Alpha’s Slave Luna -
Chapter 105
Otis's POV:
Ice cold.
In this moment it was as if I had entered a hole in the ground of ice.
Those empty eyes were focused on me and all I could feel from them was despair and numbness.
They just looked at me without emotion, no one made a sound, I could even hear my own rapid breathing and heartbeat.
What was going on? Was the plague this bad? How many people had been infected?
Such a coldness made me shiver, accompanied by the shock and coldness inside me, along with the pain that did not fade away from my body tearing, and I understood in this moment the source of the sense of crisis.
I breathed heavily as the intense pain transformed me into a human being. I scanned the buildings around me with my gaze and suddenly my gaze stopped, my pupils contracting rapidly in this moment as behind a window I saw a familiar figure. It was the leader of a squad of warriors, and I wouldn't have even recognised him if it weren't for his very distinctive black curly hair.
Once he had a strong body, but now his flesh and blood looked like it had been piled up with hay, his skin was an abnormal white colour, and he had lost several pounds.
When he saw me he seemed to want to make a sound, but he glanced at the closed glass window, hesitated and remained quiet.
It was as if the glass separated him from the world, even from the sound.
He was preventing the plague he had contracted from flowing more into the air.
It was as if my heart was cut with a knife when I saw this. Those were the people who once had healthy bodies and smiles, but now this is what they have become.
No, I would bring back the antidote now, things would surely be solved, and yes, the hospital, the doctors must know what was going on.
With this in mind I no longer hesitated, I carried my water jug full of antidote tightly and walked resolutely in the direction of the hospital, enduring the pain in my body.
Just then, I suddenly felt a warmth coming from inside my body, and my body relaxed a little in the moment.
Great, it was my body's self-healing recovery ability, which was restoring my overloaded body.
With the pain of my torn body relieved, I gritted my teeth and ran again, entering the interior of the Blue-moon Pack under the gaze of those icy stares.
The silent wind raged across the empty floor of the Blue-moon Pack, scattering the dried and almost powdered blood clots, and those smells within the wind entered my nostrils, and a sickening sensation, too, almost rushed to the top of my head. The air was thicker with that particular smell, almost approaching the smell that I had smelled in the Totem Pack.
I furrowed my brow together as my body recovered to speed me up, and gradually some sounds came from the distance.
It was the direction of the hospital, and there was still activity there!
Light appeared in my mind and I ran with as much strength as I could muster at the moment, until the figures of the nurses appeared inside my sight.
They were wearing thick protective robes that looked thicker than before, and each had more intricate masks, even fitted with elaborate filtering structures.
"Otis, you're finally back."
Suddenly I heard a familiar voice coming from the side and when I turned my head I froze for a moment.
It was Marsh, but now he didn't feel as full of spirit as he did at first, the blackness and blood inside his eyes etched his exhaustion, and he was walking towards the hospital in the same thick protective suit, pushing a cart full of food. "Marsh! How far has the plague gone now, I just got back to the wolf pack I saw ......"
"They've all been quarantined."
Suddenly I heard Marsh's voice get very heavy.
"At first we thought we could prevent infection if we didn't come into contact, but we were wrong, and when we discovered that the scent of the plague could slowly contaminate the air it was too late." "Contaminate the air?"
My heartbeat jerked a little faster at that moment.
"Yes, we took urgent measures to quarantine, but we could only make up for it, because one by one, more than two thirds of our entire clan had been infected, and even the hospital couldn't continue to accommodate any more patients!" Marsh did not linger any longer as he spoke, but continued to push the cart towards the hospital.
"The infection has killed fourteen people so far and there is a huge shortage of labour because of the infection, I now have to deliver food to some of the infected people as soon as possible."
I heard a deliberately suppressed sadness in his tone, as if huge bells were ringing inside my head, I squeezed the kettle in my hand tighter and then I sprinted towards the stairs. Fourteen people, fourteen clansmen had lost their lives in the space of a few days!
The bloody numbers were almost unbelievable, and my breath caught more sharply as my mind remembered the look of those dried bodies.
Nair, no, he'll be fine, he's a good boy, the moon gods will bless him!
My self-healing abilities made the tear in my body much better and I held my breath as I sprinted towards Nair's room until I saw the nurse who had just come out of Nair's room. "Otis ......
The nurse seemed a little surprised to see me, she opened her mouth to say something, but soon her eyes darkened and the words she wanted to say were swallowed back.
It was as if something was cutting across her throat.
The state she displayed caused a flash of panic to appear in my mind and my voice became urgent.
"Open the door...... quickly!"
The wards had all been retrofitted with special protective glass, and the doors had additional layers of wooden doors and thick sealing cloths, which prevented airflow from inside and outside, but a key was also required to gain access, and all infected people were restricted from moving around.
The moment the nurse carefully opened the door, I rushed in towards it, but in the next moment my breathing almost stopped.
"How could this happen, how did he become like this!"
I stood still and covered my mouth.
In the white hospital bed was lying a thin figure, his body seemed to be stitched together with dried wood, the white seemed to be invading and polluting his skin as if it had life in it, and his cheeks, which used to look like apples, were now sticking to the bones of his face like dehydrated rags.
The breath of life was almost gone, only the fluttering of the breathing-assisting apparatus on his cheek indicated that he was still alive.
"Otis....... based on the current situation, I'm afraid this child won't make it to tomorrow, their body has no way of accepting water and the doctors have absolutely no solution to the problem, they've even given up on creating an antidote."
The nurse's weak voice reached my ears and I turned my gaze for a moment, I saw that not far away on another bed, the older werewolf was similarly wearing an aid to breathing.
She had fallen into a coma, she didn't look much better than Nair and I feared that in a short time she too would lose her life.
"At least he's alive now...... I'm sure...... I can get him back."
I said sharply, and without hesitation I went to Nair's bedside, and after opening the lid of the kettle I was ready to move Nair's breathing apparatus.
For it was the only way to drink the antidote!
"Otis, what are you doing!"
Suddenly the nurse's panicked voice rang out from beside me, and she anxiously pulled on my arm to prevent my next move.
"Otis, if you unhook his breathing apparatus, the boy will soon suffocate and then lose his life!"
"I have the antidote!"
I raised my voice, but to my surprise the nurse still didn't let go of my arm, instead she grabbed my cuffs harder.
"An antidote? How is this possible! It's a plague that all the doctors can't fix, and this weird water is better tested by a doctor first, in case something goes wrong!"
I looked at Nair in front of me, anxiety rushed to my mind and the next moment suddenly turned my body and swung my right hand out with a hint of power!
With a soft thud, my palm touched the nurse's carotid artery and the next moment she fell unconscious towards the ground, at which moment I also reached out and caught her.
It was a technique Conrad had given me that allowed me to accurately make someone faint unharmed.
"He doesn't have that much time left, sorry."
I said with an apologetic look at her, and after setting her aside on the bed, I came to Nair's side again.
It's going to be okay......Nair.
I prayed silently in my mind and then removed the breathing device from his mouth, and at that moment Nair had a huge reaction.
"Otis sister...... is that you...... you finally ......"
Nair breathed heavily, as if he couldn't breathe enough, even his voice was getting weaker and weaker, a kind of blue-purple color spread to his neck, but it was such a situation, when he saw me, I could feel the joy inside his voice. "Nair, don't talk!"
My anxious heart seemed to burn with fire, but I did not hesitate in my movements.
With one arm I tilted his head up and with the other hand I passed the spout of the water jug to his mouth and with a slight movement let the spring water inside flow into his mouth drop by drop.
The water slowly spread in his mouth until I saw Nair's lips begin to quiver.
