Alpha’s Slave Luna -
Chapter 114
Otis's
POV:
A Taste Like This......
I could never be wrong, this taste was engraved in my mind.
This rough and tasteless taste, this sore throat when swallowing, this feeling that makes you want to turn your stomach.
It was the same taste that I remembered from those eight years when I was a slave, when I ate this food almost constantly, the bad, hard and rough black bread, the tasteless porridge made of scraps, but now I could taste it again for the first time in a long time! The food of the Snow Pack is now almost the same as the food I used to eat as a slave!
Had their living conditions gotten this bad?
I looked at the porridge in my hand and something began to fluctuate inside me.
"Otis, if you can't eat it forget it, I remember there's a river at the bottom of the hill, I'll catch some fish and make some fish soup........
"Father, do you have to run that far again, when mother died at the hands of ruffians because she ran too far......"
"No, no need!"
I listened to that little girl's voice and my heart trembled, then I interrupted them, then in their astonished gaze, I held the bowl of porridge and gradually drank it to the bottom.
"Chief, can I have some more."
"Dang...... sure......"
The werewolf chief was speechless for a moment as he quickly filled the porridge in my hand, then turned and walked towards the other room.
"I'm going to go rinse off first, I can't face my guests in this messy posture I'm in, and yes, my name is Jace, you don't have to keep calling me chief."
The warmth of the flames in the house spread and there was some scattered water in the distance as the wetness was gradually removed from my body, although I never felt cold, the dryness and warmth also made me feel comfortable.
I waited until I had finished the porridge in my hand again before I took a deep breath.
"Otis, I can't believe you can eat so much of this food, to be honest, I can't believe it."
Suddenly some surprised and powerful voices came from the distance and I saw Jace walking towards me with a snowy white fur wrapped around his body.
He was holding a towel and wiping his hair, looking with his eyes at the empty bowl on the floor as he walked, then looking up at me as if comparing me to the bowl.
"As I have said before, I was indeed a slave in the old days, and food like this is something I have long since grown accustomed to."
I said as I looked at his current appearance, and then my eyes widened as this werewolf actually changed his appearance completely from before after his bath.
The stray whiskers on his face had been shaved clean, and it seemed that because the stains had been washed away, his hair had become very silky and had taken on a dark blonde colour with a gentle tinge to it, such that it hung down his cheeks and gave him a whole look of manly maturity and generosity.
His skin had become smoother after the shower, his wheaten, powerful skin seemed to reflect the light of a candle flame, and his skin tone gave him a very defined, masculine texture.
This man gave me a comfortable feeling, there was nothing harsh about him, he was full of reassuring intimacy, and as I looked at him I was even almost drawn to it.
Suddenly I raised my head to look into his equally dark golden pupils, and this time I noticed that his gaze froze for a moment at this point, then immediately shifted as if there was some fear of meeting my gaze.
"I never thought what you said was true, I still feel like I'm dreaming that a beautiful lady like you was once a slave."
My heart skipped a beat at the sound of his voice tinged with emotion, I remembered those days when we were treated as slaves and I remembered the look in the eyes of those at Grey Pack.
At this point in time, my tone took on a serious tone.
"Do you ...... guys resent being a slave like that?"
At the sound of my voice, Jace froze for a moment, and then he laughed.
"How could we think that, as you can see, we Snow Pack are no better off than slaves and .......
At that he was silent for a couple of seconds.
"Inside those more powerful packs in the southern forests, slaves don't live in good conditions, but they at least don't die as easily, but packs like ours are forever walking the gap between survival and death."
As I listened to his heavy voice, my heart was touched once again as images of the wolves that had just entered this pack appeared in my mind, the sight of their lives, which really seemed worse than even slaves. "We faced a lack of food, we faced attacks from rogues, often wolves would die in rogue attacks, yet I could do nothing about it."
I could see Jace's expression gradually twist a little as he frowned his brow as if he was blaming himself.
"We're not like those mighty wolves, it's very hard for us to fend off rogues, a pack like ours doesn't even have a decent Alpha, and I'm only used as their leader, but I don't qualify as an Alpha."
He looked over at me as he spoke.
"That's why I never resented slaves, no one wants to be a slave, not to mention that it is possible to have a broader heart after experiencing the painful life of a slave, and such a person would, in turn, feel more dear to me." After saying that, I saw some light appear inside his gaze, such a light that my breath stopped for a moment, because this kind of light I seemed to have seen inside Conrad's eyes.
I had some dumbfounded look at his gaze as the words he spoke, syllable by syllable, were imprinted in my mind.
I had never expected anyone to have such an opinion of slaves, even Conrad, who, as my mate, had disliked my status so harshly at the very beginning.
"Can slavery really make you feel more affectionate?"
"Of course, I swear to the moon gods that I have not told a single lie, I admire any werewolf who has gone through the life of a slave and stayed strong to survive, they make me feel close, especially you, beautiful lady."
He answered me seriously, his gentle and affectionate gaze flowing like water through his dark golden pupils, and the waves in my heart began to swell as I looked into his eyes.
It was a feeling of recognition, a shiver of resonance in my soul, which made me look more seriously at this man, who was full of maturity and gentle charm, and had a heart that seemed to hold the sea.
"Otis, if you don't mind, can I ask you a question."
"What?"
"Do you have a partner now?"
I froze again at the sound of his question and I felt the whole room fall silent as the old lady and Katy, both next to me, placed their curious eyes on me.
I remembered the averted look in the werewolf leader's eyes when he saw me, and if I was right, perhaps the man had taken a liking to me.
Such a thought sent a shiver down my spine as Conrad's face appeared in my mind, and my shaken heart smoothed out in the moment.
As charming as this man was, he possessed an affinity and kindness that no other man I had ever met had, Conrad had long ago clogged my heart, I had lived and died with him, carried the future of the pack on my back as we marched forward, and I would not have liked any other man under any circumstances.
Conrad, my destined mate, I will always love him.
I moved my lips to tell him the answer, but the next moment I held back my words.
It suddenly occurred to me that I was only here to find the cure, that I might soon leave this place, that our meeting might be just a memory.
If I turned him down coldly, maybe this memory would be less than good, maybe even make our relationship a little awkward.
Let it be a memory, and through the passage of time in the future, Jace would fall for another woman.
I changed my subject at this point and looked at come Jace with a clear gaze.
"By the way, are there many more wolves like you ......?
