Billionaire's Betrayal: My Ex Beg Me To Love Him Again -
Chapter 0044
Chapter 0044
William's POV:
As I silently eavesdropped on the two doctors, I heard them drop startling words such as " gastric cancer" and "Doctor Martin". I felt a sinking feeling in my gut telling me that the patient they were referring to was none other than Caroline.
I revealed myself, stopping the two before they got away with that vital information for good. "Excuse me," "I interrupted, ignoring their confused glances. "Who are you talking about?"
A wary look sparked in one doctor's eyes and he discretely covered the clipboard in his hands. My instincts told me that it had to be Caroline's report. "Sir, we have no idea what you're talking about. May we help you?" he asked forcefully, clearly on edge. These idiots really thought they could trick me by playing dumb. Did they think I was a fool?" You better tell me what I want to know or I'll get you fired!" I demanded.
The doctor with the report tensed up greatly, an unsure look crossing over his face. In the end, he replied, "I'm sorry, sir, but we can't give out patient information. That's confidential. Now, if you'll excuse us, we'll be taking our leave."
He turned around to hurriedly head out, but I wasn't going to let him evade me that easily. I snagged him by the collar and yanked him back. His colleague dropped his clipboard in surprise, at a loss for what to do.
"What are you doing?" the colleague shouted, trying in vain to push me away. "Let him go or I'll call the police."
I easily brushed off his stupid threats. I pulled the doctor uncomfortably close, my teeth bared in anger. "Give me that report or else," I demanded.
The doctor fruitlessly continued to fight back, dropping the report in the process. I dropped him to the floor and went to snatch the papers. Finally, I was going to have my long-awaited
answers.
My fingers just barely brushed the pages before I felt someone snatch my wrist and tug me away. I looked wildly behind me, only to see Martin's smug face. Why was he always getting in the way of my business?
Anger clawed up my chest as Martin turned his attention towards the two doctors. "Go on, leave," he encouraged. He attempted to pick up the papers and hand it back to them, but I grabbed him and shoved him up against a wall before he could do so. Surprise flickered across his face, but he was quick-thinking enough to catch my punch as I threw it. Without warning, he sent a heavy blow directly to my stomach. I grunted from the sudden pain, but quickly returned the favor with a strike to Martin's cheek Martin didn't look like the type of guy who could hold his own in a fight, but I quickly found myself reevaluating my judgment of him as we exchanged blows in that hospital corridor. gave as good as he got, and I ended up with a few punches to the body and head. Martin wasn't faring much better, with a bunch of new welts now added to his face.
We continued to get at each other, both of us unrelenting as I fought for my right to see the report and Martin fought to hide it.
All the while, the two doctors watched in stunned silence. When Martin looked over and told them to run, I took that opportunity to kick him in the stomach and reach for the report. Martin doubled over and collapsed on the floor, giving me enough time to scan the report. Finally, there would be no more secrets.
With no time to read the boring details, my eyes immediately flicked down to the diagnostic result. The words "stomach cancer" had a cold sweat running down my back. Could it really be ...?
It couldn't be true. What was the patient's name? I shot my gaze towards the top of the page, right where the name was supposed to be filled out, and I found it... blank?
From behind me, Martin coughed out a laugh. I spun around in anger, gesturing to the paper wildly. "What the hell is this?" I demanded
Martin slowly stood up, a smirk lifting his lips. "Interesting, huh?" he chuckled. "Why are you so obsessed with a medical research report?"
I threw down the report in rage. "Are you kidding me?" I was absolutely furious at being denied the truth yet again..
The bruised man before me scoffed at my reaction. "Yeah? Whose name did you want to see on that paper, William? Don't tell me you still love Caroline."
Gritting my teeth, it took all in my power not to tackle him to the ground. "Of course I don't, but I want the truth," I replied, my fists clenched. "I'll find it out, just you wait. Tell Caroline not to underestimate me!"
I left him there, shoviny doctors out of the way as I stormed out. Marching outside and pulling out my phone, I quickly rang my assistant, James.
"Mr. Anderson," he immediately greeted. "What can I do for you?"
I glared at the hospital, answering through clenched teeth. "James, I'm going to need you to do something for me.
