Alpha's One Night Bride -
Alpha’s One Night Bride – Chapter 92
Days later, Jessica remained at Dr. Beverly’s office in her coma. There have been no signs of her waking up which has been troubling for us all. Spencer stayed by her side constantly; he refused to leave for a while. He hardly slept; it pulled at my heart to see someone who genuinely cared about Jessica to be by her side, and she doesn’t even know it.
Jonathan filled me in with everything he found out about Spencer; how his mom gave him up to a random couple that treated him poorly. He lived a life being taken advantage of, abused, tortured, and left for dead. He eventually escaped those horrid conditions, thankfully. But, on his travels, he had a dream about my mother, and she told him he needed to get to Moon-Valley. For some reason, she was steering him towards Jessica.
Jonathan managed to convince Spencer to stay with us in one of the guest bedrooms for right now until he can figure out what his next move is. We told him he was more than welcome to reside in Sabrebite predominately considering he doesn’t have a pack to go home to. Plus, I had a feeling Jessica was going to be in Sabrebite for a while and he’s going to want to be close to her.
While there wasn’t much, we could do for Jessica at this moment, and while Spencer was there taking care of her and keeping watch on her, Jonathan and I decided it would be a good opportunity to go to Silverside and speak with Melissa/Willa.
I had to admit that I was nervous about confronting her and I wasn’t really sure what I was going to say, but we needed to find out what her plan was and why she was targeting Ronnie. I was hoping I wasn’t going to run into Rock because I had nothing to say to him. As far as I was concerned, he was dead to me.
Boris was waiting for us when we arrived at the Silverside prison; Jonathan linked him before we got there to let him know we needed to speak with Melissa. We arrived within the hour in our wolf forms; we needed to get in and out quickly. I couldn’t stray too far away from Emee with Greggory still out there and I needed to keep a watch on Jessica as well.
By now he’s most definitely realized she wasn’t where he left her, and he probably could smell Jonathan’s scent all over his house. He probably knows exactly where Jessica is and might come back to finish the job if he’s worried, she’s going to talk. He left her for dead so that obviously meant he was done using her for whatever he was using her for.
“Thank you for letting us come on such short notice,” Jonathan said to Boris as we approached him.
They shook hands on contact.
“Yeah, you two sure you want to do this?” He asked, eyeing us both.
“We have to,” Jonathan answered.
Boris didn’t ask any more questions; we followed him through the prison. Passing by the many cells; it was uneasy traveling through the prison. I wondered how Ronnie managed to deal with it; I still couldn’t believe she came here without telling anybody.
Towards the end of the prison, Boris stopped in front of a cell; he turned to us before opening the door.
“I will be in there the whole time,” he informed us. “If anything gets out of hand, I’ll pull you both out.”
I frowned; was he expecting something awful to happen.? Was it us or her he was worried about?
He opened the door and he stepped inside first; Jonathan stepped inside next, and I followed closely behind. Melissa was sitting on her bed; her auburn hair fell messily around her shoulders; she wore blue scrubs that looked dirty from probably her dirty cell. The cell itself smelled like death and nearly made me gag. I had to cover my nose to keep from taking in too much of it.
Her skin was much paler than I remembered, probably from the lack of sunlight in the cell. She turned to face us as soon as we entered. She didn’t look surprised to see us, probably because she already knew we were coming through her dark witch magic.
“Arina,” she breathed as she stood to her feet. I took an uneasy step backward; I didn’t want her coming near me. “Don’t worry, I’m not going to touch you.”
“We need to talk,” I told her, trying to keep my voice steady.
“I figured this wasn’t a casual visit,” she said, sarcasm oozing from her words.
“You gave Ronnie a bracelet, what was it for?” I asked.
I didn’t want to continue beating around the bush; I wanted in and out of here. She frowned for a moment as she thought about it.
“Something I’ve been wanting to give her for a while,” Melissa answered. “She’s my daughter after all. Am I not allowed to gift my daughter?”
“Not when there’s an ulterior motive,” I told her.
“What ulterior motive could I possibly have against my daughter?” Melissa asked, a little too innocently.
I felt my body tensing up.
“You tell us,” I told her between gritted teeth. “My mother had that same bracelet…”
“You’re accusing me of stealing her bracelet?” Melissa asked. “That’s really rich of you.”
“It’s not accusing if you know for a fact,” I told her, taking a step closer to her.
Jonathan grabbed my arm gently, indicating that I shouldn’t go any closer to her.
She frowned, staring between the two of us.
“You’re serious? You are deranged,” she said; she gave me her best fake shocked reaction.
I rolled my eyes. I wasn’t buying it. I wasn’t buying any of her bullshit.
“Tell us the truth Melissa,” I barked.
Her eyes widened.
“Fine…” Melisa muttered. “I stole the brace. What does it matter? She’s dead anyway.”
