Avenging The Triplet Alphas -
Chapter 63
Arielle's
POV
The war lasted for several hours before the invaders retreated satisfied with the work and damage they had brought upon the Van Tyson pack. There were a lot of dead bodies littered on the streets, in open fields and everywhere else one could think of, I was walking on the streets, making my way to the mansion. The Van Tyson brothers had left me about three hours ago to help in the actual fight after they had succeeded in taking care of the invaders in our home. I still couldn't believe they came back for me after everything that had happened, the way they willingly rushed into the heat of the moment when they were greatly outnumbered by the opposition made me teary.
They put their lives on the line to protect mine and that of our child, it was the most selfless act I had ever been a recipient of and I didn't know how to thank them for what they had done. Saying thank you wouldn't be enough, I had to do something a lot more tangible or I would forever be in their debt till I paid this off.
A good number of the buildings had either been vandalized, torn down, or burned as I approached the mansion. I could see it from where I was now, around a hundred feet away. A part of the mansion had suffered the same damage but the majority of the building still stood, untouched.
I quickened my steps as I got a lot closer, I had to find out if the Van Tyson brothers were alive. They were my main priority right now and I would be gutted to lose either one of them after everything they had been through for my sake and that of the pack as well. I couldn't help but feel slightly guilty for what had happened here.
If I hadn't called them out, they would've been made the successors and the next Alphas of the Van Tyson pack which would've prevented this war right from the start but the revenge plan had soiled that plan and it had placed Klaus on the throne and still into the first month of his reign, he had brought destruction and death of the pack.
If anyone could salvage anything from this pack and save it from heading down this path of destruction, it was the Van Tyson brothers.
I had enough belief in their capabilities to turn this around no matter how long it might take, they were the best option for the pack right now, tradition be damned. That wasn't what they needed, Tradition hadn't stopped Klaus from picking fights with every neighboring pack neither did it stop him from picking bravery over common sense and it won't change anything presently either.
This pack desperately needed someone with merit and fortunately, they had three of those kinds of wolves. If every surviving member of the pack wanted this to work, they had to come together and agree to the terms of making them Alphas and not Klaus. If I had to kill Klaus to make the Van Tyson brothers take the throne, I would be willing to do it without hesitation but first, I had to make sure they were still alive.
I eventually got into the mansion and I was stunned at the number of bodies and dead wolves littered around, there was barely any area that wasn't covered with a dead body. I maneuvered my way through the bodies, grateful that Ethan was sleeping peacefully after the ordeal he had been through. I made my way into the mansion and began my search for either of the three of them. There were a lot of mourning faces and I understood their pain, if I had any surviving member of my family that I found dead, I would be distraught as well.
The only person I could call family was Jana and I had been praying fervently that she wouldn't be caught in the crossfire. Jana was not just her help but a sister and her best friend at the same time, Losing her would leave a great void in my heart and I wasn't sure how I would be able to deal with the loss of a loved one and I shared this same fear for the Van Tyson brothers as well, I couldn't afford to lose either one of them right now.
"Arielle!" I heard my name being called from being me and I whirled around towards the familiar voice as I saw Jana running towards me. Her face was bloodied and her entire body was blackened with her clothes torn, she had been involved in the war quite alright but she had survived much to my relief.
"Where have you been?" Jana began, briefly wrapping her arms around me before pulling away to scan my body properly for any signs of physical injuries or anything of that sort, She was in a worse state than I was but she didn't care about herself right now. My gesture made my heart melt in gratitude for having someone who placed me first in everything.
"The Van Tyson brothers were here when the war started and I feared the worst for you."
"I've been home, Jana. They came back just in the nick of time to save me and my son. If they had come a second late, I would've burned to death by now, it was that close for me and I'm lucky to be alive and standing in front of you right now."
"Thank the Moon Goddess for keeping you safe," Jana gushed. "I wouldn't have known what to do with myself if I had lost you."
I chuckled lightly. "It's not so easy to get rid of me so easily."
"I'll always need someone to nag in my ears," Jana laughed. "No one does it better than you do."
"What happened to you? Given the amount of dead wolves I've seen outside the mansion, it's a miracle I'm seeing you alive."
