. Her laughter didn't last and soon, it was replaced by fondness. She got up slowly, came over to give me a tight hug which I returned. We just stood there for... I don't know how long, basking in each other's presence.

"I know you're scared, but I want you to know that I'd be right beside you through it all. The ladies are excited to meet you and they all promised to behave."

I nodded, taking her hand with me as we walked through the door. "You know, I've got some amazing gifts from my marking. Did you get any?"

Lily looked at me like I had grown two heads. "Of course I did! I can cut into the pack's link, I can identify a human from other creatures, I hear a little bit above human capacity and I never get tired during sex. The only ability I love but couldn't get..." her face fell, making my heart ache instantly. "I didn't get a wolf."

I rubbed her hand gently, locking her fingers with mine. She suddenly turned her head towards me and a wide grin spread on her face. "Oh no...," I muttered in between a chuckle. "Why exactly are you looking at me like that?" "We've got some catching up to do you know," she wiggled her eyebrows suggestively. "I wanna know how the mating process went and every ability you received!"

I scoffed, getting amused at her excitement. I was going to show her my abilities of course, but that was going to be a surprise...

We walked out the house and continued on our way towards the main hall. I could hear the ladies whispering away and just as you guessed; I could hear a lot of awful things being said. I registered the voices in my head, hoping to at least have a confrontation with them.

"Can you stop growling at least, you're beginning to irritate me," Lily snapped.

I shot her a glare and she gave me a dismissive look which provoked me all the more. "You do not hear the things they speak of my man, you'd get more angry if they said those things about Mark-" "They wouldn't dare!"

I rolled my eyes, when she hissed defensively. "Now you get my point? I can't believe Marcus is such a man whore!"

Lily giggled, earning another glare from me. "But the man loves to fuck, wolves are horny all the time, including you," she deadpanned.

I scoffed, refusing to take the hit. "What about you? You and Mark can't keep your hands off each other for a second!"

She grinned, taking her lower lip in between her teeth which gave her a naughty look. "I guess the moon goddess always knew I love to fuck, that's why she gave me a big, bad, horny wolf," she ended with a wink. "Eww!"

She laughed when I made a fake face of disgust. "I guess my distraction technique worked?"

Before I could ask what she meant, the large doors of the hall parted open, and I was led inside. Everyone went quiet, at that point of silence, one could hear a pin drop.

I looked around the hall and yes! These people were so happy to see me... ironically!

Their glares said it all, I didn't need a welcome song to know how appreciated my presence was in the room. I started to feel intimidated as I glanced at all the beautiful ladies who had resumed their gossiping but now in hushed tone. Lily led me over to the stage and squeezed my hand encouragingly. She leaned over to whisper in my ear: "head high, shoulders raised. We're all your subjects, show us who the queen is, and put us in our places!"

I took a deep breath, nodding firmly at her. I finally took a step forward, walking closer to the crowd of glaring women. It also didn't escape my notice that; there were a few who weren't glaring but also had displeasure written on their faces. "Hello 'Shewolves," I started, holding my head as high as it could go without managing to look stupid. "I am your Luna and my name is Chloe," I paused, watching for any reaction. "I command adequate respect from you all as your Alpha's woman," I added for effect.

They were murmurings and curses being thrown about. As much as I wanted to smirk in victory, I kept a straight face when I silenced them. "Silence!"

And everyone went quiet.

"I will no longer tolerate such insolent behaviors from you, I do not care if Marcus has bedded every woman in this room but that is not an excuse for you to act out of line." I stared at them challengingly and they all lowered their eyes except one. With my eyes pinned on her, I carried on. "I have come to make friends and loyal subjects with you all. So if there's anyone here who wishes to make an enemy of me, you can walk out that door..."

Everyone remained standing. Some even lifted their glasses of wine to their lips and others pretended like they hadn't heard me. But that very one...

She looked me dead in the eyes, raised her glass and tipped it at me, only to let go and it hit the floor, wine and broken glass splattering all over the place. She then turned around and stomped out of the hall.

I tried not to scoff, forcing a smile as I came down the stage to mingle with the rest. Lily met me halfway, giving me a full glass of white wine which I received with 'thanks'.

"You did great!"

I smiled gratefully at her. "And you outdo yourself with the decorations, they're lovely!" I turned around to address the crowd. "Please go on with the party, I'd like to get introduced to everyone before the day runs out. Cheers!" "Cheers!"

Lily nudged me, sending me a proud smirk. She was everything and more I could have ever found in a best friend, she was like my own personal guardian angel, whom my parents sent to guard and protect me.

I decided it was time to give her one of my surprises I'd planned for her. I quickly connected her through the link: "who was that she-wolf, who walked out on me?"

She coughed, spitting out her drink as she turned to me slowly. She regarded me with wide eyes and as if trying to confirm that she'd really heard my voice in her head, she replied: her name is Cara, one of Marcus's regulars. Also? Did I really hear your voice in my head?"

You heard me alright, I can now cut into the pack's link.

She grinned from ear to ear like I'd just given her the best news of the century. I can't wait to see the rest, they'll be mind blowing!

I nodded in agreement, taking a sip out of my glass. My mind shifted back to the rebellious werewolf, Cara or whatever her name is. She'd just drawn the battle line, and I wasn't about to sit back and watch...
