Arielle's

POV

It's been three days since the Van Tyson's brothers led by Loki, signed off on my banishment and today was the day I was going to leave the pack for good and never return. And to serve as punishment for what I cost them, I was going to leave without my son, Ethan- Blake. I tried to argue my case, it would be folly to let a child as young as that be without its mother but my pleas fell on deaf ears. My banishment had been signed and I was going to leave without anything.

He was first a Van Tyson before he was anything else and that was the end of the discussion, they wouldn't give me the time to speak any further and there was no one to help plead my case.

I couldn't ask anything of Jana for fear of her being used to set an example for the others who would dare go against the leaders of the pack.

So here I was on the verge of losing my son who was the only thing I had left in this world after I lost Ethan and his pack that had welcomed me with open arms but I ended up ruining everything because of my quest for revenge and it seemed like I had done the same thing again, this time with my son.

Maybe Loki was right after all, I let my desire for revenge get the best of me twice and both times I lost something dear to me.

Jana promised me that she'd look after Ethan while I was gone and I couldn't have been any more grateful for all the help she's rendered to me all the times we've been together.

It had been difficult to part from Ethan while I dropped him off with Jana. I had never felt so heartbroken before but I had no other choice than to do this. If I remained here, I would be executed at first light the next day. The Van Tyson's had no use for me any longer, they wouldn't hesitate to put an end to all the troubles I've caused them.

I was on my way to my room to pack up the rest of the few things I was allowed to take with me this time around when I decided to give it another shot.

I didn't know what I wanted to say in particular or how I would get the words out but I wanted to give it one more try. The possibility of potentially never having to see my son for the rest of my life was gut-wrenching.

A small part of me wished I could take it back but the way I saw them break down in front of me when I shattered their dreams still gave me satisfactory relief.

I made my way to their study, it was barely past noon, and from memory, I knew they would be there at this time. They were hardly ever separated and it would do me a whole lot of good to confront three of them at the same time.

Just as I raised my hand to know, I heard voices from inside. There was no one else in the hallway, it was a restricted area so it wasn't unusual to find it empty. I leaned against the door trying to eavesdrop on the people talking inside.

"It hurts me to say this but the three of you have brought nothing but shame to me, to our name, and the entire pack."

The voice was all too familiar for me to figure out immediately. Alpha Xavier has never been here before, I never saw him leave his quarters during my first stay here and on my return. If he was here now, it meant there was something big happening. "Forgive us, Father. We didn't consider all possible lines of action."

It was Loki speaking this time, he always acted as the spokesperson for his brother and I've always believed it was since he was the eldest of them all.

"We underestimated her greatly and we have paid dearly for it."

My breath hitched in my throat. They were talking about me.

"You had a simple task and you failed me. This isn't the first time that this has happened nor is it the second but what did I do?" Xavier roared, slamming his fist into the table not minding the fact that he was ill and he needed to take causation. "I gave you fools chance after chance, hoping that you would eventually make me proud as I've always deserved to be but my efforts came to naught."

"Father, I don't-"

"Shut the hell up, boy." Xavier cut his first son short. "I'm tired of your excuses. It's still the same repetitive nonsense you're about to spew out."

"Things will be different next time, I promise you."

Jonathan spoke this time. I still wasn't able to piece together whatever it was they were talking about, it wasn't properly detailed yet or it didn't fully involve me like I thought it did right from the start.

"I remember the first time you three came prancing into my study to announce that you had finally gotten a mate after a few years of searching for the one that would be next Luna of this pack. At first, I was happy that my lineage would continue long after I was gone, but when I realized who your supposed Luna was, I was skeptical about her ancestry, she wasn't an elite and I had to be sure you three weren't making a mistake or anything like that. A quick search had revealed who she was and I was enraged to find out who she was and I waited for the right moment to carry out my plans putting my trust in my sons, hoping they would make me proud but what did I get in return?"

It was finally starting to make sense to me. Slowly but surely, I was starting to piece together the discussion they were having while hoping someone didn't catch me snooping at the same time.

"We did everything you wanted, Father." Loki began, he was starting to feel the anger building up inside of him. He was tired of bottling up his emotions and he had to let it all out here and now. "When we brought Arielle home with us for the first time, you pretended to welcome her into the family, and little did we know that it was all a lie, a ruse to get her in so you could carry out whatever sinister plan you had against her. For months, we begged you to be lenient, we were willing to do anything else you wanted, anything you could name if you would spare her but it all fell on deaf ears. You wanted your pound of flesh from Arielle at all cost and you finally found a way to get it when Mother fell sick."

"You boys wouldn't understand why I did what I did but I meant to push you further, that was all I ever wanted."

"You threatened you with the possibility of harming our mother who was your wife and mate when she fell sick and was weak to protect herself if we didn't do what you wanted with Arielle. She was our mate but you wanted us to play her for a fool, to string her along for as long as you wanted and we didn't have any choice but to do as you demanded to save her from dying in your hands. And when it came right down to when we thought it was all over since mother was getting better and you had nothing to threaten us with any longer, you told us to break her heart or we lost everything we worked for after we watched her die by your hands. Left with no other option we had to set Arielle free from your grip and set ourselves free as well. We planned a wedding and when the day of the wedding came, we came up with some poor lies about Arielle's infidelity and we used it as an avenue to grant you what you've always wanted. Seeing her broken and in pain."

I struggled to breathe properly, I couldn't believe what I had just heard. I always thought the Van Tyson's had sent me packing out of their own volition, I thought I was nothing more than a joke, a plaything to have fun with and dump whenever they got bored but I now knew better.

I tried to picture their faces when I had been banished for the first time, neither of them had been willing to look me in the eye and I thought it was because they resented me so much that they wouldn't do me the honor of staring at me one last time but I now knew the truth. It was out of guilt, it was why they couldn't afford to stare at me and pass judgment I didn't deserve.

"Everything I've ever done has been for a reason. If you decide to listen to me, I'll tell you why I decided to punish Arielle."

I choked back a sob and wiped my eyes with the back of my hand. I couldn't leave yet, I had to hear this, I had to figure out the truth, only then would I be content.