"I was lucky, Ms. Arielle. When I heard you were all alone in the house, I rushed out of the mansion to make my way to you but before I could make my way across the field, an explosion went out a few meters away sending me flying into unconsciousness as a brick slammed into the side of my head. I don't remember much. I can still make out a few bits from the war, the cries, the blood, and the clashing of wolves and bodies happening all at the same time. I've never seen anything like this before."
I shuddered, it wasn't something I would've wanted to see up close. I knew I was still going to get nightmares from the horrors I passed through back at our home. I had been so close to death and it was an experience I was never going to outlive, it was going to stick as a reminder of how precious life is.
"I'm glad you're alive but I need to ask you something," I began.
Jana nodded eagerly. "I'll be glad to help. Do you need anything, I can get someone to attend to you."
"No, no. That's not it at all. I just want to know where they are."
"Who might you be talking about?"
"The Van Tyson brothers, I've got to see them."
"The last time I remember seeing them was in their private wing of the mansion, that's all I can tell you. My best guess is, they should be somewhere around there and you know them better than most of us so it shouldn't be difficult for you to find them there." "Thank you, Jana." I began. "Can you take care of Ethan for a while? He's been through quite the ordeal."
"I can imagine," Jana smiled at me, taking Ethan gently from my arms. "You know where to find me when you're done."
I kissed her lightly on the cheek. "Thank you."
I walked briskly up the stairs, trying to avoid the servant running up and down the stairs. There was a lot to do to restore the mansion to a manageable level and everyone had to put their hands together to make it work.
I got to the floor where the private wing was and I made my way through the hallway. The door to one of the bedrooms was slightly ajar, I pushed it open to find it empty and untouched. I repeated the same process for all the rooms I walked past before I made my way to the study. From experience, I knew it was always unlocked but you were never to enter if you weren't granted permission especially if you weren't family. I knocked twice before I made my way inside.
The mood inside the room was a solemn one, the triplets looked to be in bad shape but it was nothing serious. They would eventually heal from the scars gotten from the war but that wasn't what kept them in this mood, I was willing to bet on that. It ran deeper than that.
"When did you arrive and where's Ethan?" Loki asked me after finally noticing my presence after I had stood by the door for a couple of minutes, but his eyes were fixed at the center of the room.
"I arrived less than an hour ago and Ethan is with Jana, he's in safe hands."
I walked forward lightly, trying to strain my neck to see what had all their attention. Like Loki, Jonathan and Elijah didn't bother to take a look at my face. Their attention was fixed at the center of the room.
"Did something happen?" I asked lightly as I continued to make my way forward. "You three have been unusually quiet and the mood here is very eerie. I was expecting some sort of relief on-"
My words hitched in my throat as I finally stood next to Loki, who still had his eyes fixed at the center of the room. I could now see what had their attention.
At the center of the room were two dead bodies covered with a cloth lying next to each other. I couldn't make out who they were but if they had the brothers in a grieving manner, they were important to them. "What's going on?" I asked no one in particular, looking between the three of them and hoping one of them would answer me. "Who's lying down there?"
The silence that ensued was a rather frustrating and lengthy one but I had to wait for someone to talk to me.
"The Alpha is dead. Klaus sustained a lot of damage to his body during the battle and while he continued to fight on, his body soon gave up and he was quickly pounced upon by the invaders and death followed thereafter." While I had no love lost for Alpha Klaus, the death of someone was a moment of self-reflection.
"I'm sorry for your loss," I replied to Loki. "You must have been close at some point in your lives."
Loki shrugged. "It's been several years since then but that is the least of my worries, I don't feel too much pain over his death."
"Who's the other person, Loki?"
"My father, our father." Loki began, his voice cracking. "They were just too much to handle at once and there was no one to come to our aid and we were dropping like flies. A good number of us wanted to retreat but Father wouldn't have any of it. If we retreated, we would be locked in the mansion and we would be easy prey to feast upon. So he wanted us to fight till our last breath. We were so close, we had come so close to forcing them back but an ambush had caught us by surprise. There was nothing we could do to save him. While we fell back to restrategize, father charged in alone to confront them and he didn't make it out alive."
My eyes widened in shock as I heard the news.
"Father is dead and so is the Alpha, It falls on my brothers and me to lead the pack from now on."