“We know who you are, so quit the act,” Jonathan surprised me by saying.
“I’m sorry?” Melissa asked, blinking a couple of times, confused.
“We know you aren’t actually Melissa, Willa,” Jonathan shot back to her.
She looked taken back; she looked up at Boris who was just staring at her stone-faced. I was surprised he hadn’t said anything or made any gestures. Then she glanced back at me, and her face fell into aggravation.
“I’m not the one you should be talking to,” she said, her voice growing flat with each word.
I frowned.
“What does that mean?” I asked.
“Maybe you should be asking questions to the one who summoned me in the first place,” she said, folding her arms across her chest.
“Being here is not a choice I’ve made. But it’s something I’m stuck with. That Alpha douchbag is the one you want to talk to. Ask him why he summoned me in the first place,” Melissa/Willa said.
I breathed out.
“So, it’s true?” I asked; I could hardly find my voice. “You’re Willa?”
She chuckled.
“Did Melissa ever exist?” Jonathan asked.
“She did at one point,” Willa said, waving her hand as though she was swatting a fly. “But she died decades ago.”
“This entire time… You were Melissa?” I asked, hardly audible.
She laughed again.
“Had everyone fooled, didn’t I?” She said, chuckling. I couldn’t believe what I was hearing, I was at a loss for words. “That douchebag summoned me years ago. Actually, it was his father who summoned me. He wanted to be part of the Davis bloodline so he could be the next Overseer. I told him it wasn’t possible but because I was the most powerful dark witch known, he figured I would be able to help him in that impossible mission. Well, he was right.”
My frown deepened.
“What do you mean, he was right?” I asked, afraid to know the answer.
“We found out that the only way it was possible was if an actual Davis was used as a sacrifice during a red-moon ceremony,” she explained.
“What?” Jonathan breathed.
“However, this sacrifice needs to be innocent. Such as the b***d can’t be tainted. A virgin. An innocent mind. They can’t know what romantic love is or have s*x on their mind. Pure innocence.”
“A baby,” Jonathan said; I shot him a look.
“Emee? I asked in shock.
He didn’t respond; he didn’t need to respond. It was the only thing that really made sense. But would he actually wait all these years for a baby of the Davis bloodline to be born?
“He initially wanted Jonathan,” Willa explained. “But by the time he summoned me, and we found out what we needed to make this work, it was too late.”
I looked a Jonathan confused.
“What does she mean?” I asked.
“I was in love with you…” he said.
“This sacrifice can’t know true romantic love. They literally must be babies,” Willa said.
I looked up at Boris to see his reaction to everything, he was still staring at Willa, stone-faced.
“What’s wrong with him?” I asked.
“I have him entranced,” she answered. “He won’t remember any of this once I snap him out of it.”
I was kind of relieved of that.
“So, you’ve been waiting out this entire time for me to have my daughter?” I asked.
“Greggory’s dad ended up with some sort of disease that killed him unfortunately and passed the reins to his kid. He kept both you and Jonathan close and in reach. I became Melissa and chased you out and towards Moon-Valley where Greggory could watch over you.”
“You killed my mother…” I said softly.
“Small price I had to pay.”
I pressed my lips together in a firm line as I stared at her.
“Why Ronnie? Why do you want her dead?” I asked firmly.
“She proves to be a problem to me,” Willa said, waving her hands dismissively again.
“Tell us how to get that Bracelet off her,” Jonathan demanded.
That just made Willa laugh.
“Why would I ever tell you that?” She laughed. “I have plans with her, just as I have plans with Nikini.”
Nikini. I had completely forgotten she was marked as well. My heart sunk into my stomach thinking about it. I looked at Boris again; he was completely oblivious of what was going on under his nose. His wife was about to meet a fatal end if we didn’t do something.
“What do you have against Nikini?” Jonathan asked.
Willa rolled her eyes.
“Her family owes me a debt that Nikini will pay,” she answered. “It isn’t your concern.”
“Wait, are you Ronnie’s real mother?” I asked; I was in shock about everything I was learning. I couldn’t wrap my head around everything.
Willa laughed again.
“Ew,” she muttered. “Of course not.”
“Then who is?” Jonathan asked forcibly.
Willa gave us an exaggerated sigh and waved her hand in our direction.
“You’ve asked enough questions. It’s time for you to go.”
“What?” I asked, stepping closer to her.
She motioned for Boris and before I could get any closer, Boris’s arm was out to stop me. I shot him a look, about to protest. But I realized he was still entranced; there was nothing I could say to change his mind.
“Time to leave,” Boris ordered us; his tone was dark, and it sent chills down my spine.
Jonathan grabbed onto my arm to pull me closer to him.
“This isn’t over,” Jonathan hissed to her.
Willa smirked.
“Funny. Because it looks like that’s exactly what it is.”
