Avenging The Triplet Alphas -
Chapter 58
Loki's POV
It's been 72 hours since my father went into a meeting with the Council and very soon, they would reveal their verdict. Every wolf in the pack was waiting to hear who would succeed Alpha Xavier as Alpha.
It was becoming clearer that his father couldn't lead the pack any much longer as his health was becoming even more unpredictable. He would be hale and hearty one minute and the next, he would be on the brink of death. It was expected that whoever was named as Alpha, be it my brothers and I or Bets Klaus, it would be expected that they resumed leadership within a fortnight.
While I waited for the Council to end their meeting and give their verdict, I couldn't help but reminisce about the conversation we had with Arielle on the night when she was meant to the banished.
I heard a knock on the door and I turned towards Loki and Elijah.
"Are you expecting a visitor?" I asked. "I stressed the importance of not wanting to be disturbed by anyone."
"There's no one coming to see us," Elijah replied. "Whoever is out there is doing that out of their own will."
I nodded and in a couple of long strides, I reached the door and threw it open, ready to make the life of whoever was on the opposite side very difficult for breaking the rules which I repeatedly passed. "I warned everyone not-"
The words died in my throat as my eyes upon Arielle standing sheepishly outside the door. My irritation instantly changed to one of contempt.
She was supposed to be gone by now, that was the verdict that was passed on to her or did she think we weren't going to do as we promised if she didn't leave?
"What the heck do you want from any of us?" I roared, forcing her to step back a little. "You have an hour or less to leave this pack or you would be made to face the consequences."
"I know neither of you likes me right now and if you had your way, I would've been dead already."
I watched on as Arielle began, her voice shaking slightly.
"If you knew this, why didn't you come here?"
"I need to speak with the three of you before I leave."
I hesitated, thinking about the possible things she might have to say but given as I came up with nothing, I believed it would not harm shearing whatever it was she had to say. "Come in," I held the door open a little wider.
The irritation and anger on the faces of Jonathan and Elijah were the same as mine, we loathed the very sight of her being in the same room as us.
"What the hell did you just do, Loki?" Jonathan asked me, his tone held a little bit of anger and I didn't fault him for that in the slightest.
"She has something to say, when she's done I would personally take her out of this room and if she doesn't leave before the appointed time, she would face the consequences." I tried to make my brothers see why I had allowed her in. They both nodded in unison and we waited for Arielle to speak and she took our silence as her cue to do so.

"I know this might get you a lot angry with me but while I left our son with Jana, I was on my way to your study to plead with you to let me take him with me or have him for a couple of months in a year but I overheard you three talking with your father when I got to the door and I learned the truth about your actions towards me. It wasn't out of your own volition and if things had been in your control, we would've been married a long time ago I felt bad for having ruined your chances at becoming Alpha, so I came here to offer my sincere apologies, and also offer my help in making sure that you three reclaim your birthright."
And true to her words, she's been a great help in our attempt to gain back the throne by all means possible. We were fighting a losing war, the Beta was gaining a lot more prominence amongst the common people and it was a huge disadvantage for us. We commanded a great deal of respect amongst the common people as well but with each statistic recorded, we were losing a lot more followers than we were gaining. There wasn't any fix for that, their reputation had been soiled by several factors starting over a year ago and Nia's outburst had been the final nail in the coffin.
I looked at Jonathan and Elijah who were standing on either side of me, their faces blank as they both stared straight ahead, waiting for the door to open.
I could tell they were worried, the belief we had in ourselves had taken a hit, and a big dent in our reputations was the major cause of our worries.
Arielle had opted out of being here alongside us, she knew she wouldn't be welcomed and instead of having to face some backlash or a rude comment, she decided to spend the day with our son and Jana.
The idea of an internal war had come to mind but if they went down this route, there would be little nothing left for whoever survived to rule over.
It was all of these things that made my father discard the idea of war. For him, the pack was placed above everything else for it would continue long after all of us were gone and our offspring ruling after us.
Out of the corner of my way, I saw Klaus make his way to the front of the line. He caught my eye and he made his way over to where we stood, a small smile playing on his lips.
"I wish you three all the luck you would need ahead of the announcement," Klaus began. "It's going to be a great day for the Van Tyson pack, I can just feel it. No matter who comes out on top today, I hope we would work together for the growth of our pack." I remained silent, giving him a small nod before I shook his outstretched him, and Jonathan and Elijah followed suit.
"If you wanted to see to the continuity of this pack, why are you in the running for Alpha?" Elijah blurted out. "You could have as well turned the other down."
"The first time I tried to reject your father of anything, I almost lost my life in the process," Klaus replied.
I opened my mouth to speak but the doors were thrown open and everything fell silent immediately. Klaus gave us a small nod as he scurried back to where he had been standing.
I returned my gaze to the council members filing out of the room in pairs.
The council was made up of the oldest wolves in the pack and the higher wolves as well, they aided the Alpha in making judgments over certain delicate matters they required more than one head to preside over. They held a lot of power and they were seen on the same pedestal as the royal family. That was how influential they were in the pack and neighboring packs as well.
Our father was the last one to step out of the room. He had a grim look on his face and while I hated jumping to conclusions, I knew that a grim face didn't hold much positive news but my father was that sort of unpredictable. You could never figure out what he was thinking unless he let you in on it and so we waited.
"Good day to you all, wolves of the great Van Tyson pack," my father began, his voice booming around the room as everyone's eyes were fixed on him. "I'm certain that we all know why we're gathered here today and without wasting any much time, I'd like to get down into business. My succession was supposed to have been a rather easy process with minimal fuss during the handover but quite several unfortunate things happened and a lot of things were said as well, a couple of which went against our tradition. Taking all these into consideration, the crowning of my sons as my successors on that day was halted. The council decided to discuss amongst themselves who would be the more appropriate person or persons to lead this pack to even greater heights and after three long days of trying to figure out what would be best for this pack, we eventually reached a consensus. My sons, Loki, Jonathan, and Elijah have been exemplary young men and fearless in battle. Klaus on the other hand is loyal and fierce, a hard man who knew what it took to get things done."
The tension in the air was so thick, you could cut through it with a knife.
"So here comes my verdict, the successor that would take over from me once the official handover is finalized is none other than my Beta, Klaus."
