Natalia:

Blake and I walked down the stairs, going back to see the family.

My eyes widened in surprise when I saw that my grandfather was sitting in the living room. The man smiled, standing up and walking toward me. He extended his hand to me, shaking my hand.

“I’m sorry, I thought you left”

“I was going to, but judging by the fact that I saw Crystal being upset; I figured that staying a while longer would be a lot better than leaving. Plus, the two of us are going to need to talk”

“We have nothing to talk about, at least, nothing that I want to know of” I said, glaring at the man. I knew that I needed to train with him, and I knew that me building up as much as power would end up killing me. But the idea of training with a man who has been kept hidden from me throughout my whole life annoyed me, and the fact that he knew of my existence and never bothered trying to approach was something that I couldn’t miss either.

“You are angry with me”

“I don’t know or care about you to be angry with you” I said coldly. Blake who was by my side, cleared his throat, stopping me. I looked up at him and saw him shaking his head, reminding me not to cross any unnecessary limits.

“The man is still your grandfather, baby girl” he said in my head.

“You don’t need to remind me of that” I answered back, turning to face the man. My grandfather smiled at the two of us, clearly understanding that we were using telepathy to talk to one another. I looked down at my feet, debating whether or not to trust him before nodding, crossing my arms over my chest.

“What do you want from me?”

“I believe that it is you who came to me in the first place” he said, raising an eyebrow.

“You know that I only came because otherwise, I would have died due to excess power” I answered “you gave me the solution with no answers to explain anything…”

“You didn’t ask them” he said stopping me “and that is exactly why I came here, to answer all the questions that you have”

I glared at the man who sighed, walking toward me. I took a step back, moving away from beside my husband, and sensing my annoyance; Blake growled in warning. The man took a step back, taking the message from my husband without objecting “it is not my fault that you were in that house, Natalia. I had no way of bringing you if I wanted to. Your parents didn’t let me, and the idea of them accepting that you were an element manipulator was something close to impossible. They hid you from the world, they didn’t want anyone to find you, and yet, they hated having you around when your siblings grew older. But everything they did was to protect you, they didn’t want you getting on the dark side”

“What dark side, what nonsense are you talking about? If they knew that you wanted to take me, they would have given me to you the second they could. These people sent me a bride without checking on me once, they didn’t even bother questioning who I was marrying. Yes, I love Blake, with all my heart I cannot deny that, but I will not deny that I was alone when marrying him. I dealt with everything on my own, from school work, to my company, to my marriage which started out as a wreck” I snapped. My chest ached as I spoke the words, worrying about my husband’s feelings. But he surprised me when he took a step toward me, wrapping his arm around me, pulling me to his side, wanting to calm me down.

“You could ask them if you want, you can ask your father why he no longer has his powers, why your siblings are normal humans, why you’re the one person whose been chosen. You can go and ask him, see if he gives you a proper answer, but believe me, he won’t. Neither he, or your mother would give you ONE logical answer, because generally speaking, if I wanted to speak of logic, neither one of us would exist” he said looking at Blake and I.

“Why? What is his reason?” I asked, knowing that he was right. Mum and dad wouldn’t give me an answer if it cost them their lives. They wouldn’t care about me knowing who I was, they didn’t even care about me growing stronger, in fact, all they wanted was for me to get married and get out of their lives. How it happened, when, and where it happened, they didn’t care. They saw money, and they chased after it.

“Would you be willing to listen, or are you going to start accusing me of lying when I spoke?” He asked. I looked down at my feet, avoiding his eyes as I feared the truth that was to come. I didn’t know what he was going to say, and I didn’t know what to expect. One thing that I did pick up, my dad did have powers. How he lost them, when, and why. All these questions kept running through my mind as I processed the man’s words.

Blake nudged me with his shoulder, catching my attention. I looked at him, his eyes meeting mine before he nodded, knowing that it was going to be for the best for me. Me knowing whatever happened might break me, yes, but I wouldn’t be living oblivious whenever I thought of my parents, wondered who I was, or asked about the facts.

“I will be willing to listen” I said looking him in the eye. I ran my hands over my arm, warming it as goosebumps rose over my skin. Blake nodded at the couches behind my grandfather. He turned around and walked toward the single’s couch, sitting down as he watched me and Blake take a seat on the love chair. Blake wrapped his arm around me, pulling me closer to him, knowing that I would be needing his moral support. His eyes met mine and he nodded, encouraging me.

“So, where do you want me to start?” He asked.

“The very beginning would be a good place to start” I said, waiting for him to begin.

“Your father, just like me and your grandmother was an element manipulator. He trained, he learned, and he had his dragon too. He was ambitious, strong too, I have to admit, he was a lot stronger than even I was. He knew what he wanted, and it was the ultimate power, he wanted my place, and I was more than willing to give it to him when I retired. I knew that no man could take my place but him anyway” he said looking me in the eye “then he met your mother…”

“The woman was human, and I’m not even sure where he saw her, or where he met her. But the man fell head over heels for her, and I couldn’t blame him. She was a fine woman, charming with her words, and she had the brain to get what she wanted” I had to fight back a laugh at that. Knowing my mother, I knew that she could get what she wanted when she wanted it. But I never expected that dad would have left everything for her sake “he came to me one day telling me that he married her. He didn’t tell me when it happened, but when I saw him, the woman was already pregnant with you. At that time, his dragon had mated for the first time, and his mate had its first hatchling”

“I gave him a choice back then, one that I regret until today. Either her or his powers, and he knew what he had to do to lose his powers without dying” he said, avoiding my eyes “he chose your mother…”

The man stayed quiet for a few seconds, keeping his eyes on the ground where Crystal slowly walked toward me. I looked at the dragon whose eyes stared at him with wide eyes “and to lose his powers, he left the hall, not thinking about it and walked toward his dragon and froze it…”

“What?” I asked, my heart dropping to my stomach “and you just allowed him to do it?”

“I couldn’t have stopped him if I wanted to. He made his choice knowing that killing his dragon would have killed him, he just chose to freeze him, creating ice in his own heart…”

“And you find that normal to explain?” I asked, frowning in confusion “your son, you gave your bloody son, the choice between his child and wife…”

“He shouldn’t have married her in the first place. He knew what he signed up for…”

“You married the woman that you loved, why couldn’t he?”

“Because I was forced to kill her for my position, that is why, Natalia…”
