An Affair With My Ex -
Chapter 83
Alex's
POV.
"What did you just say? What did she do?" I questioned with squinted eyes and my attention all focused on Doctor Albert to understand him better.
"She lost the baby, Alex and I'm sorry about that. We tried to save her child but there was nothing we could do to keep her and the baby alive at the same time." Doctor Albert Narrated briefly, making me tear up the second I heard the information clearly from his lips. I blinked countless times as I tried concealing the tears that had threatened to roll down my cheeks.
I darted my gaze from him for a second before turning back to him in disappointment about what I heard him say to me.
"So Abby is no longer with a child? I mean..." I sobbed silently as I shut my eyes for a minute.
"It was for the best, Alex." He started with a tap on my shoulder.
"You know, It was a game of survival, Alex. It was either she lived and the child died or the other way around. You weren't awake to make such decisions and we needed to save either the mother or the child."
"And... Abby was the one I Decided to save. It was going to be useless having a child without a mother!" He added calmly as he shook his head in regrets of what had happened.
I could see how sincere he was as he spoke to me but that didn't mean I wasn't mad that I couldn't have my own child because of Jack's silly revenge actions.
It wasn't easy to have a child and now, she had lost the baby. How would she feel when she wakes up to the realisation that she only has Jayden? And that her long awaited little kitty wasn't going to be in her arms anymore? I thought to myself briskly.
I was still trying to hold in the anger I felt concerning the news that had been told to me and probably try to move on with my life when suddenly, Albert's door was pushed open, forcefully from outside his office.
"What the hell is wrong with you?" He bellowed seeing how scared we both were at such actions.
A nurse had run into his office with her hands placed on her legs as a wedge to avoid falling to the ground and her face baptised with sweats as she kept on panting and gasping for air.
It was obvious that she had run all the way to Albert's office from only God knows where.
"Are you that deaf now?" Albert ridiculed, seeing how she had kept on panting without saying a word to him.
I noticed she had kept on looking at me and it made me realise one thing. 'She doesn't need me here'.
"I could excuse you if you wish to talk to him alone!" I suggested calmly as I was going to give them a bit of privacy but then, She held me back.
She wasn't willing to let go of my dress either.
"Is something wrong?" Albert interrogated again seeing how she had stopped me but kept shut without uttering any meaningful word.
"It's Abby Sir... Abby Wilson, she's in trouble!!" She finally emitted, making my eyes bulge and my heart race.
"My wife!?" I yelled and without knowing what had happened to her, I ran out of Albert's office and headed for Abby's room.
But getting to the hallway which had so many doors, I wasn't just sure of the room she was in.
I was perplexed about my next move. I wondered if I was to go to the right doors or the left doors in the hallway.
"Fuck!! I should have asked about her room number. How do I locate it now?" My eyes went all over the place in search of Abby like I had magical powers.
Panting and panicking that by mistake, Abby was going to die, Albert instantly ran past me and they headed for the last door by the right in the hallway.
I followed suit so I could see my wife and make her stay calm but getting to the door, I was astounded by the crowd I had seen in her room.
I took two steps closer to her bed and I couldn't help but bleed on the inside.
"What's up with this ..." I was going to say crowd but ended up standing at a spot in silence.
The sight of Abby laying down on her bed Unconsciously with about five nurses surrounding her and the doctor trying to revive her, made me feel scared for a split second. I suddenly felt a tear roll down my cheek at the sight of my wife. I couldn't move an inch at such a pitiful sight, not even my finger could be lifted and that was as a result of the love I felt for her.
"Abby... Abby I'm sorry I couldn't protect you right before his eyes. I'm sorry I couldn't stop him from pulling the trigger!" I cried softly as I stayed still, looking at them all.
Two nurses were in charge of serving the doctor and other nurses and yet, Abby laid on her bed jerking with her eyes closed and her mouth pursed.
I wasn't opportuned to see her face clearly because they surrounded her but the few parts of her body I saw, I was sure she was still struggling to live, to be alive for me.
I would have been the one to get shot by Jack's bullet but no, she fucking took the bullet for me and this was what she was going through.
Slowly, I walked into the room as they tried saving her life. I still couldn't believe that Abby was going to die this way though.
I needed to make her stay alive, I needed to make her know that she still had Jayden and I to take care of.
The second I took the third step into the room, I caught Albert's attention which made him come closer to me.
"What the hell do you think you are trying to do here, Alex? You shouldn't be here and you know that right?" His tone sounded like a waving or faded voice in the woods to me. He placed his hands on my chest as he tried pushing me away but I just wasn't focused on him.
My eyes, which were all moist as they teared up, were fixed on Abby alone and not him. I wasn't even sure how he was pushing me away until I felt a sharp pain on my cheek.
I didn't react like usual, I just had my hand placed on my cheek And turned to Albert.
"You slapped me because I wish to see my wife?" I sniffled as I shut my eyes briefly before opening them.
"You are family, Alex and family shouldn't be here. We would have taken her to the emergency unit but that would have made us lose her.!" Albert explained with a worried look on his face. The fact he was worried too made me realise that I just wasn't walking Alone in this path.
"You need to leave, Alex!" He was going to push me away again but then, I stopped him by taking his hand off my chest.
"What has gotten into you??" He yelled as his countenance changed to an angry man.
"Is it a crime to help her survive? Is it a crime to watch her struggle for her life?" I growled back not minding anymore if Abby was dying.
"I'm sorry to have yelled at your Sir.. but you should wait outside!!" Albert uttered in a calm voice as he tried his best to make me stay out but that wasn't going to work.
"I'm here to..." I was going to say when the unexpected and worse suddenly happened.
"Aaaahhhhh!!!" Abby shrieked in pain as her voice echoed in the room without blockage.
It was so loud that I thought she was about to turn into something else, something hideous like a werewolf.
"Sir we are losing her!!" A nurse announced which triggered me immediately.
"Losing her?" I mumbled as I tried forcing myself to go closer to her.
"Abby; Abby I'm here...." I screamed with my face turning red and Albert trying to push me out of his room.
"Leave now!!"
He used his muscles this time to send me out of the room seeing how weak I was and immediately, he had the door locked so I couldn't come into the room again.
I banged on the door recklessly and wished for it to open but nothing was working.
"Abby I'm here!! Abby!! Can you hear me Abby??" I kept on banging the door so hard as I screamed and prayed she heard my voice.
Hers was so loud as she shrieked continuously. I wasn't sure what was happening to her but I just prayed it wasn't something so serious for her to die instantly. "Abby!!!" I cried out like a child as I rested on the door with my heart throbbing in horror.
