Kayleigh started walking away, heading for a side door.

She knew Hewitt would follow her.

Kira hesitated for a moment.

The banquet hall was filled with people.

This was a public venue.

Kayleigh was a public figure.

Without her burly bodyguard by her side, she probably couldn't do much damage.

Kira chased after the actress.

Gwen observed the exchange from some distance away.

She couldn't see the person Kira was talking to, but the look on Kira's face caught her

attention.

Then Kira left with that person.

They were heading towards a door leading out of the banquet hall.

Gwen didn't catch the entire conversation, but she heard one word distinctly-married.'

She thought about Gideon.

What would he think if he found out his beloved was already with someone else?

She followed the duo at a distance.

Kira was getting impatient.

Kayleigh just kept on walking, turning this way and that.

They were no longer in the banquet hall.

Instead, Kira found herself in a dimly lit passageway probably meant for service personnel.

'When I was about your age, Austyn spoiled me rotten.' Kayleigh had a faraway look in her eyes. 'He gave me everything I asked for. He gave me a good life, a good career, and most importantly, he gave me his love."

She smiled wistfully. 'I was the luckiest woman in the entire world. Oh, how the others envied me. They coveted what I had. But I knew they couldn't take it away from me. They couldn't take Austyn away from me. I was going to marry him and we'd live happily ever after. Kayleigh halted.

Her smile evaporated. 'But you! You're just a nobody. You came out of nowhere and moved into Austyn's house. YOU became Mrs McCarthy!!

Kira listened with a blank face.

She should have expected this.

Kayleigh didn't know the answer.

She just used it to lure Kira out so she could get her alone and vent.

Her face was distorted with hatred.

If her fans saw her now, they probably wouldn't recognise her.

Kayleigh pointed a finger at Kira's nose. 'Do you think Austyn married you because he lovest you?'

Her shrill laughter reverberated in the narrow hallway.

'Don't be stupid! He only loves Deborah Connelly!'

Deborah was the man's first and only true love.

Kayleigh wasn't jealous of Deborah.

The woman was dead and therefore no threat to her.

But Kira Hewitt was alive.

Hewitt usurped the title of Mrs McCarthy.

Kayleigh refused to accept that.

She had waited for Austyn for years.

How dare Hewitt snatch him away!

'You're nothing but a toy.' Kayleigh's eyes glinted with malicious glee. 'A plaything for

Austyn. Once he gets bored of you, he'll dump you in the blink of an eye. I can't wait for the day that happens! You're going to lose everything, just like me!' 'You're wrong.' Kira shook her head. 'Even if I lose everything, I'll never be like you."

She had nothing to begin with.

If Austyn dumped her one day, she'd just be right back where she started.

Which was fine with her.

Kira said, 'You love him, so losing him feels like losing the whole world to you. But I don't, so losing him is not going to kill me.'

Kira turned around to leave.

Kayleigh had no useful information to offer.

All she wanted to do was to rant and get a rise out of Kira.
