It wasn't the kind of room that could be bought with just money.

Gideon had seen enough over the past two days to form a conclusion: it wasn't the kind of room that Kira could afford. An unhappy Reunio

She was a university student.

Even if she'd won the lottery, she still lacked the connections to get her father in here.

Gideon hated to think that Helen might have been telling the truth.

Could Kira have gone down the wrong path?

Gideon cast his eyes to the closed bathroom door, his fists clenched.

Kira stared at her face in the mirror.

Her eyes were red and puffy.

Her face was pale.

She was a mess.

Kira turned on the tap and splashed cold water on her face.

She placed her hand on her belly, breathed in through her nose, then breathed out.

She repeated the breathing exercise until some clarity returned to her mind.

Kira straightened her back and squared her shoulders.

She couldn't hide in the bathroom forever.

She wasn't ready to face Gideon yet, but she just had to take it as it came.

Kira took another deep breath and dried her face with a paper towel.

She patted her cheeks.

As soon as she pushed the door open, she rammed headlong into a solid wall of muscles.

Kira hit her nose and staggered back.

She lost her balance; her arms flailed.

She was about to fall when an arm shot out in time to steady her.

'Watch out!'

Gideon pulled her in, arms wrapped around her waist.

He couldn't help but take a sniff of her hair, intoxicated by her scent.

Kira bumped her forehead against his chest.

Gideon had changed.

His features had matured from those of a rakish boy band member to those of a man.

Physically, he was stronger and sturdier, no longer the lanky teen who always seemed to Andoappy Reumari

Kira inhaled the warm mint of his cologne.

It reminded her of Austyn.

Kira struggled out of Gideon's arms, pressing a hand against the wall.

Her eyes were downcast.

'I'm fine. Thank you.

Gideon stared at her.

Her long lashes were trembling.

He wanted to draw her back in, but he was afraid of scaring her.

His eyes burned.

His entire body ached with a throbbing soreness.

It was like dangling a bag of cocaine in front of an addict's eyes; every fibre of his being screamed out at wanting her.
