Bedmates Soulmates -
CHAPTER 387
'What's
wrong?
Kira tried lifting her right foot and felt another stab of pain.
She must have sprained her ankle just now,
She'd worn a pair of two-inch heels for work today.
Bad call..
Kira shifted her weight onto her left foot
She could hop
All of a sudden, however, she found herself airborne.
Gideon placed one arm around her back and the other around the bend in her knees.
He lifted her and carried her in his arms
"What are you doing? Kira was shocked and a little offended.
She squirmed. 'Let me down!
Don't move.
'Gideon, put me down this instant!

He's Not Worth Your Tears
Gideon didn't listen.
He carried her to the two-seat
tsofa and then set her down gently
'You shouldn't walk with a sprained ankle. Do you brother.
Thou want to end up a crippl

Kira sucked in a deep breath.
"That's none of your business!" she wanted to say, but didn't.
Gideon crouched in front of her.
He lifted her right foot and put it over
his knee.
"What are you doing? Kira tried to pull her leg back.
'I said, don't move!"
Gideon ran a hand along her right ankle. 'Does it hurt here??
He pressed lightly on the spot.
Kira winced.
Gideon examined it. 'No swelling yet. But I should get you an ice pack. They probably have it at the nurses' station." He stood up.
'Stay here. Don't move. I'll be right back.
Kira didn't reply.
Gideon paused at the threshold, turned back to look at her, but in the end, said nothing and walked out.
Kira didn't look up until she beard the door shut.
There was some pain and tenderness at the ankle, but she no longer noticed.
Memories of the past came rushing back, pounding on the door, demanding to be let in.
It was giving her a headache.
In another two months, it would have been exactly four years since Gideon left her.
The date was seared into her memory.
She thought it was going to be her red-letter day.
That morning, the mailman just handed her an envelope.
She was accepted into Stamford University her dream school.
And it happened on her birthday.
She read and re-read the letter, before folding it carefully and putting it back into the envelope.
Then she rushed out to find the nearest cake shop t
that was open
knew Dad was preparing a sumptuous dinner for her 18th birthday, and he probably already bought a cake.
But Dad was at work and she couldn't wait.
She splurged on a chocolate praline cake and dashed off before the shopkeeper could count out all eighteen candles. Gideon was at home. kira tiptoed into the house, hardly able to
to suppress her excitement.
She wanted to scream, to shout out the good news from the rooftops.
And she wanted Gideon to go to the same university as her.
Gideon's bedroom door was ajar.
School was over; he must be sleeping in
Kira pushed the door open
Gideon was sleeping all right.
So was Georgina.
Kira's half-sister was naked, at least from the waist up.
Ablanket was thrown carelessly over their intertwined bodies.
ng over Georgina's shoulders.
Gideon was bare chested, lying on his back with one arm thing Kira couldn't quite recall what happened next. Georgina might have stirred.
Or was it Gideon?
Kira didn't know.
When she came out of her trance, she found herself on the esplanade.
She and Gideon used to come here for an evening stroll.
She was still holding the envelope in one hand, but her other hand was cakeless.
Kira sat on a bench and cried her eyes out.
Pedestrians stopped, pointed and whispered.
She didn't notice.
When the sun went home, so did she.
Dad would be off work soon
