Alpha’s Slave Luna -
Chapter 111
Otis's POV:
The moonlight fell towards the horizon above my head, the dark night would soon pass, but this moment before dawn was the darkest all the same.
The moon had almost disappeared overhead, emanating its light at the edge of the horizon, but it was blocked by the dense woods, and in this dim light only the sound of dense claws scraping the ground in the trees seemed clear. I opened my pupils to their fullest extent and all light entered them as I weaved through the dense, dark undergrowth, keeping no more than fifty feet away from my enemy, no matter how much he tried to increase his speed behind me. The chase continued for almost a couple of hours, and I was sure they were a good distance away from the Blue-moon Pack, but I wasn't completely reassured.
Maybe I should take them on another run for some distance.
Just as I thought about it, suddenly the voices behind me slowed and then gradually stopped, that icy stare dwindling over my body. Had they given up?
I had some doubts about the steps I had stopped, but even when I stopped running, the voices behind me still didn't ring out.
His seemed to be a complete abandonment.
At that very moment, a blinding light rose from ahead, tearing the dark sky in two in an instant.
Dawn had fallen.
The infinite light became more and more overflowing in my sight, the sky looked like the eyes of a god that was opening, and suddenly I turned my head and I saw the shadows inside those forests receding in the spreading glow on the ground. Those Dusk Pack warriors looked like pitch black evil spirits who were being driven back into the abyss by the endless glow.
And yes, it was only natural to give up in the face of an enemy that would not be able to catch up for hours.
Paying no further attention to them, I ran out quickly into the sunlight ahead of me.
Those few hours should be enough to make them feel tired, and even if they wanted to get back to the Blue-moon Pack's wolves, it would take far more than a few hours.
I had to find the snow elves as quickly as possible.
With this in mind I increased my speed, the light made the earth clearer, my vision was no longer obstructed and when I was no longer hiding my power my speed almost doubled from before.
I breathed in the fresh air of dawn and the moment the sun appeared, the forest too seemed to be awakened, the insects of the night faded away and were replaced by the brighter chirping of birds whose voices rose and fell throughout the forest, as if singing the praises of the dawn.
How far was it to the top of the mountain that possessed the snow?
I looked ahead at the various hills woven together, thinking and hoping in my mind.
In the hours of chasing inside the night, at the speed between us, I should have traversed hundreds of miles of forest, and according to the changing patterns of the climate, perhaps I would have traversed a few hundred more miles before I could see the peaks that possessed the snow.
My heart's expectations and and the full force of my current rush did not allow me to think about anything else, for I was now going so fast that I was crossing countless rocks and trees every second on average.
I had to be constantly aware of the obstacles around me to prevent my body from accidentally colliding with them.
The sun continued to shine overhead, the rising sun trying to dominate the earth once again, slowly climbing towards the highest point, but the sky was not getting any brighter.
A dark cloud was slowly drifting in the distance, trying to block the sunlight, and my surroundings were gradually changing.
As I continued to walk across the endless earth, my surroundings spoke of the passage of time, the trees were becoming thinner, the flowers I encountered on the roadside were becoming fewer, and even the temperature of the air was becoming cooler. Suddenly I looked up as I saw a peak with a snowy white cap gradually appearing behind two mountains in the distance.
This was the summit with the snow!
Joy appeared in my heart and I couldn't help but pick up my speed again.
I had been running through the forest for a day, and if I had been an ordinary werewolf, I would have used up all my strength, but I was only feeling a little tired.
My bloodline was giving me strength without end, as if he had an infinite furnace of wood, and I felt that I could continue to run for a long, long time, and I could keep running until I found the plants.
The mountain became clear in my sight and I looked at it as I continued to run, the sunlight blocked by the dark clouds moving slowly above my head, and by the time he came to my head, I realised that I did not seem to be getting any closer to the mountain. I was reminded at this point of some lines in a book which say that looking at a mountain and moving forward can wear out a strong horse.
This was probably what I was experiencing now; the distance between the mountain in the distance and me was actually so great that even if I could see it, I would still have to do a long run.
Let me keep running then, at my speed I might be able to reach the foot of that mountain in another hour.
I was thinking in my mind when suddenly my back infected with some cold feeling, I subconsciously glanced at the sky, which became even darker, the dark clouds overhead were much heavier, my vision became a bit blurred at this moment, those were the raindrops that blocked the light ahead. Was it raining?
The ground gradually became wet, the sparse grasses were pressed down on their heads, the leaves around me made a dense sound of being washed away, the birds chirping around me became much less, the whole forest became noisy, yet quiet. The rain didn't affect my pace, I walked quickly in the rain, my body was not comparable to that of an ordinary werewolf, this rain not only didn't make me catch a cold, it didn't even make me feel cold somehow.
I just needed to keep going like this until I reached that mountain.
With that in mind, I increased my speed again, the power that my body kept providing burning inside my muscles, and I even felt my body getting hot in this rainy weather.
The rain was soft as a feather and seemed to have no end, and I lost track of time in this endless run.
Nearer, nearer.
I don't know how long it took until I felt the sun had changed direction in the sky when the mountain began to gradually become closer to me.
It was the feeling of being close to reaching the foot of the mountain.
Surprise appeared in my mind as I saw that the mountain was rapidly getting bigger until I felt some change in the slope as it blocked half of the sky so that my view was covered by the mountain.
"I'm finally here, I can definitely look for the snow elves."
I let out a long breath and stopped at the base of the mountain, but at that moment there was some movement from inside the trees next to me.
The branch in front of me snapped and a strong shadow stood in my way, accompanied by a menacing voice.
"Damned rogue, how dare you invade my Snow Pack's territory!"
