An Affair With My Ex -
Chapter 82
Alex's POV. "Beep,
Beep!"
My eyes opened slowly yet confusingly to the blurry view of a shiny white light placed directly before my eyes.
It looked so real and so dubious at a time too that I thought I was already dead and welcomed to eternity by the most high.
I couldn't take my head and my eyes off the light. It covered my whole view and that was all I could behold. A bright white eye blinding light.
I tried blinking my eyes so I could get a better view of probably different angels in their white gowns standing before me but then, I heard a beeping sound which brought me back to reality within a flash.
It wasn't what I was expecting though but it made me give my life a second thought.
'Heaven shouldn't have such. What are they? The Haven clinic?' I said Inwardly as I squinted my eyes and tapped on the bed continuously for help like I was certain about my destination.
"Where am I?" I questioned with a deep voice as I tried looking around the room this time.
My neck had finally decided to navigate itself and it gave me the chance to look around. I felt numb before and I bet it was because I was just waking up.
As I looked around, I couldn't understand a thing. Everywhere appeared to be blurry and I couldn't get a closer look of anything that was around me too.
I couldn't pinpoint which item belonged to God and which one was the trumpet. That was if I was actually in heaven.
"Seems like you are awake now!" I suddenly heard a manly voice from beside me which made me turn to my right without hesitation to find out who it was.
I needed to be aware of my environment at this point.
He came closer to me with his loud footsteps and immediately he got to where I was, he had the white light turned off, making me feel a sharp pain in my eyes because of how long I had looked at the light thinking I was dead. "Ahh.." I clutched my head in pain as I wished for it to stop, for the negative influence the light had on me to stop instantly.
My eyes were shut at this point and my hands on my head as all I continuously wished for was to see Abby standing beside me.
"I'm sorry Sir Alex but the light was the only device we could use to bring you back to reality. It was of good use you know" he uttered as I fought so hard to get my sanity back.
It was at this point I realised who had the voice that had spoken to me. I could recall the face of the man standing beside me without even taking a glimpse at him.
"It's just you..." I opened my eyes to his view and as predicted by me earlier on, it was Doctor Albert. Our family doctor.
I tried sitting up on his bed when I realised that I was in his hospital. It was a difficult task to sit up though. Perfect health was underrated by me and now, I couldn't pray for anything else other than the same good health I never cared about. Doctor Albert had to help me get on my butt seeing that I was still struggling to stay balanced on his bed. It was possible to fall out of his bed if he didn't hold me up.
We were in his office now and I just didn't know how I got into it. All I could remember was taking Abby to the emergency ward and my head spinning all over the place before it happened to me.
'A Panic Attack' I heaved a heavy sigh as I thought about it.
"You must be tired.. and I think you should rest instead of trying to stand on your feet" he tapped me on my shoulder lightly and was going to turn around to leave me for his seat but then, I gripped him on his jacket, stopping him from going any further. He halted, knowing I wouldn't let him go until I found out a reasonable answer about the information I needed from him.
"Are you going to keep acting like a Mute for the rest of your life or tell me what is wrong with you?" He asked with a scoff as he darted his gaze from me for a brief second before turning back to me.
He climbed on the same bed I was sitting down on and without a word from my mouth, he began to spit his discoveries out to me without hiding or holding back.
"We should thank God you are alive first and that I met you just at the right time.." he cackled softly, looking at me.
"What happened back there?" I asked out of curiosity. I needed to know more about what he had under his sleeves.
"Well, I wouldn't say that you were having trouble discerning things correctly but I guess you were having a panic attack, Alex!" He revealed, making me recall the man who had called my name before I passed out earlier on. "That was you right?" I gruffed, inclining my head to the ground in shame. A billionaire who collapsed before everyone.
"Yes Alex. We should just be glad that you are okay and breathing fine. You don't need further medications for now!" He explained, Dipping his hands into his lab coat.
As he spoke about me being fine, the thought of Abby came running and slamming into my mind too. How could I have missed the fact that she was in greater danger than I was.
I immediately turned to him fully which made him focus his attention on me.
"Any more questions?" He halved a smile on his lips as he stared at me.
"What about Abby, my wife?" I mumbled out my question, sniffling.
"She's fine Alex. I'm sure she'll recover from the injury soon." Albert announced, making stay calm for a second.
She was shot from behind and the fact she was still alive made my heart jump for joy.
"So I could go see her when she opens her eyes?" I asked but instead of him responding to my question, he let out a feigned smile on his lips.
Doctor Albert immediately climbed down from my bed and was going to leave but then, I knew something was up with Him.
He had told me she was still alive but I still had doubts that Abby was totally fine.
The doctor Albert I knew wasn't the kind to shy away from conversations no matter what. Whenever he does that, there is always a huge problem lingering around him.
I jumped down from the bed too and with my eyes fixed on him, I made him stop walking or trying to run away from me with my statement.
"What is wrong with her?" I tightened my fist as I wished to get a response from him immediately and without hesitation.
"Albert? I'm waiting for your response!" I uttered, In pain as he kept mute.
He turned back to me but this time, he had a sad look on his face which made me scared for a moment.
'Was Abby dead? Did I bring her in late to the hospital?' I panicked again but this time, I had control over it.
My heart raced in fear as I awaited his response. I was getting sick and tired of watching him stand and not say anything to me.
"Abby is fine, Alex..!" He revealed, having a forced grin on his lips.
"No way, Albert.. tell me the truth and nothing but the truth. What is wrong with my Wife!!?" I Bellowed with fury and I bet he saw how mad I was at him for trying to make me believe him, to believe a lie he told.
"It won't profit you, Alex..it will only make you even weaker!!" He was going to open his door and leave but that wasn't going to happen on my watch.
I scurried towards him and with anger, I held him on his collar as I helped him banged the door forcefully.
"Being weak Is my choice, Albert. Choosing to be strong can only be done when Abby is awake and healthy" I asserted, holding him so tightly to his neck.
"You want to kill me now because of your wife?" He scoffed, taking his eyes off mine for a split second.
"What happened to My wife,Albert. I won't ask again, you know. And trust me, when I get angry.. I tend to destroy so many things!" I threatened, gritting my teeth in grief.
He paused for a second, staring into my eyes. I wasn't sure why I felt this tension looking at Albert.
But one thing I was sure of was that Abby wasn't fine.
"Speak to me!!" I demanded through my gritted teeth as I drew him closer to my frightened face.
"She lost the baby, Alex.. Abby lost your child as she tried to survive." he finally divulged, making me even more scared.
"What? A miscarriage?" I exclaimed deeply but in pain hearing what Abby had gone through.
Miscarriage wasn't something anyone would joke with. It was a big deal and could kill too.
"We tried to save the baby..but it just wasn't possible!" Albert explained further, making me lose my grip on his shirt.
Tears welled up in my eyes like a lady as I just couldn't believe what one shot did to Abby.
I was still trying to get my head together and figure a way out when suddenly, Albert's door was forcefully pushed from outside by one of his nurses.
"Sir.. we have a problem with Abby Wilson!!" She panted as she forced her words out of her lips in fear.
