Anything For You -
Chapter 185
"I know. But you did change. How should I address you? With this new name or with the old one?" Evanora asked Dankein, her gaze lingering over his face longer than the usual trying to search his expressions.
"By the way, I prefer the old one." She answered her question and chuckled.
"But I am not the same." Dankein forced the words reminiscing the old version of his being that he had let go a long time ago. It had been centuries now.
"Yes, you are, Valor." She interjected and saw his expressions getting paled. The witch. Dankein reminded himself of her true character. She liked to poke always. She was still doing the same. But his priorities never changed and reading her face, Dankein understood that neither did hers.
"But we must hurry. We are already extremely late." Evanora said and Dankein looked at her changing facial expressions from the corner of his eyes. Always on the go. Evanora's eyes rose and she peered at the moon, half its actual size but different in color. She was darted at it as if her every action was controlled by the size.
"It's Semilunar Eclipse of the Witch today. I can make a weapon only today. But the weapon won't be prepared in just one day. It will take many days, Valor. And we can't possibly wait for the next Semilunar Eclipse of the Witch which is after three months." She suggested and he felt as if she was talking gibberish, for he understood nothing. What Semilunar Eclipse of the witch! What weapon? What was she thinking!
"If you want that girl by your side for eternity, you have to go for a war." She muttered breaking off the closure between them, which anyone could misunderstand them for lovers from. He scrunched his eyebrows. He had a reason for waging a war against werewolves and they won't hesitate to do that either. Now was even more perfect when his man, Silvan decided to use his brain and abducted the Empress of Werewolves, who was now held captive in his castle in the Siesta Valley and who was being searched in every corner of the world by werewolves.
"War!" His face contorted. She grinned. "Do you have any better ideas? If Scarlet can be with you leaving Emerald, which I have strong doubts she would ever, then the war is preventable." Evanora said. It was the truth. Dankein had sniffed Emerald's scent over her skin and around her. She seemed happier carrying it.
"She loves him." He muttered with a pained face. How bad he yearned for her all these years. She had always been the push behind his life, and he hoped behind his death too. "So do you." Evanora blurted. "Don't you want to try at least?" She asked him to apply the cream over her face from the nearby mirror's last drawer.
"Try what? Winning her heart! Flirting with her! It won't work. I am her professor, Evanora." Dankein said with a sigh slumping his shoulders. He always felt taken over when it came to Scarlet. She still had that effect on his persona.
"Then war is one inevitable. It's a matter of some time before the wolves locate Old Empress and then your motives. I wonder Emerald must have known about your little trip to Scarlet's University by now. And he would dig deeper, and deeper, and deeper until he finds the truth. Then? An attack. Swoosh. A war." Evanora predicted the outcomes of everything moving closer to Dankein step by step when she touched his shoulders again and straightened him.
"I know," Dankein murmured. Evanora looked through his eyes and took a few steps back. Strange predicament lingered over her face as if she had realized something non-realizable.
"Don't tell me the Wolf marked her?" Her voice wavering. A bit. This was getting difficult. She didn't think about the outcome.
Dankein denied and she sighed. Relieved. Relaxed. "But he is all over her. She loves him. She f*****g loves him, Evanora." Dankein snarled, eyes furious and lips quivering. Effect of his rage.
"Hadn't she always?" Evanora perched. Smiled. Too composed for a personality like hers. Then she continued," If she isn't yet marked then we have lesser worries. If he marked her...I am afraid it will be complicated to win over. Together, they hold immense power. Even I would be of no match."
He understood what she was trying to say. Seven lives, seven damn reincarnations. Every time was more powerful than the previous time and this time...well, nobody knew anything much. Not even they.
Evanora's gaze turned to the first pot. It was still shining. It had the fairy dust from Scarlet's previous life. Evanora's eyes gleamed.
"But how?" Dankein asked. "I wasn't there with her in all the four lives. I don't even know where she was born, what she had been, who she had been? How am I supposed to..." His words made sense to him only, not to the witch he was friends with. Evanora turned to face him. Darkness was dripping from her eyes.
"Then find it, Valor. I don't have many days before I will go back to that musty, dirty, smelly, dark hole of a coffin. But this time, you will accompany me too." Evanora warned him. He knew who she was and what she could do. But he wasn't the same weak banned fairy. He was a king. He earned this. He worked harder for this.
Facing Evanora with the same determined look in his eyes, his hands went to her throat, finger curled around her throat.
"You are just a woman right now. Your powers are rusty. You are rusty, Evanora. But I am not. Don't threaten me, ever, ever again. You know who I am. Don't you?" He asked her, eyes boring deep into her soul. For a moment, Evanora witnessed the real Valor. No. He wasn't Valor anymore. He was Dankein. Dankein Cosh; the king of Dream-Catchers. The one who held Grand Empress captive. The one who stole mermaid skin from Scarlet without getting noticed. The one who had Dark souls working for him.
Evanora flinched. For the first time in her life. She had never been afraid of anyone. But this man was not someone she could mess with. At least, not right now when she indeed was rusty.
Dankein let go of her throat, loosened the grip over her neck, and retreated to his initial place. He chuckled. Evanora closed her eyes and then opened them to suggest,
"Find the Heavenly Book."
