An Unhappy Reunion

Kira sat at the edge of her father's bed, holding his hand.

Gideon stood.

Her eyes rested on her father's face, but they weren't registering anything.

Kira was still reeling from the shock.

It had taken all her strength to struggle out of Gideon's hold.

He was reluctant to let go, but acquiesced in the end.

He followed her into the ward without a word, just like he followed her home on the first day they met.

Kira felt the heat of his gaze on her back.

Gideon savoured every moment of being in the same room as her.

If he reached out a hand, he could touch her.

But he held back, content with just drinking in the view for now.

He couldn't tear his eyes away from her.

It had been close to four years since they parted.

Not a day had gone by without him missing her.

Now that he finally saw her again, he wished he could hold her in his arms forever.

However...

Gideon sensed Kira didn't share his sentiment.

There was no smile on her face when she saw him.

Just astonishment.

When he hugged her, she squirmed and tried to push him away.

He thought it was because of the nurses.

He knew how shy his Kira could be, so he released his hold on her.

But now that they were alone in the room, she was still avoiding him.

Her back was to him; her head was lowered.

She had not spoken a word since they came in.

An Unyuppy Reunion

It was as if he was a stranger.

Did she still hate him?

For sleeping with Georgina, and for leaving without saying goodbye.

Gideon sighed quietly.

He couldn't hold in his desire anymore and raised a hand, wanting to touch her.

Kira stood up abruptly.

'I need to use the restroom."

She practically ran into the ensuite bathroom and banged the door shut.

Gideon's hand fell to his side.

He scanned the room.

It was a VIP ward for sure, with a wall-mounted TV, a minibar a vase with freshly cut flowers on the bedside table and luxury linen on the bed.

It looked more like a five-star hotel room than a ward.

Helen's voice sounded in his head again.

'Kira has a sugar daddy now."

'She's the mistress of a rich man."

'She was chauffeured around in a fancy car and dined at a high-end restaurant.'

'You might be disappointed when you find her.'

Gideon did not fall for Helen's trick.

He knew the woman had always had it in for Kira, though it was hard to understand why a mother would hate her own daughter.

Helen was as spiteful as she was snobbish.

But then he got the address from Liam.

He came; he saw; he started to have doubts.

The ward was Class A1, typically reserved for dignitaries.
